Farah Shoukry, B.Sc. Architectural Engineering 2012, is an emerging Egyptian artist. Despite her architectural background and interest in the history of Islamic art and urban design; art has always been her favorite hobby growing up. From the age of 5 till 15 she has been tutored by Laila Hindy, a well established Mexican-Egyptian cosmopolitan artist based in Cairo. Her painting style falls somewhere between impressionism and abstract realism. A distinguishing feature is her love for bright colors and repetitive compositions. She held her first exhibition at the Cairo Opera House 16th September 2017; followed by another two solo exhibitions in 2018 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Art CafĂŠ - Maadi, and Mivida Club House.

What is it, to paint? It is to creatively dream on paper, and let go of the colors to do the work. It is the conscious - and unconscious emotional memory escalating into a free form of visualization. The more truthful a painting, the less edits are there to 'perfect' the self projection. To paint, is to free the soul from all unanswered questions, imaginary burdens, and silent troubles. To paint, is to dance to transcending music, and create a path for light to reach home. Painting is another way of living. To paint, is to feel alive. Farah Shoukry, 2018.

I find acrylic paintings an appropriate medium to express myself. Acrylics translates to bold colours, speed, fluidity, a rich texture, and flexible techniques; and thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s how I got hooked.

My first commissioned work every since I re-discovered my painting flair – December 2016 - was the Starry Night of Van Gogh. I was taken away by Van Gogh’s thick paste of clear contrasting curves which was his way of depicting beauty around him. An impressionist. A marvellous person inside out. His letters with his brother says it all... I left him a note when I visited his museum in Amsterdam, making a wish that I’d paint again. Happy that I did. Blessed that it came true.

On art and expression: Art is a form of expression, no doubt about that. Even though the theme of the painting may cover-up the intent; the brushstokes, the color palette, and the composition reveal the soul of the painting. The most intimate of paintings, are those of self-expression. No theme to cover them up. And I bet they will be rarely on display in galleries in the life-time of the artist. Self-expressive art, is the most vulnerable, yet the most beautiful of human creation. And I'm not talking about selfportraits. Rather, I'm talking about the paintings with messages that can only can be explained by the artist, in which no art historian can have a right guess. Technique, quality and maturity are not the criteria for judgement. It is the emotional projection that sets it apart; for the untold stories are the most pure. The most truthful of paintings, are those that leave your curiosity forever unanswered.

Acknowledgments I owe this art to my family and friends' support, and of course to my one and only Laila El Baradei; my mother. My mom is my biggest supporter, a very truthful critic - which sometimes collides with the artist's ego, my innermost inspiration and the color in my paintings. Simply, she's the reason behind my art. In a more literal sense, my second half Nawara Shoukry, makes sure she marks most canvases with her graceful brush. She calls it 'the touch,' bragging about her foresight in case the painting becomes a masterpiece someday. My father inspired most of the paintings through his diverse passions. Whether it is cotton fields, or the people of Sudan, or his love to the sea: fishing, shipping and boats. My brother Mohamed Shoukry, the business mastermind with a brilliant eye for detail, makes sure I am going well with my painting addiction. He reminds me to slow-down and look again and not to fly too much with color. Fayrouz â&#x20AC;&#x201C; my niece, and the beautiful mother of Fayrouz - Maha Mekkawy,

are the real models behind the lady photos. They speak for all of us ladies on grace and beauty - inside-out. Nana Aida Hegazy, my Queen, the Queen, truly blessed to be your grand-daughter. May we always stand up to your expectations impossible - and for you to shine our world. My family support team: the angel of this earth Heba Magdy Safwat who bares a very paranoid family. Deal with the everyday like an artist. Simply, be spontaneous. Don't be afraid of doing mistakes because you get to choose what kind of spilt paint you'd like to keep. Be creative.
