The Summer Reading Challenge will return for 2020 with a newwhere children aged 4 - 11 can take part in the Challenge. This year it will run from June to September 2020 with a whole host of virtual (super silly!) events from guest celebrities and authors. The website will be free to access, featuring games, quizzes and digital downloadable activities to encourage children and their families to take part in the Challenge at home. This year's theme will also offer families a chance to have fun and just "GET SILLY!", with children being encouraged to read anything that makes them happy - whether it be a comic, joke book, poetry, fiction or non-fiction, in digital or print format, from e-book lending through the library or from what they already have at home. Now in its 7th year, right here at Belvoir Castle – 4 great firework displays! Three of the UK’s best firework companies compete against each other with a 10-minute firework display choreographed to music followed by a finale display from organisers MLE Pyrotechnics. The event is the only one of its type in the UK where the audience have the capability to vote for the team they liked the most using their mobile phone. Join Derrick Eames, resident Bat Man at Creswell Crags, for an illustrated talk and guided walk into the gorge at dusk to see these incredible creatures feed. We have up to 9 species of bats at Creswell Crags, including some that are a rare sight! This is usually a sell-out event. We’ve added extra dates this year to ensure demand is met – but we still expect it to be very popular! Book early! Sensible clothing and footwear required, as you will be outdoors for a lot of the event. The Visitor Centre, where the tour will take place, is fully accessible. The night will include a walk into the gorge, which is on wide, level footpaths. It can be muddy. Bookings are via Eventbrite only at this stage.

The Bramley Festival celebrates the origins of the Bramley Apple which was first grown in Southwell.
