State Goals

Safe & Welcoming Environment

Faubion’s school wide goals include both an academic and social/emotional focus. For the 2019-2020 year, we aim to raise reading proficiency by 10% in the 3rd grade, raise mathematics proficiency by 10% in the 2nd grade, and strengthen 100% of our classrooms and school wide expectations in terms of Tier 1 supports/systems. Additionally, we nurture an inclusive and safe environment for staff, families, and students.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

Faubion School prides itself on welcoming all families and communities. Through our 3 to PhD initiative, we aim to make the school the heartbeat of the community. Faubion School houses wrap-around supports such as medical/dental services through Kaiser Permanente, mental health services through Trillium Family Services, and low-cost healthy food through basics. Additionally, we are supported by Concordia's College of Education.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

At Faubion School we foster a safe community through consistently applying Restorative Practices, through an equity and social justice lens, to all that we do. We believe that a supportive and empathetic community is an essential way to address issues of bullying and harassment. In addition, our robust counseling staff comprised of school counselors, a Trillium Prevention Specialist, and Student Success Advocates, work with students in small groups or as individuals to address conflict.

Faubion School supports robust SUN programming and before/after childcare through YMCA. In addition, Faubion staff coach multiple sports, act as advisor for clubs such as BSU, QSA and other affinity groups.

Faubion School aims to open our building to parents, so they can support all aspects of teaching and learning. Many of our parents participate in Faubion Families United, an equity-focused PTA group. In addition, our Pre-school program includes two Community Agents, who work as liaisons between our robust PK program and our families. 3 to PhD also enables parents to act as leaders on its leadership council, as well as supports them in leading community cooking nights. Administration, alongside with 3 to PhD partners, hold monthly parent meetings both on site at the school as well as at community spaces within the Faubion boundary.

Faubion holds many community engagement events throughout the school year. Most of these events are centered on showcasing student talent, home-cooked meals by our staff and families, STEAM, literacy, and celebrating our many cultures. Additionally, we hold spaces and events for families to come together and connect over a meal, as community building is central to Faubion’s mission.

Safe & Welcoming Environment

As a Middle College, 100% of our students will enroll in and earn college credit during their high school careers. Our staff prepares and supports our students as they take college level courses with our partners at Portland Community College and Portland State University. We do this by creating a welcoming environment where students hone their critical thinking skills and develop an understanding of themselves and their communities. Our Class of 2019 earned over 3800 college credits and roughly 95% successfully completed at least 12 college credits.

We work hard to make our school a place where all students and families feel welcome and included. We celebrate our community’s diversity and we honor this diversity in our learning activities. We understand how important it is to keep our students feeling safe, both physically and emotionally, when they are with us.

PARENT & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Our staff work closely with Portland Community College (PCC) and Portland State University (PSU) to align curriculum so that students can successfully earn college credit during their high school careers. Dual Credit Opportunities available through PCC and PSU at Jefferson include courses such as Reading/Writing 115, Art 115, Senior Inquiry, and Math 95. College Credit Opportunities at PCC are extensive and vary according to student interest. Please see our website for more detail: https://www.pps.net/domain/2339. Our Health Sciences/Biotechnology Program prepares students for a successful transition to post secondary education and training for careers in science, health care or biotech.

Our Health Sciences/Biotechnology Program features extensive academic courses in science, math and career education. Through our partnership with the On Track OHSU! Program students have the opportunity to explore health and science related careers and to practice clinical and laboratory skills. On campus opportunities include Digital Media and Video Production, a range of Visual and Performing Arts, and Coding. Many additional opportunities are available through our partnership with PCC. These include cohort classes at PCC each term only open to our students (e.g., Intro to Business), as well as connection to trades, and professional certificate programs like Emergency Protective Service.

Students can participate in a variety of athletic teams depending on student interest. Over the past three years we offered sports teams in cross country, volleyball, football, basketball, wrestling, soccer, swimming, baseball, softball and track.

Students also have the opportunity to work with our community partners Self Enhancement Incorporated and Latino Network for after school enrichment. We also partner with On-track OHSU!, Gear-up, ETS/Upward Bound to provide students with authentic career and college experiences.

Data are suppressed to protect confidential student information.

Students can also participate in our worldrenowned dance program. In addition to the dance courses within the school day, we have two tour performance companies: the Jefferson Dancers and the Jefferson Dancers II. Students have the opportunity to compete in Mock Trial and spoken-word competitions such as Verslandia. Please see our website for more detail: https://www.pps.net/domain/2294 And this page for clubs: https://www.pps.net/domain/4108.

We welcome our families and community to participate to connect with our PTSA, serve on Site Council, and attend Latino Family nights. In addition we hold meetings throughout the year to support students and families as they navigate high school. Please see our website for details about these events. We look forward to working with our students, staff, families and community to help our students thrive.

Safe & Welcoming Environment

Our focus is on literacy and math fluency, with the aim of refining our instructional strategies and providing all students with the skills they need to be ready to succeed in college and careers. We strive to provide a welcoming environment and equitable opportunities for students of all races, genders, and home languages. We encourage you to contact us with any questions, concerns, or information that will help us ensure success for your students.

We work hard to make our school a place where all students and families feel welcome and included. We celebrate our community’s diversity and we honor this diversity in our learning activities. We understand how important it is to keep our students feeling safe, both physically and emotionally, when they are with us.
