Slight Seller's Advantage

The market has been cooling off a bit in recent weeks, as more homes are available and demand is less. We’re already seeing prices move lower as a result. Expect this trend to continue especially if the index falls to the Buyer’s zone. Watch for a persistent up-turn in Market Action to signal prices rising again.

Safe & Welcoming Environment

At Woodlawn we’ve been working hard at integrating new literacy lessons that focus on growing the students’ independence and voice as readers and writers. We’ve put in additional supports that include a Reading Specialist in order to ensure that all students can succeed. We’ve also focused on school climate and ensuring that our students’ social and emotional needs are met in every aspect of their day. Wellness is a running focus for us all, as we want to ensure our students are ready to learn and our staff is ready to support them.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

We work hard to make our school a place where all students and families feel welcome and included. We celebrate our community’s diversity and we honor this diversity in our learning activities. We understand how important it is to keep our students feeling safe, both physically and emotionally, when they are with us.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Portland Public Schools has created policies to help our schools provide safe environments for every student. This includes teaching students and staff about bullying and harassment, and providing methods to report and respond to any of these incidents. We have a PPS threat assessment team to help address reports of safety concerns. We also support the district-wide implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Restorative Justice practices through our Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) department.

Woodlawn has a long standing partnership with Self Enhancement, Inc. (SEI) and we collaborated this year through the county SUN program. All students have the opportunity to apply for SUN classes and many students participate across the year. We offered a collaborative Summer Program utilizing Woodlawn teachers for academic intervention and SEI partners for enrichment classes. Students had opportunities to participate in Green Team, Student Council, Marathon Kids, and Lego Robotics across the year. Check out our school website for more information about these and other opportunities.

We really value family engagement and voice at Woodlawn! Beyond the five major events — Back to School Night, Math Harvest Night, Art Night, Poetry Slam, STEAM Night — we host throughout the school year, there are several opportunities every month for families to become part of what we do. We keep families abreast of these opportunities through our weekly newsletter, social media, school messenger texts, monthly coffee talks with the Principal, PTA meetings, Spanish-language group Woodlawn Familias and more. Please check our website for details about these events.

We welcome and appreciate our community partners for bringing their skills and passions to our assemblies, classrooms and student groups. We partner with the Oregon Food Bank and SEI for a weekly food pantry, staffed by volunteers. During the school day, volunteers work side by side supporting reading instruction and helping in our common spaces; library, art, office and gym. Our STEAM planetary focus has helped us to build new partnerships in the community that bring us new learning; National Wildlife Federation, Portland Parks & Recreation, Concordia University, METRO, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and The River Mile Network. These partnerships are valuable assets to our students’ success.

As a Middle College, 100% of our students will enroll in and earn college credit during their high school careers. Our staff prepares and supports our students as they take college level courses with our partners at Portland Community College and Portland State University. We do this by creating a welcoming environment where students hone their critical thinking skills and develop an understanding of themselves and their communities. Our Class of 2019 earned over 3800 college credits and roughly 95% successfully completed at least 12 college credits.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025.
