A few short months ago, we arrived to Beautiful Camp Humphreys with little knowledge of the Army and much less our new environment. I did, however, know that ACS should have some information. My first visit consisted of information regarding additional household goods, namely, a crib for the baby. On that visit I received many smiles and a lot of information. This information precipitated my subsequent visits as I began to toy with the idea of getting back to work and/or doing volunteer work. ACS always had the information and the smiles. I know that my successful experiences here at Humphreys are a direct result of my experience with ACS. I barely scratched the surface. ACS has a wealth of programs, information, classes, etc. for US- the Soldier, the Spouse, the Family...

Sunburn - Home Treatment Home treatment measures may provide some relief from mild sunburn. -Use cool cloths on sunburned areas. -Take frequent cool showers or baths. -Apply soothing lotions that contain aloe vera to sunburned areas. Topical steroids (such as 1% hydrocortizone cream) may also help with sunburn pain and swelling. Note: Do not use cream on children younger than age 2 unless told by your doctor. A sunburn can cause a mild fever and a headache. Lie down in a cool , quiet room to relieve the headache. A headache may be caused by dehydration, so drinking fluids may help. There is little you can do to stop skin from peeling after a sunburn, it is part of he healing process, however, lotion may help relieve the itching.
"Good-byes" at the CDC It's the Army way, you have people who come and go through your life. The CDC will be losing two valuable and irreplaceable employees this month. When you go in tomorrow morning and see Amber Cupp behind the front desk give her a hearty farewell. Liz Minguela, is also leaving the first days of July, and there are quite a few tots that will miss her smiling face as well. During this PCS season we are losing a lot of our friends and coworkers, and new people come to take their place. Perhaps we should take a moment everyday to appreciate the people around us...
Father's day Luncheon at the CDC What a great way to end the week. Fathers were invited CDC for fathers day June 18. Yummy food, short tables and hugs were had at this great event. A moment to appreciate our Dads.

Summer Snacks
Parent's Date Night Friday, July 16 1830-2230 You might not even NEED a date night, things might be "peachy-keen". It is at this moment that you need to have a date night. Enjoy the good times too. Don't wait for a problem to arise before you decide, "uff we NEED a date night"... Thanks to the Army Family Covenant, once a quarter, parents can enjoy a Date Night with child care being FREE of charge at the CDC. All children must be registered with Child, Youth and School Services to participate. Make reservations @ 753-8601 before the July 12 deadline.
It's hot, who wants to be cooking? Try this fun and healthy snack (it's easy too).
Edible Hangman
You'll need: Crackers Squirtable Cheese or similar condiment Celery Cherry Tomatoes Carrots Bell Peppers Mini Marshmallows or raisins Toothpicks / Pretzel Sticks How to: This is just like the classic game of Hang-man but delicious. Kids can write their letter guesses on the crackers. Veggies are transformed piece by piece into our Hang-man OR make shapes or even great constructions with crackers, veggies, etc...
HAVE FUN Safety Tips and Activities
It's getting bright and hot outside... Sunscreen is essential. In this case, an ounce of prevention is worth a Pound of Cure. A first application of sunscreen should be applied to your child before coming to the
CDC. We Love to play
outside and our staff will be sure to apply a second or sometimes even a third layer.
Lets work together and keep our children Sunburn FREE. Sunglasses are also a good Idea when it comes to our children and that bright Korean Sunshine. Encourage your kids to try them out, and maybe even get them to enjoy the "Coolness Factor"
Coordinator -Bldg. 693
Tip of the month School is out but young children and older ones too, enjoy a good read! Read to you young children as often as you can, they love to hear the rhymes and rhythms. Children's books of songs are also tons of fun. Be sure to read Mother Goose rhymes often, as well as books with big bright pictures and few words. Use inflections in your voice and animate, they will LOVE it. Be patient with older kids as they sound out words, correct them without saying "no".
Enjoy some good books on those warm summer evenings CDC Director

School Age Services July Technology Tip
Wired-Fidelity, better known as Wi-Fi, is becoming more and more commonplace everywhere we go. Public restaurants, transportation terminals, theme parks are just a couple examples of places offering Wi-Fi connections. One thing to remember is that although you are using your device for connecting, the information is traveling on an unsecured path. The same is true if you setup a wireless connection in your home. If you don't secure your wireless network, others may take advantage of free internet courtesy of you. Securing a wireless network is not a difficult task and needs to be done immediately. Refer to the manufacturer's website for technical advice on securing your network. Often there are picture tutorials that will show you, step by step, how to secure your router or access point. Key security issues include changing default router password, creating a unique Security Set Identifier (SSID) and configuring encryption using Wired Equivalent Privacy (WIP) at a minimum. Be sure to use strong Passwords and keep them in a safe place! Happy Computing

A Commander who cares, Major Jo Thompson is a true leader. From the time she arrived in Korea she has been a big supporter of her soldiers. She always attends their unit intramural sports games and her soldiers say she is “our Mom, the way she takes care of us.” Following the birth of her youngest, she was joined by her husband and has actually increased the amount of things she does for her soldiers. She’s the perfect example of an Army Mom, Commander and person. God's Speed to the Thompson Family as they leave Korea this Month.
