elcome to the new online PDF Summer 2020 magazine.
As all the venues and locations for distribution and most of the sites whose business we list are shut at present we are unable to produce a magazine. So the editors of each edition have chosen to produce an on line if cut down version of their magazines. I have produced the Crawley and Horsham edition with links to all the advertisers’ web sites that elected to participate. All you have to is click on the advert and you are taken to their website. There are links to home learning resouces. I have also added other useful links along with fun stuff for all the family including printable colouring sheets, so something for everyone. Even as I am putting this together the situation is changing with lockdown being lifted a little allowing more businesses and venues to open – social distancing permitting so it is with hope that a more normal situation will evolve that will be good for everyone. Meanwhile I hope you all stay safe and well and have a good summer

Coffee Break • Video • Dance and Thetre Arts Coffee break 1. If seven people meet each other and each shakes hands only once with each other, how many handshakes will there have been? 2. What five letter word becomes shorter when you add two letters to it? 3. A window cleaner is cleaning the windows on the 25th floor of a skyscraper, when he slips and falls. He is not wearing a safety harness and nothing slows his fall, yet he suffered no injuries. Explain 4. Acting on an anonymous phone call, the police raid a house to arrest a suspected murderer. They don’t know what he looks like but they know his name is John and that he is inside the house. The police bust in on a carpenter, a lorry driver, a mechanic and a fireman all playing poker. Without hesitation or communication of any kind, they immediately arrest the fireman. How do they know they’ve got their man? 5. Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice all live in the same house. Bob and Carol go out to a movie, and when they return, Alice is lying dead on the floor in a puddle of water and glass. It is obvious that Ted killed her but Ted is not prosecuted or severely punished. Explain Answers page 10

THE DICTONARY GAME This is a fun word game we used to play at big get togethers such as Christmas when family and friends would meet from all over. It was a tradition to play silly games after lunch and before tea. his is ideal for older children though younger ones can join teams with supervision and help. Age: 7+ You will need a large dictionary and at least two teams of three. One member of each team finds a word from the dictionary which they think is unknown and obscure and copies the definition from the dictionary. The other two members create fake definitions of their own, these can be plausible and often funny. When the time comes each member of the team present the word and definition to the other team(s) that have to guess the correct definition. This can be loads of fun, each member of each team can choose a word from the dictionary so a little bit of preparation in secret is required which in itself can be fun. As you can see this could be played on Zoom with families and friends anywhere so a great Lockdown game. It became a popular TV game of Call My Bluff
MY AUNT MIN WENT SHOPPING This is a memory game we used to play on long car journeys often when stuck in traffic jams. Why we named it Aunt Min no one knows as the never was an Aunt Min. There are no rules really, one person starts by saying “My Aunt Min went shopping and bought a ****” and selects an object and the next person repeats the phrase adding another object to the list. The list grows and the person who doesn’t remember all the items drops out. The game goes on getting longer, with people dropping out until there is a winner. Aunt Min can buy absolutely anything from a pea to the statue of liberty. You can add your own variations such as having to add the next object beginning with the last letter of the previous oject. Have Fun!!
? ? ? ? ?? ? ? ? ? ? ?? ?? This game originally started on the BBC in 1946 and has been very popular ever since. Y?ES ? ? ?
20 QUESTIONS
? ?
We played a version, again usually on long car journeys.
NO
It starts with one person thinks of an object – anything at all, living or inanimate. The rest of the people can only ask up to 20 questions among them to try and guess the object. The questioned can only answer Yes or No. It is important that the person being questioned does not change the object they are thinking of – that is not in the spirit of the game. The winner is the person who guesses correctly or if the object if it is not guessed
