classed as carbon-neutral renewable energy.

Why choose Biomass? Wood is one of the most natural and sustainable fuel sources available to us. It has a carbon neutral cycle as it releases about the same amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere through burning, as it absorb during the growth process. Other benefits include: •
Government subsidies are available
•
Significant savings on fuel costs, compared to oil and LP gas
•
Reduced carbon footprint & lower CO2 emissions
•
Environmental and social benefits including burning wood that may have been otherwise sent to landfill sites
•
Green energy finance options and solutions available
Renewable Heat incentive (RHI) The UK government has introduced the RHI scheme to encourage commercial and residential property owners to switch to heat generated by renewable sources. These subsidies are paid to qualifying biomass installations and payments are made on a quarterly basis.

Fuel and usage Each domestic unit houses a substantial integral pellet store, which has automatic feed that makes it easy to load using standard 10kg to 15kg pellet bags. A simple regular check of the combustion chamber to remove ash is recommended to ensure continual smooth running of the system. The main ash pan also requires cleaning every 46 weeks (lower ash pan once a week) to ensure optimum performance. 6mm approved premium pellets are recommended with moisture content below 10%. High quality pellets have a low ash content (max 0.5%) meaning good combustion, minimum ash production and less wastage as a result. Pellets should be stored in a dry area free from humidity. A typical 15kW unit required re-fuelling every 4-7 days dependent on usage, fuel quality and maintenance.
Fuel storage & supply For larger scale installations a separate pellet store is worth considering. Pellet fuel storage and transportation options are just as important a consideration when deciding on which Biomass Boiler to choose. Should additional pellet storage be required, a variety of storage solutions, are available.
Auger systems A popular alternative is ‘auger feed’ a long tube which can be flexible that rotate pellet through the system via an internal helical screw blade. Augers can be specifically designed to

The Vacuum system The Vacuum system is ideal for automatic transportation from bulk hopper store to boiler. The system uniquely removes dust from pellet fuel before delivering pellets to the burner ensuring trouble free operation.

What is a Biomass Boiler? A biomass boiler is a large boiler designed to burn solid fuels such as wood pellets, wood chips or logs.

exchanger between the biomass boiler and the existing heating system as many biomass boilers operate at a higher temperature.
How is a Biomass Boiler controlled? Biomass Boilers can be controlled based on heat demand. Mineralisation of emissions requires carefully controlled combustion for which a sensor in the flue monitors excess oxygen level to enable combustion to be optimised.
What maintenance does a Biomass Boiler require? Bi annual servicing visits are highly recommended so that inspection of the boiler and fuel feed system, lubrication of bearings and a general visual inspection is carried out. It is also recommended to invest in a flue brush to clean the flue tubes should if you have purchased a Biomass Boiler without an automatic flue cleaner.
Where do I store wood fuel? Domestic Biomass Boilers with a boiler feed hopper can store the wood fuel in any dry shed or building. Most automatically fed boilers require a fuel silo attached to the boiler house. On the smallest automatic pellet boilers, fuel can be stored away from the boiler and extracted from the silo and delivered to the boiler by a vacuum conveying system or by hand.
