This year’s games were held in Samsun, Turkey. Three thousand athletes from over 97 countries competed in the 23rd Summer Deaflypmics to include our very own Chong Yong Son. Chong Yong Son is from Gyeonsangbuk-do, South Korea and currently lives and works in Seou, South Korea. Mr. Son is employed at the Main Post Club and in his free time enjoys bowling. He is very skilled and was chosen to compete in this years Deaflympics. When expressed interest in competing and representing South Korea at the 2017 Samsun Deaflympics, USAG Yongsan FMWR supported his wish and sent him for two months to join the Bowling Team and compete. The event was held from 18 July 2017 to 31 July 2017. Mr. Son and his team won the Bronze medal in Doubles and Team compeitions. When asked how Mr. Son felt about the experience he stated, “ It was a valuable experience for me to take to evaluate my own capability. I will sharpen my skills and gain better results in the next Deaflympics.” If you or someone you know is athelitically inclined and or would like to participate in the Deaflympics, go to deaflympics2017.org.
