Strong Seller's Market
The market has started cooling and prices have been flat for several weeks. Since we’re in the Seller’s zone, watch for changes in MAI. If the MAI resumes its climb, prices will likely follow suit. If the MAI drops consistently or falls into the Buyer’s zone, watch for downward pressure on prices.

State Goals
Safe & Welcoming Environment
Carus’ school goals for the ‘18-’19 school year centered on: •Establishing high expectations for all students while focusing on equitably meeting all students’ needs. •Coordinating our services to best meet the needs of our community, and •Finding ways to create meaningful family involvement in our community Our shift for the ‘19-’20 school year will be to create more consistency throughout the building and to create more common expectations around writing instruction, which we believe will increase our schoolwide writing sample scores as well as our ELA state assessment scores.
The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.
Carus works diligently to create a safe and welcoming environment for families and students. We have implemented a school-wide “Morning Meeting” structure where character education and problem-solving skills are taught to create positive classroom climates. We believe in partnering with families to best support their children. We communicate with families via email, text message, and phone, in English and Spanish. All written materials are available in English and Spanish. Our front office staff is bilingual in order to support and welcome our families. Interpreters are available for parent conferences, phone calls, and drop-in visits.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
PARENT ENGAGEMENT
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Carus works in a variety of ways to prevent bullying and harassment, and to ensure student physical and emotional safety. Our full-time counselor teaches student safety and anti-bullying lessons through both a “stop-walk-and-talk” model, as well as through the use of the Second Steps curriculum. Carus is a Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS) school where explicit behavior is taught in a variety of locations. The central tenet is that appropriate behavior is taught and reinforced. Through our Student Support Team, our lunch buddies program, and our peer mentoring program, we are able to reinforce our school-wide expectations of being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible.
Extracurricular activities from the 20182019 school year included: •Meet and Greet Music and BBQ •Girls on the Run •Summer School •Spring Carnival •5th Grade Music Program •Family Reading Night •Brain University Class •Spring After School Enrichment Classesbasketball, ukulele, and chess •PTA sponsored reading night •Artist in Residence experience and performances •Oregon Battle of the Books
We work hard to build authentic relationships with our families and to communicate consistently to create opportunities to engage in our school community. We send weekly Principal email messages and our parent communication policy calls for teachers to communicate at least twice monthly about academic content and events that are taking place. All communication is provided in both English and Spanish. Parent engagement is encouraged via parent conferences, family nights, and Love and Logic parenting classes. PTA meetings, parent volunteering, and Site Council are other ways that parents can be involved and engaged in our school.
Community partnerships are critical to serving the Carus community. The Canby Center partners with us to provide programs such as lunch buddies, backpack buddies, and reading mentors. The Canby Foursquare Church has promoted community involvement in our school by creating an annual ‘Serve Day’ where community members work on a variety of projects that beautify our school. We also have a Carus CARE team that works to provide community donations to students. In addition, we have annual traditions of a coin drive and canned food drive to provide local families food during the holidays. Our community partnerships also lead to wonderful field trip and guest speaker opportunities throughout our school.

About Our School ADVANCED COURSEWORK
CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
PARENT & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
CHS provides all students options for advanced academics. In most content areas, lower division students have an advanced class option, comprised of more rigorous classes to prepare them for future studies. All students have “Advanced Placement” (AP) classes or other advanced options. These include: AP US History, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Calculus , AP English, AP Spanish Language. Students take advantage of our numerous dual credit options through our partnering higher education institutions. Currently, there are over 40 classes that offer dual credit to our students, and this year we plan to offer more classes through the Oregon Tech Wilsonville Campus. Finally, students can enroll in Clackamas Community College through the Extended Options Program.
The foundation of our CTE programs is our Future Focus career education class, required of all sophomores, which provides experience for every student in career exploration and job shadows as a basis for future studies. Students have the opportunity to enroll in any of the following Programs of Study, with dual credit options:Accounting, Agriculture, Construction, Early Childhood Education, Graphic ArtsM, anufacturing, Marketing. Currently, CHS is developing a multimedia program with a focus on video production/journalism. We have an automotive science partnership with World of Speed. Additionally, we’ve partnered with the Microsoft TEALS program to launch our first computer science classes and look forward to developing a full program of study.
With 18 competitive teams, Canby students participate in many traditional OSAA sports as well as club sports like snowboarding, lacrosse, and rugby. Of note, our equestrian team (OHSET) is distinguished, winning many regional and individual awards. Our dance team is currently looking to continue its winning streak with a sixth straight state championship! CHS also excels in the fine and performing arts. With classes like jazz band and concert choir to sculpture and advanced photography, our students have many opportunities for artistic expression. Our competitive choir is regarded as one of the state’s best, regularly placing in state championships. As for our 25 student clubs, our robotics teams, FFA, and FBLA chapters consistently win numerous chapter and individual competitions.
Canby is an exceptionally supportive community that values its schools. CHS welcomes families in a variety of ways, and we work to empower them as partners in education. From our Open House to curriculum night and transition activities for incoming students, we provide opportunities for parents to learn about our school and connect with staff. Each trimester we provide parent conferences and present info. sessions on topics from college preparedness and financial aid to athletic eligibility and teen issues. We use multiple social media platforms to keep families informed and connected. In addition, with the help of the High School Success Act, we’ve expanded our support to our Latino community with Spanish language programs and information to help all families be successful partners.
