School Goals

State Goals

Safe & Welcoming Environment

Talent Elementary will continue to utilize the district-wide attendance initiatives put in place to improve student attendance. We will maintain our focus on relationships, engaging learning environment, and communication with families, which showed strong gains last year in our regular attender’s percentage. Targeting Reading readiness and math aptitude by 3rd grade remain a priority for our school.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

Talent Elementary utilizes several events and programs to create a safe and welcoming environment. We have an orientation/meet and greet first day with our first through 5th grade families and students. Our kindergarten teachers do home visits with all our incoming kindergarten families. Our inclusive programs consist of a K-5 Two-Way Spanish program that highlights our Spanish community. Talent Elementary also houses the districts two elementary TLC classrooms. These classrooms serve special needs students that are an integral part of our inclusive environment.

Safe & Welcoming Environment

Thank you for viewing our school report card. In this report card you will see many strengths (in particular our students’ academic growth) as well as some areas where we have opportunities for improvement. As a school we are going to continue to focus on improving the math performance of our students. We are designing and implementing targeted, individualized intervention programs for these students to meet this goal. Additionally, while we are proud of our attendance improvement, we are working diligently to continue to boost attendance rates and we are implementing a comprehensive plan to meet this goal.

We have several programs in place to ensure that we have a safe and inclusive environment for students. These include: a Restorative Justice program, an anti-bullying curriculum called Choice Point, a Positive Behavior and Instructional Supports (PBIS) program, a school counselor, and an entire group of staff members in our Student Services department to help support students and families in need. Finally, all students will engage in social emotional learning activities and discussions through our new curriculum, Second Step.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Our school district has adopted several policies that expressly forbid bullying and harassment, both in person and online. Please see our school board policies located at http://policy.osba.org/phoenix/ for more information regarding these and other board policies.

Our extra curricular offerings include the following sports and activities: · Interscholastic sports: football, volleyball, cross country, track and field, boys and girls basketball, and wrestling. · Clubs: Leadership, Speech and Debate, and Soccer Club · Academic Competitions: Scavenger Hunt, Penta Games, Brain Bowl · After School Activities: After School Enrichment Classes (such as drama, guitar, and cooking to name a few), and Academic Support/Homework Help

Parents have many different avenues through which they can be involved in our school and programs. Some examples include: · Becoming a member of our Site Council, helping to craft and monitor school-wide goals. · Joining our Booster Club, which is a parent organization helping to fund-raise to support school programs. · Becoming a volunteer in one or more of our classrooms. · Becoming a volunteer or paid coach for one of our sports and/or activities. · Many other opportunities! Contact our office for more information.

Our school remains committed to being a positive member of our community at large as well as being a partner to many of our local businesses and organizations. Through our advisory classes our students perform many acts of community service both on campus and off. We also have community partners coming to our school to work with our students in classes and in other capacities. We have a strong partnership with Talent Police Department and Jackson County Fire District 5 and they provide lessons and support for our students.

State Goals

Safe & Welcoming Environment

We are focused on creating a highly engaging environment where all students succeed. Some of our focus areas are continuing to increase freshman on-track to graduate, increasing student attendance, and ensuring all students graduate on-time. We are working towards these goals through the utilization of Graduation Coaches, and Attendance Specialist, and by creating engaging coursework opportunities through CTE programs.

We strive to create an environment where all students feel safe. We value and embrace student diversity. We currently have a full-time School Resource Officer that helps ensure school safety and security. We are also partners with Safe Oregon, which is a platform for students and parents to anonymously report unsafe school conditions, bullying and harassment situations, or any other student or parent areas of concern.
