Safe & Welcoming Environment

It is the mission of Jacksonville Elementary to provide a positive environment which promotes responsible, resourceful, respectful individuals inspired with a lifelong love of learning. Specifically, the Jacksonville Site Council Team via input from families and staff, is charged with the responsibility of creating/updating the Jacksonville School Improvement Plan annually. For more information about our School Improvement Plan, please visit the Jacksonville Elementary School Website.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

Our staff strive to create an environment where all students feel challenged, supported, and connected with school. School communications are distributed in both English and Spanish to meet the communication needs of families. We have bilingual staff available to communicate with families as necessary. Further, our school provides communication through a variety of formats to meet the needs of families. The Medford School District recently was awarded a grant to hire an Equity Specialist to work with families and students across the district!

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Jacksonville Elementary School upholds the district's policies which prohibit hazing, harassment, bullying, cyberbullying and/or threats of violence. Students are coached to report any and all incidents related to harassment, bullying or threats of violence against students or staff to any adult on campus who will take the report seriously. A Social Skills curriculum is taught to all students grades KG-5. Students needing additional support may work with the building principal, school counselor, or Behavior Support Team. All staff on campus have been ALICE Trained and are provided with yearly education in crisis response by a School Resource Officer. Jacksonville conducts lockdown drills twice annually. Jacksonville is equipped with a buzz-in system at the front entrance.

Jacksonville Elementary is known for it's numerous extracurricular activities that serve to enrich the educational experience of all students. Many of these activities are run by our PTO through the help of our supportive parents!

Parents and guardians have several opportunities to get involved at Jacksonville Elementary School. Parents may help prep and deliver art lessons in classrooms, prepare for evening PTO run events or work in their child's classroom. Any parent may get involved in PTO activities. These activities are promoted often throughout the year including our Open House each September and at our Kinder Boo Hoo Breakfast held during kinder soft start each year. Every year a school improvement survey is distributed to families which allows parents/guardians to give feedback in the services that our school provides for students and families. The Jacksonville Elementary Site Council utilizes survey information in the writing of our yearly school improvement plan.

Strong partnerships with several entities enrich the educational experience of all students at Jacksonville: City of Jacksonville, Britt Festivals, Jacksonville Rotary, Jacksonville Review, Medford Rogue Rotary, Jacksonville Lions Club, Jacksonville Boosters, Sparrow Clubs, Access and Jacksonville Police and Fire Departments. Families may support any of these community organizations if they choose.

State Goals

Safe & Welcoming Environment

Our goal is to provide a rigorous and relevant education for all students and build positive relationships with each student. Rigor and relevance are enhanced when we create opportunities for students to engage in their own learning as they plan for meaningful post-secondary career & college options. We measure our progress through critical data including graduation & completion rates, test scores, college credits in high school, college enrollment/persistence, attendance, and credits earned. We monitor and respond to this data as it applies to all student groups in our school.

We strive to create a safe and welcoming school for every student. In annual surveys, both parents & students identify school culture, relationships with staff/students, and a safe, respectful, inclusive environment as strengths of SMHS. Our goal is a school with both the flexibility and structure needed for each and every student to learn and grow in a productive educational environment. We believe that schools are safest when we successfully create a culture of student involvement in academics, athletics & activities–a place for every kid–and when ALL students are known and supported by caring adults throughout every aspect of South High.
