Contemporary Media Broadcasting - Radio
Fine Art Foundation
– a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. Students run a CRTC licensed radio station CIXX-FM (106.9), CFRL Radio, located in Fanshawe’s broadcast centre, along with the visual internet station Stellar Radio. Graduates work on-air, in audio production and behind the scenes in broadcast, marketing, sales, promotions, creative copywriting, and administration.
– a one-year Ontario College Certificate program designed to give a broad base of experience and knowledge in the visual arts. This foundation year introduces students to the fundamentals of art and design: practical skills, critical thinking and visual vocabulary. Studies in this program include painting, drawing, video, sculpture, photography and art history. Through studio based projects students will develop a portfolio of work in a range of media. This program prepares students for the Advanced Diploma program in Fine Art at Fanshawe College, or advanced arts programs at other institutions, and prepares students who are seeking entry-level employment opportunities requiring fundamental visual arts skills.
Broadcasting - Television – a two-year Ontario College Diploma program for people who want to work behind the cameras. You’ll work in operations of FCTV, Fanshawe’s campus station and learn skills that have helped our graduates earn key positions with private and public broadcasters, in production houses, community cable systems and in audio/ video departments.
Film Studies Major – is offered through the General Arts and Science program. This one-year Ontario College Certificate or two-year Ontario College Diploma program is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in filmmaking and to prepare students for further film studies, particularly Fanshawe’s Advanced Filmmaking program. The 45-week Ontario College Graduate Certificate Advanced Filmmaking program provides opportunities to work in crossfunctional teams to create both narrative and documentary films, television productions and other media.
Fine Art – a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma program that introduces you to a variety of media and encourages you to set the direction for your own work. Along with studio work exploring sculpture, painting, drawing, multimedia, printmaking, photography and time-based media, you will learn the history and philosophy of art and about current trends within the industry. These are the disciplines necessary for working as a professional artist and/or teacher. Artists are often self-employed but also work for advertising agencies, studios, art galleries and museums.

Interactive Media Design and Production – a two-year Ontario College Diploma program for students interested in graphic imaging and computer-based design. You will gain skills in web design and programming, 3D, special effects, interactive digital media such as game design, effects for film and video, and design for print. Students work on both PC and Mac platforms as they prepare for careers in digital design departments or as selfemployed entrepreneurs.
Journalism - Broadcast – a two-year Ontario College Diploma program that takes a hands-on, practical approach to broadcast journalism. Students work in the community and in a live broadcast newsroom with the latest broadcast technology as they research, write, edit and present news stories and current affairs programming. Graduates work as newscasters, sportscasters, reporters, editors, writers, producers and news directors. Students produce news and information for CIXX-FM 106.9, CFRL, FCTV and our new multi-media radio station: www.stellarradio.ca.
Media Theory and Production – a four-year collaborative degree program in which graduates earn a three-year Bachelor of Arts in Media, Information and Technoculture from The University of Western Ontario and a two-year Ontario College Diploma from Fanshawe College. The first year at Western focuses on the theories of communication, information and entertainment technologies and culture. At Fanshawe, students specialize in one of four areas: Interactive Media Design and Production; Journalism; Broadcasting Television; or Broadcasting - Radio. Graduates work in radio or television production as writers, multimedia developers, graphic artists, multimedia project managers or news reporters.
Music Industry Arts – a two-year Ontario College Diploma program preparing students for careers in technical, business and creative areas of the entertainment industry. The program is intensively hands-on and promotes the professional skills and attitude required to succeed in the musical, technical and commercial areas of audio production, engineering and business.
Photography – a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. Students use digital camera systems, high-end laptops (supplied), up-to-date software and digital laboratories and studios that are accessible 24/7 to gain both hands-on and theoretical understanding and experience. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in photography, as technicians, photographers or assistants.
Theatre Arts – a two-year Ontario College Diploma program (offered at our Citi Plaza location in downtown London) for students who want professional actor training in a conservatory ensemble setting. This program prepares students for live theatre work (classical, modern, children’s and self-created), as well as film and television. Studies include theatre history and aesthetics, as well as studio work with industry professionals – acting, improvisation, acting for the camera, mask work, vocal ensemble, movement and voice. Students will demonstrate their skills in professionally produced, in-house productions, presented to the community at large.

Graduate Certificate Programs 3D Animation and Character Design
Corporate Communication and Public Relations
– this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program will build upon the student’s prior technical knowledge acquired from his/her fine art, media or design education. Successful graduates will master all skills needed to create 3D animated characters and animated short films including: life drawing and storyboarding, 3D modeling and animation, shaders, texture mapping and lighting, character design, video editing and audio effects. Concept development, team work, strategic planning and project management will be integral components of this dynamic two-term program.
– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program designed to prepare college and university graduates to work in corporate communications. Students hone writing, presentation, desktop publishing and web design skills and face public relations and ethics challenges that will increase their communication-related skills. A second-term work placement gives students a chance to put their skills to use. Graduates are employed in advertising and PR agencies, hospitals and health care, banking and insurance, the arts and media, small and large manufacturers, government, politics and the not-for-profit sector.
Advanced Filmmaking
Interactive Media Specialist
– a 45-week Ontario College Graduate Certificate program that builds on your degree or diploma skills by providing opportunities to work in cross-functional teams to create both narrative and documentary films and television productions. All aspects of digital filmmaking and video, including pre-production, production and post-production are covered. Graduates will be trained to work as independent filmmakers or to work with film or TV production companies as writers, producers, directors or in project management, marketing or distribution.
– this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two semesters, provides intensive training in new media technologies with an emphasis on website design, interactive media and emerging technologies. The curriculum will combine courses in design, marketing and media management while incorporating technology from Adobe, Discreet, Macromedia, etc. Graduates will be prepared to work as designers, programmers, producers, art directors, technical leads and project managers.
Audio Post-Production
Visual Effects and Editing for Contemporary Media
– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program offering students advanced techniques in digital audio recording and editing for studio and video. This program is for students interested in working in sound for film and television, recording studios, production houses and other sound-related industries.
Broadcast Journalism Television News – a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program preparing graduates for a career in television news. The main focus is hands-on assignments including shooting, editing, producing and writing television news stories. Graduates work as TV journalists, videographers, producers, editors and news directors.
Contemporary Media: Theory and Production – a four-year collaborative degree program in which graduates earn a four year Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Film Studies from Brock University and an Ontario College Graduate Certificate from Fanshawe College. This program is intended to produce students who are articulate, informed and critically aware of the roles of various contemporary media. Once students complete the full first year at Brock University, successful students are considered for admission into the Degree/Graduate Certificate program. At Fanshawe College, students must choose an area of study for the Graduate Certificate in one of three areas: Advanced Filmmaking, Broadcast Journalism – Television News or Visual Effects and Editing for Contemporary Media.

– a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program focusing on video editing and animation. Students learn about graphics, animation and visual effects using emerging technologies and software. The collaborative learning environment means you’ll be working on productions with students from other programs to get the feel of a real work environment. Graduates work as editors, compositors or animators in the television and film industries.
