Online Edition of Family Life Guide

Life has changed rather a lot since March and I’m always inspired and in awe of the fabulous local businesses, who make up a very important part of our community, by the way they have adapted and changed to outside influences. COVID has made a huge impact on both family life and the way businesses operate. In this special online edition you will discover what businesses have done to adapt to the Government guidelines by reading their Spotlights to keep your family entertained, active and safe.

Do support your local businesses whenever you can. I know many families are struggling due to the pandemic so please look at the Helplines from pages 8 - 11 for those who can help you in your time of need.

To all those mums and dads who are either jointingly, or single

handedly, home schooling as well as trying to work, run the house, source food and keep some level of normality can I just say - you are all hero’s, we choose to home school or send our children to school for a reason. Workers have been expected to home school whilst trying to work which is extremely hard, so for all of you that are juggling home/work/education you are AWESOME.

spotlight on bocketts farm park

Tell us about Bocketts Farm Park and how long it’s been running for.

Bocketts Farm Park is a working family farm run by the Gowing family who opened it in May 1992. In its 28th year, the farm park now welcomes over 250,000 visitors each year and employs over 200 staff. Bocketts Farm is still very much a working sheep farm and has over 500 ewes. Lambing is a big highlight of the year with more than 600 lambs expected each Spring. In addition to this, a programme of seasonal events takes place all year round with popular events running during both Halloween and Christmas. With acres of outdoor play, a huge indoor play barn, daily farm activities like Pony Rides, Small Animal Encounters and Pig Racing, you can always be sure of a great family fun day out.

How has Bocketts Farm Park adapted due to COVID19?

A lot of careful planning and preparation was required to allow us to re-open Bocketts Farm in a responsible and safe way. As we all get used to a slightly different way of living at the moment, a visit to Bocketts Farm will certainly feel a little different but we believe our visitors can still enjoy a great day despite the changes in place. One of the biggest changes made is the visitor capacity limit which has been much reduced. Advance tickets must now to bought online to ensure the numbers can be managed safely. Once at the farm, you’ll notice additional signage in place reminding visitors to distance themselves from others. Extra sanitiser points have also been set up on top of the large number of handwashing areas already in place. Some areas and activities like the Indoor Play, Pony and Tractor Rides will remain closed for now but there is still huge amounts to explore with acres of space outside including all the outdoor play and hundreds of animals to meet and feed.

Finally how can people get in touch with Bocketts Farm Park?

Please visit www.bockettsfarm.co.uk for more information. We can be contacted via email: office@bockettsfarm.co.uk or Tel: 01372 363764. For all the latest news straight from the farm, don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram!

COVID-19 Matched Fund Doubles the Difference

A local charity is asking for help to provide a lifeline for families across Elmbridge. Walton Charity has launched the Walton Charity COVID-19 Response Fund to support families most affected by the coronavirus crisis. The difference in this charity appeal is that Walton Charity will match donations, £1 for £1, up to £100,000, so a donation of £1 will be worth £2.25 with Gift Aid. This doubles the help available to support the most vulnerable local people. The fund will support a huge range of issues arising from the pandemic, from providing emergency food vouchers for those struggling to feed their children; providing equipment for home learning, to counselling/mental health support for young people. It will also provide funding to local organisations to ensure vital services for children and young people can continue during the crisis and beyond. The charity has a long history of supporting local families and groups through their Individual and Community Grants and, since March, has awarded more than £25,000 in emergency grants. They have a strong track record of being able to ensure that the support reaches those in need quickly. Following a recent donation of food vouchers, a local school shared this quote from a very grateful mum “Today I received £150 of Tesco vouchers and I’m yet to stop the grateful tears from falling. I honestly don’t know what I would have done if it wasn’t for amazing people like yourselves working tirelessly to help families like mine. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!” With most children still off school, they are particularly keen to support disadvantaged pupils to access learning from home, so they don’t fall behind. Just this week, thanks to matched funding from a local company, the charity will donate 10 new laptops to local primary schools, Walton Oak and Bell Farm, to support families with home learning. With school closures accelerating the education gap by a reported 36%, more help of this kind is needed urgently. Walton Charity Chief Executive, Jackie Lodge, hopes the local community will continue the kindness and support they have shown over the past few months: “The community response to the crisis has been incredible. Together, we have re-stocked foodbanks, organised shopping for friends, collected medicines for neighbours, and clapped for our carers. Now we must act to make sure all families affected by the crisis have a lifeline within reach.”

If you would like to make a difference in your local community, please support the appeal: www.waltoncharity.org.uk/walton-charity-covid-response-fund
