Many of afflictions such as chronic sinus infections, allergies and migraines put an incredible amount of strain on our sinuses. The pressure is sometimes so hard that it makes it hard for us to concentrate, focus and sometimes even faction on a daily basis. Many of these conditions are reoccurring and make it hard to go on with a productive life. I have had many of these symptoms myself, and completely understand why individuals go to extreme measures to find solutions to these common problems. The sinuses make up a large area within our heads connecting the mouth, nose and ears. Thus the pressure is felt by numerous nerves and can be felt all through out the facial area. There are many prescription and over the counter medications targeting sufferers but all of them come with their own negative side effects. Thankfully some natural ways also exist to fix these problems. Mint extracts in boiling water can be inhaled for a period of time to open the sinuses and this will alleviate the pressure a bit. This should be done for a few minutes, but not close enough to the water so that you do not burn yourself. Take deep breaths in and out and last as long as you or until the water starts getting warm. This can then be followed with the neti pot and nose rinsing which will clean out the sinuses and remove any waste, mucous and allergens that have collected inside. This process itself is very natural, healthy and gentle without side effects and has been practiced by yoga practitioners for thousands of years. There are many methods of using the Neti and some advanced ones allow for the water to get into the sinuses and can really clear up a lot of the causes of the sinus pressure. These should be practiced, or thought by a specialist as they can be a bit tricky. I did learn them myself but have made a few mistakes that were not as pleasant as I would have hoped, and do not want anyone to go through that themselves. I have stopped having sinus infection and migraines which used to bug me constantly and can safely recommend the neti. Another way of relieving sinus pressure is by stimulating pressure points around the facial area. There are books and guides which describe the exact locations, and this can be done outside or in a car without use of any products. The two that help me the most are located just below on the outside of the nostrils, and on the top of the nose between the eyebrows. The bottom one actually has two holes that can be felt with the fingers so it is easy to locate them. I hold my fingers, with pressure, on the points and count to ten after which I slowly release. Doing it too fast can cause even greater pain, and possibly some damage so slow is the key. I hope this has helped you a bit, as these methods have worked for me and some of my colleagues. There are many fancy ways promoted on the web, but I have found that simplicity is usually the key.
