The 34th Waseca Marching Classic is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. New times were established in 2019 to accommodate the schedule of educational clinic requests throughout the day. The Classic Parade will kick off at noon in downtown Waseca. The parade draws thousands from across the region to watch high school marching bands from Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota perform through the streets in competition. Waseca High School’s long history of instrumental music excellence marches through town each September. Spectators and participants savor marching bands, school spirit, community pride and a tradition of excellence. From its inception as part of the 1988 all-school reunion and community celebration, the Waseca Marching Classic band festival has grown to include a 100-unit parade, fi eld show competition at Waseca Junior-Senior High School Stadium, music clinics for participating bands and fi reworks to cap the event. Immediately following the parade, an awards ceremony is held at the Trowbridge Park Bandstand during which parade awards, the People’s Choice Award and Parade Sweepstakes are presented. At 5:15 p.m. the celebration continues at the Waseca Junior-Senior High School Stadium. Participating bands and spectators enjoy a full afternoon and evening of fi eld show routines. Awards include Specialty Awards - Outstanding Drum Majors, Outstanding Horn Line, Outstanding Percussion, and Outstanding Auxiliary, the Herb Streitz Spirit Award, Field Sweepstakes, and the Richard “Butch” Dufault Sweepstakes Award (parade and fi eld). The Waseca High School Marching Jays, as hosts, perform, but do not compete. The Marching Classic is sponsored by Waseca Classic, Inc., and is the combined effort of the Waseca Band Boosters, Waseca Public Schools, Waseca Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Waseca and countless volunteers. The 2020 Waseca Marching Class was held virtually due to COVID-19, but bands were still able to submit a video of its parade routine or field show. These were compiled into one video for the judges to review and critique. The video is available through a lin on the Classic website, free of charge, until Sept. 17, 2021.
