Jannat Meaning of death in islam. The common belief in islam is that the present life is a trial in preparation for the next realm of existence. The prophet said, “Live in this world as though you are a stranger or a traveller (passing through it). “
Significance of Burial.
Gardens with geometric patterns.
The practice of burial has a certain significance. It is believed that once a being does not have life in him anymore the soul leaves the body and the body must go where it belongs, back to earth. Once the soul has left the body, we pray for the souls journey to heaven or paradise also known as ‘Jannat’. The design of the cemetery aims to give the feel of paradise on earth so the place the journey of the soul begins is a pleasant one.

Significance of Geometric motifs. Geometric motifs were popular with islamic artist and designers in all parts of the world, for decorating almost every surface, whether walls or floors, pots or lamps, book covers or textiles. As islam spread from nation to nation and region to region, Islamic artists combined their penchant for geometry with existing traditions, creating a new and distinctive islamic art. This art expressed the logic and order inherent in the islamic vision o f the universe.

Such islamic patterns re integrated into the design of the cemetery to decorate the cemetery as well as reflect islam’s interpretation of earth and bring the earthly elements closer to the dead.

Location - Ann Siang Hill is a small hill, and the name of a road located in Chinatown within the Outram Planning Area in Singapore and historical site of Anglo-Chinese School. The road links Club Street and Ann Siang Road to South Bridge Road. Ann Siang Road connects Ann Siang Hill to Kadayanallur Street. Named after Chia Ann Siang (1832 - 1892) who was a businessman, both the roads are situated atop a hill known as Ann Siang Hill and lie within the Central Business District.
Concept - The concept of this project is to replicate the game of five stones on Ann Siang Hill taking people down the memory lane while they walk through the corridor formed between five huge stone structures that resemble the five stones used in the game.
The Idea - Five triangular stone structures just like the ones used in the game were imagined to be tossed on Ann Siang hill being the first step of the game. Interesting spaces and corridors were formed between the stones. The five stones were tried to be placed in such a way where visitors and users would enjoy a breath taking view of the sun rise and set on opposite end of the corridor and a spectacular view of the city and chinatown at the south end of the corridor. This allows the corridor to also act as a peaceful viewing deck in the bustling Central Business District.
The Game - Five stones, a popular game linked with Singapore’s history. A game we do not hear about anymore. Five stones is played by 2 or more players, using 5 small triangular cloth bags filled with rice, sand or saga seeds. The object is to complete a set of eight steps. The winner is the one completing a set the most number of tries. The first step of the game involves throwing the five stones . Whilst throwing a stone, pick up one stone and catch the stone in the air before it falls to the ground.

Use and Function - Ann Siang hill is generally used as a corridor connecting Ann Siang Hill to Club street,South Bridge Rd, Kadayanallur Street and a resting spot and shelter from the rain and sun. Along with retaining the existing functionality of Ann Siang hill park, it also serves as an breathtaking viewing deck. Spaces were tried to be created to make the space more functional and usable. Creating corridors and circulation.

STONE STRUCTURE
The ‘five stones’ being the most important element of the project the shape and form of the structure was a essential part of the design. Starting of from the original triangular shape to extending the sides of the triangle continuing into an organic form and eventually a blend of geometric and organic elements resulted in the final form being a four sided hollow structure .

For the visitor to experience the sun rise and sunset from corridors formed between the stone the sun path plays an essential view.. the five stones are placed in such a way that the visitor can see the breath taking view of the sun rise and set from top of the hill.

Under the foot of each ‘stone’ rests a reflective pool mirroring the sky on its still waters bring the sky to the user underground .Stone steps leads the user from the upper open corridor to the reflective pool and the semi open underground corridor.

The Ann Siang Hill area is a quiet enclave amid the hustle and bustle of Chinatown. Meander through brightly coloured shophouses and gain insights into the lives of Singapore's early immigrants. Among the hustle bustle around the hill lies a five stone passage connecting locations at the foot of Ann Siang Hill. The ' five stones ' serves as a corridor bringing you closer to earth and the sky by bringing the sky to you within the five stones through a reflective water pool placed under the foot of each stone.

REFLECTIVE POOL AND UNDERGROUND CORRIDOR Steps from the foot of each stone lead the viewer to the underground corridor. As the visitor start approaching the end of the steps they start seeing a reflection of the sky upon a reflective pool that is positioned exactly perpendicular below the opening of the ‘stone’. This opening acts as a skylight as well as allows the sky to reflect upon the reflective pool.
UPPER CORRIDOR The proposed ‘five stones’ has an upper and lower corridor. The Upper open level serves as a viewing deck and a corridor and steps leading to the lower corridor at the foot of each stone lead to the underground corridor.

A new home at Sea Ranch, a half-century-old enclave of rugged modernist houses on the Northern California coast, captures the spirit of its surroundings.
THE SEA RANCH
something that looks like a small cliff , the house was designed in relation surrounding. A modern coastal house made to give a feel of a floating deck. The house is designed to give a sense of openness using glass facades on all sides of the house also allowing a panoramic view of the sea. Use of materials like glass, concrete, iron give it a modern feel. A pool side sit out gives a view of the sunset. An ideal relaxed evening sit out.

LOCATION The Sea Ranch is a planned unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in Sonoma County, California, United States. The Sea Ranch is located along the Pacific Coast, about 100 mi (160 km) north of San Francisco and 120 mi (190 km) west of Sacramento.
ABOUT Sea Ranch Escape offers a selection of wonderful vacation homes in a variety of settings along the ten miles of the northern California coast that is the Sea Ranch. Stay in one of the magnificent homes and escape from the stress and strain of daily living. Perfect for a family retreat or a secluded hideaway for two kindred souls. Over the years, Sea Ranch has become a destination for architectural pilgrims, attracted by the pastoral modernism of its early buildings. But it’s also a thriving community that gains 30 or so houses each year.

DESIGN Sea Ranch is noted for its distinctive architecture, which consists of simple concrete or timber-frame structures clad in sheet or wooden siding or shingles. The building typology of the Sea Ranch draws on the local agricultural buildings for inspiration, in the way that those buildings are designed to deal with prevailing weather and topography and have a site specific relationship with the landscape. A holiday home with a view of the plains and hills at the horizon. Its designed to be a complete relaxing and comforting holiday home in the country side. Sit outs by the pool and lawn are open so that a panoramic view of the plains and hills can be seen. Use of wood and stone give it a more natural feel to blend in with the surrounding.
RHYTHM IN ARCHITECTURE
LAKE LODGE
LAKE LODGE A getaway home amongst the hills with a panoramic view of the lake amongst the hills. The triangular shaped structures blend in with the surrounding horizon. The landscape goes with flow of the structure facade and the reflection pool at the end of the slopes seamlessly blends into the lake giving he feeling of one whole.
CONCEPT Experimenting with lines and curves in patterns resulted in some unique forms giving it rhythm just like musical notes.

PERSPECTIVE Rhythm gives us a feeling of continuity. Lake lodge express rhythm in its four triangular building structure which becomes part of a rhythmic terrane sloping towards a reflective cool and eventually a lake.

BRIEF BACKGROUND ON DESIGN PROPOSAL
FEATURES OF DESIGN PROPOSAL
The following design is aimed to be a modular elderly housing facility which can be build within existing housing estates which keep the elderly close to their communities,locality and family. This keeps the elderly from being displaced from the place they were originally staying.
1_ Affordable shared studio apartments for elders to take lease in a community like facility.
The proposed facility includes a blend of commercial spaces within the private housing facility yet clearly defining each programmes boundaries. These commercial spaces are strategically placed to bring the basic necessities to the elderly like a hawker center to provide food, retail stories for daily items and a childcare which the elderly could spend their day at. This facility also accommodates a community library, gym, kitchen, clinics and nursing facility at its level one. This would help enhance the social life of the elderly by increasing human contact.This sensory gardens includes water features, flowering plants, edible garden and interactive sculptures to exercise the various senses and let nature play its role in healing.
2_ Sensory garden for the elderly to exercise their senses and free open spaces for multiple uses like festival gatherings and other events and evening gatherings. 3_ A blend of commercial facilities such as retail stores and hawker center to bring the basic necceseties close to the elderly and a child care center for the the elderly to be occupied. 4_ A blend of commercial, community and private facilities makes it an ideal aging in place community home.

FEATURE DESCRIPTION/FUNCTION The proposed facility includes a blend of commercial spaces within the private housing facility yet clearly defining each programmes boundaries. DESIGN TECHNOLOGY To make sure this is a low cost facility to cater to the average middle class as well this facility is proposed to be built with recycled shipping containers and timber. BENEFIT FOR THE SENIORS/ COMMUNITY This facility has a sensory garden for elderly to relax and exercise their senses, a library and gym, clinics and nursing facility, retail stores and a hawker centre. All these would also be open to the community and also bring the necessities closer to the elderly.
