YONGSAN 3-2-1 WEIGHTLIFTING MEET
The bar is loaded. You violently snatch, and then clean and jerk, the loaded barbell and lock it out overhead. You return it to the platform. Three attempts at each lift, as heavy as you can. This is Olympic Weightlifting.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Candlelight Vigil March and Program Sunday, 17 January, 1700, Seoul American High School Auditorium
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s strong leadership, unprecedented power of speech and moral compass changed the direction of an entire nation. His life was ended abruptly at the age of 39, but during his short-lived life, Dr. King was truly an American hero who pioneered the efforts to lead this Government back to its core values of the Constitution on which this nation was built. Although, he faced tribulations and hardships during his fight, Dr. King pressed forward in love for his fellow Americans in non-violent demonstrations to spread unity among all people. Dr. King was committed to ensure that all people are created equal became more than just a phrase written in the Constitution by our forefathers, but that all people created equal became an everyday way of life practiced by all citizens throughout this great nation. On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at the early age of 31, inspired 200,000 followers from around the nation to gather at the capitol of the United States of America, where he delivered his unforgettable speech I Have a Dream. This event set a precedent for all citizens to once again take up Dr. King’s cause to fight for their equality. As a token of appreciation, the Republic of Korea Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Mu Phi Lambda Chapter, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will be hosting the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. March on January 18, and the federal holiday observance is on January 19. This event will re-create and commemorate the historical Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Civil Rights Candlelight Vigil and March. The community is invited to gather at 1700 at the Seoul American High School Auditorium to begin the march and continue on to the Memorial Chapel, where the program will conclude with a celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. King at 1800. Deputy Commander for the United States Naval Forces Korea Captain Glen Leverette is our special guest speaker.
Ms. Marilyn Rosenborough, who is one of the event coordinators, expressed her thoughts: “As an individual, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and the March continues to allow me to hope for a better tomorrow for race relations and justice for all people. A lot of individual’s don’t understand that the holiday is not a ‘black’ holiday; it's a holiday to remember that Dr. King was a ‘drum major’ for justice for ‘ALL’ people— not just ‘black’ people. Injustice in anyway or anywhere spills over to all people. With concern of the racial unrest that exists today in America, this holiday means a great deal more this year to me because I continue to worry about the image that other countries are getting of us as Americans. Have we returned to the racial unrest of the ‘60’s and not valuing people that do not look like you. I pray not; I continue to pray for a better tomorrow for our children— all children. We have come so far but have so far to go to achieve justice for all people.” If anyone has any questions regarding this event, please contact Ms. June Wilkins or Ms. Joyce Diggs at joyce.diggs@pac.dodea.edu pr DSTJP@aol.com. Please bring penlights, flashlights and/or candles to the event. Also, volunteers are needed to help the children in this year’s walk to the Memorial Chapel. A Special Thank You to: Organizers and Participants, Girl Scouts, The Young Men of the Divine Nine Mentoring Group USAG Yongsan EEO Office and 8th Army EO Office

2016 THE YEAR OF EXPLORATION As we live day to day and converse with new and existing people in our lives, one conversation topic reoccurs: travel. Some of the common topics of travel I encounter are explored by discussing where I have been, where I am going or what place I like the most. These type of conversations never grow tiring because the great unknown and wonderful possibilities of exploring new parts of the world is extraordinary and enhances the travelers point of view. Ultimately the goal is to become a worldlier individual and great cultural understanding of our existence here on planet Earth. Asia is an amazing place and most of us have a limited timeframe for residing here in South Korea so let us assist in making your travel here in Asia a great journey of exploration and discovering the delicious, beautiful, and uniquely intrinsic Asian culture. We have made a Asia Bucketlist for you to help make your Asia experience even better. Our Asia Bucklist can be used as a guidance or outline for you to customize and make your own Asian Bucklist. Additions may include your resolutions for the New Year or personal goals. As you enjoy Asia, please make sure to give your feedback on Facebook/FMWRYongsan for USAG Yongsan FMWR to help us meet you, our customer’s expectations.
