Strong Seller's Market

The market has been cooling over time and prices plateaued for a while. Despite the consistent decrease in MAI, we’re in the Seller’s zone. Watch for changes in MAI. If the MAI resumes its climb, prices will likely follow suit. If the MAI drops consistently or falls into the Buyer’s zone, watch for downward pressure on prices.

State Goals

Safe & Welcoming Environment

We are working hard to become a culturally responsive community. We are implementing school-wide Mindful Minutes and Classroom Community Circles as well as continuing to support healthy attendance. We also have a robust equity team that is researching best practices to bring to our staff and community. Academically, we are focusing on improving all instruction through the use of questioning and discussion strategies, with an emphasis on mathematical discourse.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

We strive to ensure all students and parents feel welcome by including them as partners in their child’s education. It is our goal to empower our community to have a voice in identifying the needs of the school. We have a School Counselor, Student Behavior Specialist, Community Health Worker, Housing and Family Advocate, and many other community partners. We explicitly teach our school and classroom expectations, and reinforce positive behaviors. We look forward to the opportunity to build strong and lasting positive relationships.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We have several lessons that we teach in all grades to address bullying and harassment throughout the year. As a team, staff, students and families work together to address conflict between students. We teach social and emotional skills to our students. We encourage our students to speak up when they see bullying. Our goal is that every student knows they are an important part of our Community and that students feel seen and heard. We look at data weekly to determine the health and safety of our school. We consistently practice emergency drills such as fire, earthquake and lock-in drills.

Earl Boyles is a SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) School and through SUN offers after school programs to all families. Some examples of extracurricular activities are: · Garden classes for students and families

Earl Boyles put family engagement at the heart of the school. We strives to engage all of our families by providing language supports when needed. We have a strong parent group called Parents United that works collaboratively with our staff to support students in their academic goals. Between the staff and Parents United Group we sponsor many family engagement events such as: · Back to School Night Movie Nights linked to literacy · Multicultural Night, Day of the Child, and Curriculum Nights · Monthly Spirit Assemblies · Music Performances and Link-up Concerts · Playday · Home Visits

We welcome and encourage community involvement and partnerships. One way is to attend our Parents United meetings. At these meetings we plan for our upcoming events and volunteer opportunities, discuss school-wide data, set goals, and discuss opportunities for advocacy. In addition to attending Parents United Meetings, families and community members can help in the classroom, work with our SUN school, volunteer in our weekly school food pantry, volunteer to be a SMART reader or work in our lending library or coach sports teams.

· Cooking classes · Science Clubs · Art Clubs · Volleyball and Basketball · Student Leadership Council · Zumba class · Safety Patrol · Marimba Band · Homework Club Parent enrichment classes · Financial Capabilities classes · Parent and family interaction groups for 0-3 in multiple languages · Renters Rights workshop

· Community Sports: Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Wrestling, and Track

We engage our families in a variety of ways throughout the school year: 6th Grade Orientation, Color Run, International Night, Colegio de Padres, Family Leadership Team, Site Council, Back to School Night, Conferences. Families also volunteer at the school and on field trips. Our communications through email and phone messenger are translated into our top five languages. Schoolwide events have interpreters available on site for support. Our website, Facebook, and Twitter can be read in families’ preferred language. We include parents in decision making by having them on our monthly school Site Council as well as lead our Family Leadership Team.

We partner with local organizations, businesses, schools, and professionals to provide our students with learning opportunities: Lewis & Clark College (Counseling), Oregon Health Science University (Hippocrates Circle), TRIO, OMSI, Latino Network, SUN Schools, REAP, NAYA, Trillium, IRCO, ODHS, Portland Police, Columbia Sportswear, Portland Fire Department, Career Fair, and others. We offer 11 AP courses and approximately 19 college level courses.

We offer 10 career pathway programs.

Grow our after school enrichment offerings using our newly won 21st Century grant. We currently offer 20 clubs, but will seek to add more where we find student need.

· We offer back to school night, conferences, homecoming, career fairs, and college nights. · We currently house the largest food bank in Oregon. We are adding a community garden, which we hope will involve more of our community while contributing more fresh food to our community. · We are partnering with several agencies through our 21st Century grant. We hope to continue to grow.
