Family Justice Center Alliance
California Family Justice Initiative Update
The Family Justice Center Alliance is grateful to the Blue Shield of California Foundation for its support of the California Family Justice Initiative. The Initiative has created a statewide network of Family Justice Centers that use model protocols, best practices, and innovative strategies to meet the needs of women, children, men, and families exposed to trauma and abuse. The Initiative promotes shared learning, expertise, capacity building, on-line resources, and technology on a statewide level. We would like to thank and congratulate the communities of Shasta, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Los Angeles, and West Contra Costa Counties for their hard work and successes achieved during Phase I of the Initiative! They have helped pave the way in this innovative statewide initiative to create a network of Family Justice Centers across California, and have all opened their doors to serve their communities. These new Centers have increased the effectiveness of domestic violence and sexual assault services through increased communication and collaboration. Collectively, with the Regional Training Centers in Alameda County, Anaheim, and San Diego approximately 18,000 survivors and their children have been served in the last 12 months. The Alliance applauds their efforts in making a difference in the lives of so many victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. We invite you to learn more about Phase I of the California Family Justice Initiative by reading the online E-Book. On September 1st the following five new communities were selected to participate in Phase II of the California Family Justice Initiative.
Alpine County (Hung-A-Lel-Ti Community Imperial County Sacramento County Solano County Yolo County CFJI Phase II Kickoff Conference
These five communities will work with the FJCA, Phase I Centers and the Regional Training Centers to expand current multi-agency co-location efforts and add to the statewide network of Family Justice Centers which can support each other, share lessons learned, implement best practices, and work cooperatively to enhance services across the state. The Alliance hosted the Phase II Kickoff Conference in San Diego attended by Learning Exchange Teams from the newly selected sites and representatives from Phase I and the Regional Training Centers. This conference all participants gave a chance to meet each other and begin the information sharing and mentoring process. During the two-day conference they were able to establish their goals and create 70-day work plans.

California Family Justice Initiative Update
The California Family Justice Initiative hosted the annual Family Justice Center Director’s Leadership Institute on September 27, 2011 in San Diego. The Institute brought together Directors from across California and around the county to discuss lessons learned and issues which Directors encounter in their Centers. California Directors presented their strategies, successes, and challenges on a variety of subjects including: Project Management, Leadership, Survivor Integration, Media and Public Relations, and Board Development. Together, new Directors and existing Directors learned some of the many skills needed to run a successful Center and helped each other with strategies to improve their Centers’ operation and effectiveness. The Alliance is excited to continue supporting the efforts of each community participating in the Initiative by providing trainings and resource materials, assistance with strategic planning, statistical information, and empirical data showing the successes of and need for Family Justice Centers. We look forward to 2012 and the new Family Justice Centers slated to open across California that will enhance services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault and their children. Thank you to all the participants for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to improving their communities.
