Initial Return，初次回歸，是我所製作的第一本記述自然攝影集，這本攝影集是我認識自然的開端，收錄從 2020 年 9 月到
2021 年 4 月拍攝的作品。Return 相連在一起為回歸的意思，Re turn 分開為兩個字即有再次運轉之意，自然作為人類原始的 孕育地，我們離開這片山林到城市生活，而回歸到這片山林時卻又得再度離開。
從小我便對自然和動物感到興趣，2018 年我開始接觸攝影，自然和動物的題材一直是我的第一順位，直到 2020 年 9 月初第
一次登上百岳去，遇到何謂真正的野生動物們，一直以來我都很享受處在山林的氛圍中，不過那次特別有感觸，那是我第一 次認識和熟悉他們，從那之後我便熱衷於尋找更多的野生動物。隨著暖化問題每況愈下，物種面臨消逝和滅絕的威脅，生態
逐漸不再運轉。在原始的自然環境中，隨之而來的往往是驚喜，發現原來臺灣還保有這一片淨土，溪流佈滿誕生不久的蝌蚪 群，鳥隻捕食蟲類，哺乳類穿梭在草叢間，這些畫面都是令心灰意冷的我們，得到再次救贖的良藥。為了使自然界可以再次 運轉，記錄這些野生動物變成生活中不可缺失的部分，也是讓大眾認識到他們的一種方式。
在旅程中陌生感佔多數，發覺我不是如此瞭解孕育我們的土地，自然不只是我攝影的背景，他透露出一種深度，每次造訪山
林都是一種回歸的感覺，回歸令人感到赤裸和未知的神秘，卻又是最貼近的方式接觸萬物。這些事物對生活在城市的我們而 言，還是太過抽象，將這些哺乳類、爬蟲類、鳥類的身影真實呈現在我們眼前，尤其是那令人無法迴避的雙眼，透過 Initial
Return 帶到人們的生活中。

Initial Return is my first nature and wildlife photography book I produce in 2021, including the photography works from September 2020 to April 2021. Return means getting back to nature, as it is separated into two words, re turn, it means beginning again. Nature is the birthplace of human beings; however, we live apart from nature and move to the cities, and when we visit nature, we have to leave again. I've been interested in nature and animals since I was a child and get started in photography in 2018. Nature and wildlifes are always my types of photography, there is surly nothing than capturing the landscape and animals in my hometown. At the beginning of September 2020, I went to one of the 100 peaks of Taiwan, Hehuan Mountain for the first time, making me realize what it's the truly nature. I always enjoy the atmosphere of being in the mountains and forests, but it was the first time I got acquainted with them at that time. With the deter iorating problems of war ming, species are facing the threat of extinction, and the ecology is no longer functioning gradually. As a Taiwanese, I record and keep the last unspoiled places of my country, streams are full of newly hatched tadpoles, birds prey on insects, and mammals among the grass. In order to make nature returning again, recording wild animals as an indispensable part of life is also a way for the public to recognize them. - Fan Ning
