HUMAN

THE CHRISTMAS HUMAN Original story written by Firo, illustrated by Fanny Giordano.

The snow was falling softly from the infinite black sky. Through the worn punctured window, one could glimpse the old bronze street lamps, glowing through the dense falling snow, muffling the noise of the passing cars. The Christmas spirit was here, stronger than ever before.

The sun was still asleep when Lucca woke up on Christmas day. Only the song of the earliest morning birds could be heard, ever so faintly, through the window.

Prepared for the adventures of the day, Lucca tiptoed through the dark pristine hallway, to brush his needles. A soft light shined through the hollow eye of the kitchen door. Thinking he was alone he curiously placed his branch on the handle of the door.

Illuminated in red and blue, they all awaited him around the kitchen table. Brother Tree had made a portion of the finest soil ready for him. He ate so fast, that he had to swallow a gallon of water, so not to dry out.

" To the forest ! " Lucca said. Brother and Sister Tree pushed the car until it started coughing. They both jumped inside and off they drove.

14 km

As they walked through the unspoiled snow, a sign lit up. " Chloe’s Christmas Human Farm ", it said.

A human army slowly appeared in front of them. Such a vast collection, it was incredible ! Through the freezing wind and falling snowflakes, all the humans spoke terribly loud, trying to warm each other with their gibberish.

Father Tree had a long time ago, heard about a very special afro - asian human, that would fit their living room perfectly. It should be the most lovely and defined of its kind. For a long time, they searched among all the humans. Many were skinny and tall, without charisma.

" I found it ! " Lucca exclaimed loudly. " I found a whole family ! ” The others ran there in excitement.

There they stood. With a big afro and sweet small eyes, ready to be cut.

Fearful of what he was about to witness, the human brother closed his eyes and covered his ears. Through his hands he could hear a loud, piercing cry, imagining his human sister’s cold red cheeks, drowning in a waterfall of tears. Mother Tree coldly collected them into a bowl, to make jewellery for her daughter. They all moved to the side and shouted " Fleshbag ! " Unfortunately, the little girl fell with her face down and broke her nose.

They grabbed the girl and carried her to the counter. The owner wrapped her up and dropped her in the back of the truck. On the bumpy way home the human stuffed the whole car with hair.

They carried her carefully up the stairs and placed her on a pair of golden buffalo shoes. The Tree family decorated her with gold and silver necklaces, diamonds and with all the heart could desire. Father Tree came in and placed the crown on her head. There she was, elegant and adorned in the living room with her beautiful hair.

After the big feast, they ran to the human and started to dance and sing. It felt like days for the human.

The days between Christmas and new years eve quickly passed by. The girl’s afro transformed into tiny compact balls of hair, falling softly to the floor. The hairless human looked more and more dull, so the family decided to throw her out.

They lived all the way up on the third floor, so instead of making a hairy mess in the stairway, they threw her out of the window. She fell softly through the air and with a bang, the bin lid closed on her head and she was gone.

Feeling the touch of her family transformed her pain into happiness.
