e are so happy to be back, and excited that during this 2021/2022 season we can bring you some of the shows you missed from 2020 as well as some fresh entertainment. In this season guide we showcase our gallery exhibits as well as some of our fabulous art education opportunities made possible by the Minnesota State Arts Board, SEMAC, and generous gifts of businesses and individuals. At the Paradise Center for the Arts, we welcome ALL people to experience the transformative power of the arts. We pride ourselves on being a collaborative center of artistic activity in downtown Faribault. We offer art education, gallery exhibits, and live performances of music, theatre, and comedy for all ages. We are a vibrant hub in our community and a well fueled economic engine for the region. 2020 was a difficult time for all of us, yet like most of you, we used that time to reimagine our possibilities. We did some redecorating, organizing and board restructuring and we created a plan to pay off our mortgage. The “100 Club” is going to allow us to become debt free and thus able to provide free and fee reduced programming for our community. We established an agreement with the City of Faribault to provide the final $250,000 if we can raise the rest of the money by the end of 2021. As of this writing, we have raised over $145,000 and have only $85,000 to go! The generous contributors to the “100 Club” are men and women just like you who understand the value of the Paradise Center for the Arts. Their one time donation of $2,500 allows them to become lifetime members of the PCA, a name plaque on the artwork we will hang in the lobby, notation in this season guide as well as on our website. They also have the distinction of being the folks who will help us to burn the mortgage at a celebration this year, and future annual celebrations to find out more about how we are using our saved funds. Please consider joining this amazing group of people by becoming a member of the “100 Club”. For more information, please contact our Executive Director, Heidi Nelson. Whether you are interested in the live entertainment in our 300 seat auditorium, art education in one of our 4 onsite classrooms, or just a stroll through one of our galleries, we are happy to be the place that this region calls their home for the arts! Welcome Back!

“Present Laughter”

by Noel Coward, presented by the Merlin Players JULY 30, 31, AUGUST 5, 6, 7 AT 7:30PM, AUGUST 1 AT 2:00PM Adults: $17 / 18 & under: $10 Featuring an all-star cast of Michael Lambert, Kim Schaufenbuel, Susan Dunhaupt, Patrick Braucher, Larry Tolle, Stephanie Weiss, Dean Lamp, Faith Jameson, Sam Temple, Marcia Morris-Beck, and Tania Legvold. Talk about a match made in heaven. Michael Lambert and this cast were born to do Noel Coward. “In a vehicle he wrote for himself, Coward was poking mischievous fun at the frothy commercial comedies that were his bread and butter, with their sophisticated repartee, winking sexual shenanigans, luxurious settings, silk dressing gowns and free-flowing cocktails.” Unpacked here over four scenes in two acts covering roughly 10 days, the play charts the escalating chaos Garry whips up around himself as he prepares to leave London to tour Africa with six plays in repertory. Juggling his commitments and keeping his more reckless impulses in check is his long-suffering secretary Monica. But despite the efforts of Monica and estranged wife Liz, whose condescending indulgence toward Garry can’t hide her enduring affection, he gets drawn into the messy intrigues of his inner circle.

motion picture, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Rogue Valley Chris Koza SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 20 AT 7:30PM Member: $20 / Non-Member: $25 / Student: $15

Rogue Valley is a group from Minneapolis, Minnesota, whose music is rich in tone and texture in ways inspired by the landscape and history of the region. Crater Lake was the first of four albums self-released by the band. Songwriter/Composer Chris Koza wrote the album as an ode to Spring - and to be the first in a four-part series of full-length albums navigating the terrain of love, loss, and wanderlust, and each marked by the changing Seasons. Following Crater Lake, Rogue Valley (at that time comprised of drummer Luke Anderson, bassist/vocalist Linnea Mohn, guitarist/vocalist Peter Sieve, and keyboardist Joey Kantor) recorded and released three more fulllength albums; all in the span of a single year. With Summer came The Bookseller’s House; with Autumn: Geese in the Flyway. And with Winter the band completed their concept-album-cycle with False Floors. performed by three alumni of Dudley Riggs Brave New Workshop, as well as a live, 6-piece band featuring one of the Twin Cities’ favorite front men, Mick Sterling, and A Brave new Workshop’s musical director, Peter Guertin. She quickly gained the attention of the local Twin Cities music scene by taking stages in the several projects and bands she formed over the years. The most successful being her rock band, Scarlet Haze, which went to open for Bon Jovi, amongst working with some of the music industry’s most well-known acts.

Piano Man FRIDAY, JANUARY 7 AT 7:30PM Member: $20 / Non-Member: $25 / Student: $15 The music Chris produces is rooted in Americana but heeds its own spirit. Born out of the folk, country, storytelling and rock ’n roll, Chris both honors and builds on Americana traditions by incorporating a unique pop-music sensibility, subtle synthesizers, rich harmonies, and imaginative production choices. But despite late-night deep dives in the studio, Chris never strays from the core of the song itself and isn’t afraid to let a raw vocal and woodsy acoustic guitar deliver the story.

Roy Orbison Tribute SATURDAY, JANUARY 15 AT 2PM AND 7:30PM Member: $20 / Non-Member: $25 / Student: $15 After decades of performing from his home in Minnesota, to his 5 years in LA, 4 years in Texas, periodic singer songwriting - recording and performing in Nashville, to NYC... from piano bars and solo shows to duo, trio and The David K Band in the Twin Cities... rendering an awesome tribute to Roy Orbison has become an exciting new and growing popular endeavor. “Having listened and learned the operatic and dramatic tunes, to his be-bop 50s, to Roy’s rockabilly, then the songs in

films like Blue Bayou, In Dreams and Pretty Woman, it still isn’t over. Then there’s Roy’s comeback with his album Mystery Girl produced by Jeff Lynne of ELO, who he then co-wrote the hits of the Traveling Willburys with Dylan, Harrison, Petty and Jeff... the excellence is unending.” As obvious as it is that Roy went too soon, his songs can live on. We hope you come to celebrate this awesome tribute to a true legend. Join David K as Roy Orbison on a sweet dream, a step back in time along the path of one man’s career, a man who had a tragic but resilient life. “Roy said, yes that he had tragedy, but he says he had faith, a strong faith, good friends, and his music... his purpose, music, that got him through. Let’s all remember those three things.” We hope you’ll come enjoy the history, the music and the passion that still lives in this music. - David K
