id you know that the month of April is a dedicated month for military children? In other words, for as long as the U.S. military has been calling men and women to serve their country, there have been children raised in the military. Secretary of Defense, Casper W. Weinberger began this tradition in 1986 to acknowledge and celebrate the strong families who support their parent or parents in the military. A child of a military family is often subject to frequent moves as their parent or both parents are re-as signed and relocated. Many other families are subject to great absences of a parent as a military dispute requires deployment. In some cases a child may be missing a parent for years at a time. Families could also be affected by injury and illness upon the return of a parent, from an operation.

MONTH of the

T

he absence of a parent or a childhood spent in transit creates a unique sensibility in these children that it can be difficult to feel any sense of “hometown” and many friendships are built and lost in the process. In 2010, it was estimated that more than 1.7 million American children and youth under 18 years old with a parent serving in the military and approximately 900,000 children and youth with one or both parents deployed multiple times. Month of the military child gives the nation the opportunity to recognize the character, strength, and sacrifices of military children as well as the role they play in the U.S. military community. “Just as our troops embody the courage and character that make America’s military the finest in the world, their family members embody the resilience and generosity that make our communities strong.

ermeden, also known as ‘Spa Paradise’, is just as its name describes; it’s Spa Paradise! The spa was inspired by a German style spa resort. Back when the Romans conquered lands far beyond their own, they built spas and when they were eventually forced out, the spas remained. Most of the German style spa resorts have natural parks surrounding the area with an extensive forest, wide bade pools, sports clubs and many other facilities. In nature of this design, Incheon Termeden Spa & Resort was built, the first ever German Style Spa ever in Asia. If you should find yourself in need of complete relaxation, Incheon Termeden Spa & Resort is where you should go.

To ensure patrons gain the entire experience, the Termeden website provided a bathing order of steps to follow. Step 1: Warming Up Course This course was designed for people who feel weary. The course will reduce physical fatigue during the massage and exercises. Neck Shower (5 Minutes) => Body Massage (15 Minutes) => Dream Bath (5 Minutes) => Basher Wall (3 Minutes) => Hydro Massage (5 Minutes) => Floating (5 Minutes) => Hydro Pocket (15 Minutes) => Walking Bath (5 Minutes) Step 2: Refreshing Course The Refreshing Course is where customers can go to relieve stress by getting a body massage. Neck Shower (5 Minutes) => Body Massage (15 Minutes) => Dream Bath (5 Minutes) => Floating (5 Minutes) => Hydro Pocket (5 Minutes) => Walking Bath (5 Minutes) => Sweating Room (5 Minutes) => Relax Lining (5 Minutes) => Walking Bath (5 Minutes)

The types of bade pools available at the Termeden Spa & Resort include the body massage, floating, neck shower, relax lining, basher wall, running water pool, the dream bath, the jet bench and the hydro pocket. W

hat do you mean you don’t like sit ups? How else are you supposed to get that chizzled 6 pack without doing sit ups day in and day out? Look, I wish it was that easy, but the fact is if sit-ups were the key to that elusive flat belly, the Army wouldn’t be dealing with an obesity problem that the top brass have deemed a national security concern. So something tells me there is more to the picture than this magical exercise. This brings me to my next point, which also happens to be one of the top questions asked at Trent Gym, which pertains to the idea of spot reduction. Spot reduction is the idea of eliminating fat from one part of the body by targeting that part of the body with a certain exercise. Once again I wish it was this easy, but if you have fat in places you don’t want, targeting that area with an exercise will not eliminate the fat from that area. For example, females

typically complain about unwanted arm/ thigh fat while males typically hold their unwanted weight around their midsection. So, what do they do? Hammer away at triceps extensions, bicep curls, leg extensions, and any new “ab” exercise they saw in the latest muscle and fitness magazine and generally get frustrated with the lack of results. The number one exercise to achieve that look that so many people desire is……….PUSH AWAYS. Push the plate away from your face. There is no one exercise to get you that 6 pack, it has to be a lifestyle change that is a mix of DIET and exercise. Notice I put diet first. It is VERY hard to out train a poor diet. I think most people overestimate the exercise part, and underestimate or even fail to think about the nutrition and recovery side of things. I see this scenario often: Person A comes to the gym 5 days a week for an hour and a half each session, Person A leaves gym on said days and heads straight to Manchu Wok (Chinese inspired, sugar coated, fried meats on a mound of greasy simple carbohydrates). So if you are one of the people looking to lean out before we get into the summer months, start being honest with yourself about what you are eating. Clean up that diet and watch the weight melt off.

MISSION READY

Educate the mind to think, the heart to feel, the body to act. - TROY Motto 1887

Readiness is critical to you. Select a university that is prepared to meet your needs. One with a rich heritage of military support, one that offers quality in-demand academic programs, one that can travel with you around the world, and one that understands the needs of students who wear the uniform. “One of the Top Universities for Troops...” - Military Times

FMWR Communications Survey

To

make improvements where it’s necessary, Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) needs your opinion and participation to continue to offer our current services and make improvements.

We need information concerning your experiences with our facilities, events, activities, etc. FMWR in Yongsan supports a variety of services, products, activities, and events (refer to pages 5 and 6). The current economic

environment forces the

question, “If FMWR is

not able to offer all

current operations and

services, what is most

important to our patrons

and how can we

improve them?”

C

urrently, there are

two survey style formats

open to all patrons

to give their feedback.

The two forums consist

of the Interactive

Customer Evaluation

(ICE) and the FMWR

Communications Survey. The ICE survey can be found at multiple websites such as the Yongsan Garrison’s website (http://yongsan.korea.army.mil/) or patrons can go directly to the ICE website (http://ice. disa.mil/index.cfm?fa=site&site_id=37&dep=DoD). The ICE survey is great because cutomers can comment directly to their specific area of interest. Participants can leave their information in order to be contacted with a follow-up answer or they have the option of leaving the survey anonymous. Follow-up answers will come directly from the leadership who oversees the topic of interest. The FMWR Comunications Survey

focuses on FMWR

communicating efficiently

to customers and is

offered online at

www.mwrkorea.com.

The survey also offers

achance for participants

to win great prizes.

The chance to win ends

on 31 July 2013. he most important

T

message is that FMWR

in USAG Yongsan

runs on our community’s

feedback. Our purpose

is to make “Yongsan

THE assignment of

choice in Korea”. We

understand the assignment of choice means something different to every customer and quality of life definitely plays a role in this decision. Help us make sound decisions for our patrons and the future of USAG Yongsan, FMWR. For more information, please go to the USAG Yongsan, FMWR Facebook page. FMWR Communications Survey
