Preparatory Studies General Arts and Science - One Year or Two Year
General Arts and Science: One year (English Language Studies)
– a one-year Ontario College Certificate or two-year Ontario College Diploma program that prepares students for other college programs or university admission. While completing one or both levels does not guarantee admission to postsecondary programs, General Arts and Science graduates are given additional consideration on a course-by-course basis. These programs also give students an opportunity to study at a post-secondary level and to fill gaps in their academic history. There are four options offered through this program:
– a one-year Ontario College Certificate program designed for students who speak English as a second language. This program provides international students with the opportunity to improve their language skills before entering university or college career programs. This program is open to domestic students who are citizens, permanent residents or refugee claimants, and International students in Canada on a visitor’s visa.
General Studies Major – designed for students who need additional academic preparation for college or university entrance Liberal Studies Major – designed for students who are preparing to enter university with transfer credit (please see the specific articulation agreements with UWO and McMaster) Film Studies Major – designed for students who wish to pursue a career in filmmaking and to prepare students for further film studies, especially Fanshawe’s Advanced Filmmaking program
Media and Design Fundamentals Major – designed for students who wish to pursue a career program in media or design
Human Services Foundation – a one-year Ontario College Certificate program. This preparatory program provides a broad education in understanding human behaviour and serves as a foundation to prepare you to enter a career program in human services. Courses include: Preparation for Helping, Special Populations, Issues in Human Services, Health Issues and Introductory Psychology and Sociology. There is a field placement with an agency. The Human Services Foundation program is an excellent way to establish a record of post-secondary success in preparation for a career in the Human Services career programs. Completion of this program does not guarantee admission into the Human Services career programs but will give you additional consideration.
Pre-Health Science – a one-year Ontario College Certificate program. With a focus on the science foundations necessary for success in health care disciplines, you will gain an appreciation of professional roles and responsibilities. Pre-Health Science students who achieve a ‘B’ in every course are eligible for admission consideration to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) collaborative program with Fanshawe College and The University of Western Ontario; students who excel in the Pre-Health Science program are also positioned to apply for any Fanshawe College Health Science career program. The Pre-Health Science program is an excellent way to establish a record of post-secondary success in preparation for a career in Nursing and/or the Health Sciences.
