I am excited for every year. We have a great group of kids that we expect to go out and compete every night. Needless to say a different look to our team from the past couple seasons. Despite what we graduated our standards are high and where we expect to finish by the end
of the season does not change.
The Big 9 will always be gauntlet to compete in with lots of quality teams, players and coaches...and our section with Lakeville North, South and Farmington will be one of the toughest in the state once again. However, we still expect to compete in the top half of conference and section play. The difference is our learning curve this year is greater with how “green” we will be. Our hope/expectation is to see a ton of growth over the season and be at our best in February and March.

Brady Kittelson (So.)Brady returns this season after starting the majority of games as a freshman. He is an athletic guard who is typically defending the opposing teams best player.

Gabe Hein (Jr.) - Gabe will be another one of our top playmakers and uses his length to his advantage defensively.

in 3 point and FT percentage and he will be our best shooter. Landon will be a secondary ball handler and secondary scorer off the dribble. Casey is a shutdown defender who will be a great 3 and d guy. We have 2 guys that will rotate in the post and great
body down low and will be one of our top rebounders this season.

This years team will be very young and will lack varsity experience. One of our biggest strengths this season will be our athleticism. Our keys to a successful season will be to limit the amount of times that we turn the ball over.
The Gopher Conference this year will be very competitive. The two teams who I think will be the
complimentary pieces off the bench for good subs.
Austin and Connor should be on the radar for all conference players. Landon is important for another guy that can
handle the ball and score on his own. Casey will surprise people with how good he is on defense.

We have only three
returning players with varsity experience so a lot of new players will step into bigger roles. With a lot of inexperience going into the season we will looking improving throughout the season. We always want to be to the top of the standings in the gopher conference and the section.
Those are the expectations every year.

Senior posts Justin Terwedo and Jack Steinborn will be looked upon to contribute inside. Senior guards Bryson Steinborn, Ben Brahee and Riley Theleman will compete for playing time on the perimeter. I also expect sophomore Brody Berndt to step in and play a key role this season. Our junior group of Logan Feeney, David King, Kyan Straub and Connor Schultz has come a long way the past couple of years and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them are able to contribute. I also wouldn’t rule out some sophomores playing some key minutes
this season if they are able to work hard and get used to varsity competition.
Last year we finished with an overall record of 14-13 and lost in the sub section semifinals to Belle Plaine. We were 6-6 in the conference, which was a tie for fourth place. We lost four starters to graduation last year - David Gupton, Nathan Gregersen, Gage Bishop and Dylan Kahlow - along with Jacob Stolley and Zach Rojas. There are a lot of minutes to be replaced. I expect our returning letterwinners to play some key roles this season. We have a lot of kids out this year - 24 in grades 10-12. There will be plenty of opportuni-
ties for kids to step up and fill those minutes and the shoes of the seniors who graduated.
Our main goal is to just get better every day. We will be an inexperienced team this year so there most likely will be some bumps in the road as we begin the season. We will need to stick together and play for each other to get us through those and minimize the negative impacts. Learning from those tough times will only make us better and we hope to be playing our best basketball at the end of the season. Competing for a conference title and hosting a
playoff game will always be some of the goals we have coming into a season.
Practice overall has gone pretty well so far. As with the start of most seasons, there are some highs and lows in practice. But the boys all work very hard day in and day out for the most part. I would actually say that might be our biggest strength. We have a lot of players who really work
hard and give great effortwe just need to contain that in some situations and use it to our benefit in the most effective way. I also think our perimeter play will be a strength for us this year. Going into the first game of the year is always an anxious time, just the unknown of how we will perform. But I am definitely excited for it and I am looking forward to this season with this group of kids.
I expect the conference to be much more competitive top to bottom this year. I think NYA, Lester Prairie and Belle Plaine to be at the top of the conference. But I also think those teams that finished at the bottom last year to be much improved this season. Glencoe Silver Lake will probably be the favorite in our sub section but again, I do expect that to be much more competitive this year.

The Titans are coming off of a tough season that resulted in a total of three wins, and a total of two conference wins.
Losing many battles by a small margin, the Titans basketball squad was a competitive team, but had a tough time winning close games and finding success when it truly mattered. The Titans ended their season by having an early exit to the 2022 Section 2AA playoffs, losing to Belle Plaine 82-45.
2022 Graduates: Jesus
We are very optimistic for our upcoming season. Graduating 4 total seniors, with three of those being players who had substantial playing time, we have lots of players returning that have either had large roles on the team, or have at least had a taste of what competitive varsity basketball is all about. We are doing our best to focus on what we are trying to accomplish right now, and to grow as players and the team that we currently have. We will not be projected to have major success in our conference or section by others in our conference or section. However, we believe that we can be competitive in our conference and section, even though there are several team within both that are very

If we could have a top half finish within our conference and section, it would be an improvement to where our program has been for a while, so that is our minimum goal.
I expect that the rest of the conference figures that we will finish at or near the bottom of the conference, and have an early first round exit from the playoffs again. We really think that we can compete with any of the teams in our conference or within our section, and if we play consistently and to our best ability, we will have a chance every single night. We expect the top competitors in the conference to be NorwoodYoung America and Mayer Lutheran, and Maple River and Glencoe Silver Lake in the section, even though there are many other solid teams within both. Josh Bosacker - Josh is another key returner to our team who brings toughness to our team on both ends. He can score inside and out and can guard the other team’s best player.
Peyton Odland - Peyton has varsity experience and is at his best pushing the ball in transition. He has a knack for finding the open man and creating for others.
Ashton Volk - Ashton is a returning guard who brings energy and is a vocal leader for our team.
Kaedan Guida - Kaedan is a great athlete and at 6’4” can make plays on both ends of the floor. He can score from all three levels and we are excited to see how much he improves as the season progresses.
Sam Moelter - Sam is a leader on the floor, makes good decisions, and knows how to get the best out of his teammates.

Tate Olson - Tate is our leading returning scorer
Jerry Soderlund - Jerry is a sophomore who has worked incredibly hard at his game and can flat out shoot the ball from three.
Luke GilbertsonLuke is an athletic wing player that helps our team rebound, score, and defend.
Noah Spessard - Noah is a senior big who can rebound and defend and score inside.
We graduated seven seniors from last year’s team and they did 70% of the scoring. They were a tight knit group that elevated our program with their leadership, togetherness and commitment to a team first attitude
This team has goals of competing at a really high
level against the toughest schedule we have ever had. 18 of our 26 games are against AAA or AAAA teams which is more than we have ever had. We realize we are a young and inexperienced team but this group showed through the summer the ability to play at a high level when clicking on all cylinders.
The conference favorite would have to be New Ulm. They return three key starters and look to build off their conference championship and section title appearance last season. The section favorite is Mankato East, they are a very talented and deep team that can really shoot the basketball.
If we come together as a team, this group has the ability to play fast in transition, score a high percentage from three and play aggressive defense that could give teams fits at the end of the season.

The Big 9 conference is always tough. There seems to have been a decent amount of senior turnover at some of the top placing schools in the Big 9. With that being said, our goal is to win the conference and be playing our best basketball heading into a very tough section that includes both Lakeville schools and Owatonna. Our mindset is to work hard, dream big and set our focus on finding a way to reach the State Tournament.

Many quality seniors graduated from our Conference last year, so this season we will see a lot of new faces. It’s difficult to say who the favorites will be, but Mayo, Austin, East, West, Red Wing will all be strong again this season.

Anna Pauly – Senior –F/C – Anna is a 3-time letter-winner and worked very hard in the offseason to prepare for the upcoming season. She is a strong post-player who played some very important minutes for us last season. She led the Gopher Conference in blocks as a junior and was third on the team in scoring and rebounding. She recently committed to Dakota State to play basketball next season.
Haven Carlson – Senior – F/C – Haven had a breakout year last season in her first varsity action. She was named Honorable Mention All-Conference while putting up solid numbers (Second on team in scoring, rebounding and blocks). Her length allows her to change many shots in her area and gives her a big advantage on the glass.
Chloe McCarthy – Senior – G/F – Chloe had an outstanding year a season ago as a junior. Defensive-
ly, she uses her long arms and athleticism to guard all five positions.
Addison Doocy – Junior – F – Addison had a great year last season as a sophomore. She played in every game and was a key contributor. She is a smart player who understands the game very well. She is a strong rebounder, solid defender, and a very good passer.
Shawntee Snyder –Junior - G/F – Shawntee is a player who coaches love to have on their team. She competes on every possession and will always hustle after loose balls and rebounds. She was 2nd in the conference in rebounding last year despite playing primarily on the perimeter.
Macy Lembke – Junior –G – Macy was a perimeter threat for us in addition to a backup ball handler last year. She has a nice shot and can also penetrate into the lane. She will be counted on to handle a lot of the ball-handling load this season.
While we do have six returners coming back this season, there are some newcomers who will be competing for playing time and some important roles on the team. Those newcomers include: Seniors Abby Smith and Madelaine Stoen; Juniors Hailey Schumacher, Shanna Halverson, and Sienna Fyksen; Sophomores Ella Smith and Catelyn Bartlett; Freshman Claire Schwarz.
Last year we were 15-11 overall with a 10-6 record in the Gopher conference, which was good for second place in the East Division. We lost in the Section quarterfinals against Caledonia.
We are a group that gained a lot of experience last year with six returners who played extensive minutes a year ago. We had a very good summer as a group and we hope to have some of that success carries over to the season. We have good numbers out this year in grades 9-12 and practices have been really good. It is always fun to go to the gym and have a team that wants to get better and is willing to work. Our focus to start the year will be to get everyone on the same page and get comfortable with new and/or expanded roles. While many of them played last year, this year the expectations and roles are very different for many of them. Obviously, replacing players of the caliber that we lost to graduation will be difficult and then adding to the challenge our move to class AA. However, this group has a lot of potential and our focus of getting better each day should lead to a successful season.
Hayfield has to be the overwhelming favorite to repeat this season as Conference Champions. Randolph and Triton look to be also solid in the East
Division. The West Division will be a three-way battle between NRHEG, Maple River and WEM. The Section (1AA) will be interesting this season. The Section is always tough with some of the best teams in the state in our area. Caledonia, Rochester Lourdes and Goodhue seem to be the favorites coming into the season. However, a team like PEM or Cotter could definitely be dangerous in the playoffs.

Rhyan Fritz (12) is a great outside shooter and commands the court, Madi Wilbright (12) can shoot and drive and
is a quick defender, Ava Wagner (12) has a huge presence inside, knows the game really well & can score inside and outside, Lexi Terwedo (12) has a nice outside shot and can fly up and down the court on fastbreaks, Brynn Biedscheid (11) has a nice jumper, can rebound well & can shoot from the outside, Morgan Gregersen (11) can put the ball on the floor to score layups & gets herself in position to rebound. Kelsey Wetzel & Naima Bravo will also see significant playing time this year.
There are some very athletic young players that
will see significant time on the C team to start the year, but will hopefully make their way to Varsity minutes by the end of the season. Teagan Graham (8) does a nice job in the paint, Tori Hutton (8) can handle the ball and is a good outside shooter, Anyssa Christ (10) is quick up and down the court and looks to get the ball any chance she can, Jo Kruse-Geifer (10) is quick up and down the court and is a great rebounder.

Rhyan Holmgren, Jr - three year letterwinner who has a lot of varsity experience. Averaged 20 points and five rebounds per game as a sophomore. Has improved her ballhandling over the
offseason so excited to see how that transitions this year.
Annika Southworth, So – one year letterwinner. Annika averaged 14 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists last season. She shot the ball at a 40% clip from the 3-point line last season. We are looking for her to increase her assist and steal totals this season while remaining a scoring threat.
Abby Maloney, JR –three Year letterwinner.
Abby is a versatile player that can score form the inside and also has the ability to shoot the three. She averaged 5.5 pts per game and 4.5 rebounds per game last year. I am expecting her to increase these averages this year.

Maddie is a player that has the ability to do a little bit of everything on the basketball court. She is a player that should fill
the stat sheet for us this year. We are expecting her scoring to increase this year as she become more comfortable getting to the basket.

The goal for this year’s team is to win the Conference Championship and get to the Section Championship game. We are going to need to stay healthy this season to make this a reality. We are also going to see which girls step up to provide some depth and valuable minutes to our team.
Our Section and conference is very tough and any team from top to bottom could knock each other off any night. There are no games where you can assume you are going to win. This is what makes basketball fun and each game entertaining.
Our Conference has changed formats this season. There is a big,
medium, and small school division. St. Peter is in the big school division with Marshall, Worthington, and New Ulm. We will play each of these teams twice throughout the season. We will play the other teams that used to be in our East side 1 time each. This is a new format so excited to see how that works out.
I would say in the section, Marshall has to be the favorite. They return most of their team from last years dection runner-up team. They have a lot of
deniors that will be playing which is also an advantage. I do feel any team in our section could win on a given night so anything can happen in our section this season.

We were a young team, losing only two seniors to graduation.

This season we look to capitalize on a vast number of players who gained valuable Varsity experience as underclassmen last year. We will have capabilities of filling the net up with a lot of pucks if our small roster
can stay healthy. Finishing in the upper-middle of the Big South Conference looks to be attainable, and if the stars align, we could be very competitive with those considered to be Conference favorites.

We have a few guys who I think will step up this year. Starting with our forwards Diego Hettig, Drew Simonette and Judson Narum. On defense we have Ethan Hathaway, Hayden Stensrud and Isaac Schaffer. All of these guys saw playing time last year and through the first two weeks they all are playing well in practice.
We have a couple of sophomores on Varsity who I expect to have an impact in Kaden Throldahl and Josiah
Juarez. Both are forwards who work hard, aren’t afraid of physical play.
Last year we went 5-20-1 overall and 3-12-1 in the conference.
We were the No. 9 Seed in Section playoffs and lost in the first round to Fairmont.
This year we are asking the boys to show up everyday, give their maximum effort, always be positive and to be respectful. We are confident that if they do this the on ice results will come.
Right now the Big South runs through New Ulm. They haven’t lost a conference game in over two years and they always put a good team on the ice. After New Ulm I think Luverne and Marshall are two teams that will be at the top of the Big South. In the section Mankato East was the section champion last year and will be one of the top teams again along with New Ulm, Luverne and Marshall.

We are looking for a great season from Oliver Linneman. Ollie has been a key player in our offense for the last
couple of years and we are expecting more of the same this year. We are also looking towards David Nesburg, he is one of our senior defensemen who brings a lot of physicality and speed to the team on the back end.
Senior goaltender Jacob Sherf is a new senior goaltender. He is 6’2 and very agile. We expect him
to see and stop a lot of pucks this year.
Last year we went 10-16 and we got beat in the first round of sections by New Prague. In the conference we finished 6th.
Our biggest goal is to finish the season above .500 and finish in the top half of the section and conference. We believe we have the ability to compete with anybody,
it’s a matter of going out and doing it each and every game. Consistency may be one of the hardest things to achieve in high school hockey, but we are up for the challenge.
Our team did not lose many seniors last year which in our opinion makes us stronger. Some of the favorites in the conference are Mayo and Northfield, and in the section New Prague and Northfield. Those will be
tough games for us but we are up to the challenge.
We have 5 Seniors and 22 guys on the team. It’s huge for us to have 2 goaltenders. Only having 5 seniors is both good and bad. Meaning we won’t lose many players but we are fairly young. 8 Letter winners from last year.

are all big pieces that are returning this season. While Ezra, Samantha, and Molly have led our offense the past few years.
Ezra has over 150 points in her career. Samantha and Molly are both looking to get to 100 points each. Abby and Sarah have been on our blueline together since eighth grade and are now going into their senior season. Abby could become Owatonna’s alltime leading scorer for defensemen this season.
Kendra Bogen came in as an eighth grade defensemen last season and put up 18 points on the year.
Izzy Radel - Will be stepping into a bigger role in the offense this season. Ava Stanchina - Moved from Northfield, and will look to produce on either of our top two lines this season.

We have some younger girls who have really stepped up this season. Mckenna Andresen is someone to watch for. Last year at U12 she was a key component and
this year we are counting on her to help move the puck around. Noelle Simonette is another 8th grade who we will be relying on during most varsity games. Last year Macey Portner was someone who we relied on and as a 9th grader she is someone who we are hoping will be a leader to our younger girls. Callie Voetlz, Makenna Mueller and Zetta Haugen are 3 returning Juniors. We are hoping
to help us out in our D zone and get pucks to the net. Lastly our captains Adrianna Bixby and Sophie Wilson are two seniors that we really are relying on to show the younger girls the bulldog way. Last year we lost 12
seniors.
Annika Magelee, our freshman goalie, is someone who has already stepped up this season.
She has had some amazing saves already.

106 will have either Caley Graber or Matthew Dettling. Whichever one wins will be solid for us at 106. Matthew is a tough junior at a low weight and Caley is a female wrestler who has won many national tournaments. When she heals up it should be a good wrestle off.
120 Zane Engels is one tough 8th grader that has wrestled his whole life. This is his first year in the varsity room but I am expecting big things from him
170 Colin Staab should have a good season as well. He was undefeated in JV last year. He was behind two very good state entrants last year.

We won the conference (10-0), We won the section for the 3rd time in 4 years. We were consolation state champions (5th place) for the 2nd time in 4 years. Our season record from last year was 28-4.
We are a young team but a very solid team. The preseason rankings have us ranked #4 in the state. We have some work to do to live up to that but I feel we will be contending for another section title and hopefully place at state again.
I believe we will be competing with Faribault and Rochester Mayo
for the section title this year. As for the conference I believe it is a 4 horse race between us, Faribault, Rochester Mayo, and Albert Lea (in our conference but not section).

We are expecting to make a strong attempt at regaining a top three in the conference. We are hoping to learn from our setbacks from last season, and have a winning season this year. Our team’s strength comes from one senior and two juniors, who have been competing at the varsity level for several years. We had a decent season last year, and we are optimistic
that we can be strong again this year because we brought almost everyone back. We are a bit older and more experienced from our last season, and ready for competition. Our main issue will be maintaining a full lineup as we have several wrestlers in the same weight range.
Being able to get athletes to wrestle full matches. Last season our downfall was giving up too many bonus points. If we can eliminate that we will be much more competitive. Also taking risks to score points in situations where we have been tentative
in the recent past. If we focus on scoring instead of the winning and losing, the wins should come as a result.
The Medford Tigers are probably the favorites in the section. KenyonWanamingo, Maple RiverUSC, and Westfield will all be in the mix.
Section or district favorites: Medford is probably the team to beat in our section, however, Maple River/USC and Westfield are going to be strong contenders as well.

We finished the 2021-2022 season with a tough dual meet record. Most matches we wrestled with at least four open weights. Team sections we even wrestled with five open weights. These young men had to continuously get moved around to different weights so we could try our best to make a full line-up. Going into section individuals we did not get the seeds
that we hoped for so many wrestled drew a tough start to the tournament and in Section 1 now all competitors are top notch. We did not however, qualify anyone for state last season.
For the 2022-2023 season I think that our outlook is great. Our “Motto is do the Work.” We have a couple injured athletes currently. So, we need all returning athletes and new athletes to help step up and push their peers. However, I know already that we may
have a few open weights in our roster. Everyone is aware though that we must wrestle at 110% pushing to become the best and make the best of our season.
The competition in our conference and section is both very good. We will be wrestling with teams like Blue Earth, New Ulm, Marshall, and Fairmont Martin County West in our conference. Those are all great teams that defeated us last season. Then in our new section, section one we will be wrestling
against Kasson, Byron, and Plainview-Elgin Millville who are all either ranked in the state or are teams that are consistently great. So our Waseca wrestlers know they need to perform at their best.

Brady Murphy was an undersized 106 pounder who challenged even some of the top contenders in his weight class. Anyone who watches him knows there is a lot of potential that we are looking forward to unleashing once again as he is now a freshman and a FULL 106 pounds.

Carson Petry achieved All-State Status by placing sixth at the Minnesota State High School league tournament last season in his freshman campaign. He has put in additional work in the offseason and we look forward to seeing how far he can go this season.
participant in 2022. He had a phenomenal freshman season at the heavyweight division but finished just outside of the All-State status. He went 2-2 at the Minnesota State tournament which left a sour taste in his mouth and a desire to improve.
Cahill, Krause and Morsching also had good seasons a year ago and crossed the threshold of becoming consistent winners in the lineup.
A season ago we did see a change in the way we competed. When we were outmatched the guys continued to fight for the other guys. A culture shift has taken place with the student athlete leaders we currently have in the program. They believe in themselves and are holding each other accountable. This is evident in the morning workouts. Everyone knows the way to get the team better is to improve each individual! We have the
right people in place to help the group control more of the controllables of athletics. Our focus on getting individual gains
throughout the season. Personal growth is the focus from the coaching staff. We expect to challenge and be a factor in both the Gopher Conference and Section final standings.

I am confident we have the best coaching staff in the area when it comes to knowing what it takes to get a team to the next level, having knowledge of the sport and everything in between. Ben Wilson has stepped up to become the assistant coach once again for the Giants. Ben has served many years as assistant in the past under Scott Wilson from 2007-2018 but has been in the room since 2003. He brings many valuable assets to the program and knows what it takes to make tough, elite wrestlers. I am very excited to have him by my side this year.
A big figure coming into
We return a very experienced lineup, with all 14 weights having earned varsity experience last season. This group has been together since elementary school and push each other to be the best they can be daily.

Conference- Fairmont beat us by one in our dual last year, we feel that we can win the Big South East Conference this year. Jackson County Central are the clear favorites
the room this year again is Scott Wilson. Scott was the head coach for the Giants from 2007-2018 but was assistant from 1991-2007. Scott is known to many as the “grandfather” in the room. He brings much experience and has built many elite teams over the years. It will be nice to have some of that old school wrestling back in the room.
Mark Boisjolie (senior). Mark has been a multiyear letterwinner for the Giants. He is lanky, but tough. He has good mat awareness and when he wants to can pull off a mean headlock from nowhere. He has a sincere and true desire to compete. I would say Mark is the underdog, you can never take a second off or you might get tossed to your back. He too is going to be fun to coach because of his reception to the coaching staff and willingness to try things.

Sections- Section 2AA is always one of the toughest in the state. New Prague is the favorite, with multiple D1 commits. Scott West, Watertown-Mayer, and TCU are always tough and will most likely be ranked in the state. Our goal is to qualify for the section finals, and we’ll see what happens from there.

Andy Genelin (senior). Andy has been a part of the wrestling program for many years. Andy is a hard worker and is very determined. He is tall and his length is going to be a real asset for some of the leg rides and turns I am looking to perfect with him. He has also been in the weight room over the summer and has gained tremendous size. Once he believes he is good enough he will be a dominant wrestler to fear.
Wyatt Genelin (sophomore). Wyatt is the kind of competitor that will not stop working until the whistle blows. His body can bend and move in a crazy way which makes him such a tough wrestler to wrestle which in turn makes his style somewhat unorthodox than most people are used to. I always say he would make a good contortionist. He has also added muscle to his frame
over the summer which will help him a lot. Wyatt is always looking for points and I know is going to be eager to take on opponents once our schedule gets underway.
Dalton Wilson (8th grader): Dalton had a very impressive season last year and will be on everyone’s radar. He was the only seventh grader to place at the state tournament which is a crazy feat to achieve at such a young age. He was 106 soaking wet last year while others cut from 120-113lbs so this year he will not be so undersized to the competition. He knows what it takes to wrestle with the elite and is looking to have another state appearance and be a state champion.
We also have a few
returning varsity up and comers such as Peyton Tellijohn (freshmen), George Doherty (freshmen) and Colton Wilson (8). All three saw a number of varsity matches last season and placed high at a tough section tournament. All three have been in the weight room all summer and are looking to dominate on the mat this season. They have a lot of mat time under their belt and as their bodies mature they will continue to be win leaders for the team. They also have been a part of the program since they were young and as a trio are outstanding competitors that are fun to watch.
Potentially we will have a number of them. With such a young team as a coach I want to provide
every opportunity for our wrestlers to have quality matches. I see Luca Greenig (9) seeing more varsity time potentially. He was out most of the season with a knee injury and looking to have a big comeback this season. Nick Larson (8), Andrew Lansing (8), Luke Miller (9) will possibly also see a lot more varsity time. This will all be dependent on getting quality matchups, where our weights fall and how the team molds together. We have a number of seventh graders coming up as well as a few new wrestlers so it’ll be great to have the various levels, personalities and wrestling styles in the room as we grow AS ONE, which is our motto.

Number one goal: As one, As a team. Even though this is an individual sport my goal is to mold the team as one unit. Creating a culture of family, brotherhood is something that strong teams have in the wrestling world, it’s the background I bring from my experience at Augsburg.
Other goals include having a 3.0 GPA as a team for state notoriety through the MN State Wrestling Coaches Association, placing as many wrestlers at the section tournament and taking as many wrestlers to the state tournament as possible. As a team I want to be able to advance far in our section at the end of the year and make it to state
for the first time in school history.
We have a tough section. With teams like Kimball, Howard-Lake and Trinity, there are always high quality wrestlers that come out of those schools. We will be competing in the big Redwood Riot tournament
late December, this will be a good indication on where many of our wrestlers line-up in comparison to section opponents and Class A competition. From a conference perspective, TCU will be back and strong with depth. Sibley East returns a few stateentrant/place winners.

We are also returning three from last year who placed third at individual sections, just one spot away from being a state participant. Look for all of these seniors to make an impact this season!

Every single wrestler works too hard in practice to be overlooked. We have a lot of returning studs to our lineup, look at them to make an impact this year. We will also have some new faces in our wrestling room, we are excited to work with them each day
and help them develop. We lost a couple graduates, Caleb Whipps, Robert Bastyr, and a couple to moving, but we have a handful of incoming seventh graders to keep our numbers in the high 20’s. We have one returning state qualifier, and a bunch more
with a good amount of experience.
Last year we finished 5th in section 2AA Team tournament losing a close 31-30 battle against St. Peter.

This season, we are looking at a wide range schedule from Class A to Class AAA teams. We are excited to have some individual tournaments back in our schedule, such as Redwood Riot (Redwood, MN) and Rumble on the Red (Fargo, ND).

Bella Pressnall, was barely edged out of a state appearance last year by just tenths of a point while also competing with a severe ankle injury so I am excited to see how she will do this season as she is recovered and determined to qualify at state. She also has the potential to be a helpful score in all of our other events as an allaround gymnast. Bella is always working hard and pushing herself to be the best she can be.
Alison Malecha, was awarded all-conference honorable mention last season also among
lingering injuries as well as mental battles with fear. She is coming into this season stronger, healthier, and ready to fight to go all the way. I am excited to already see her overcoming her fears and eager to get back out on the competition floor.
Erika Nesseth, was out last season with an injury all season last year. During her time out she spent a lot of time focusing on bars as that is all she could do in a boot. I am excited to see her be able to compete the skills she has been working and putting things together in a routine.
Larisa Dominguez, was not able to compete at our section tournament last year but was a strong contender on Bars, Beam, and Floor all season for us up until that point. I am excited to have her be able to compete at the section level and see where it can take her.
Emily Conklin, is new to our team this year and has come in with a fearless spirit that is willing to try just about anything I ask her to. She has already gotten new skills on every event and I am excited to see how this work ethic will continue to serve her through our season.

All of our girls are going to be key this year, due to our small number of participants. But Morgan Borchert has gained many new skills over the
summer and has become a true leader on the team. This is her fifth year on the team, and her experience shows.
Abby LiLiberty has a lot of nice skills carried over from her time in club gymnastics.

We placed third in our conference and fourth at sections with an extraordinary score change between the meets. The four top places in sections were all within about a point of each other which means it really could have been anyone meet.
I am hopeful that this season we will be able to get to that point earlier
in the season to instill confidence in the girls as they go into sections. They have a drive and thirst for a state appearance that I haven’t seen in our team over the last couple of years.
It is going to be another tough section. I would argue we have one of the hardest sections in the state and there are multiple teams in 1AA that should be going to state. That being said, that’s

not how it works which means we need to work that much harder if we want that team to be us. You never know what is going to happen at a meet. Owatonna, Farmington, and Nortfield have been teams known to keep it
depending on up until the very last routine. We also have the Lakeville’s that could be potential threats.

Emma Johnson – Emma was part of our team that
broke the school record on floor and threw a career high 9.8 (state record 9.85). She’s a great leader on our team and is one that the coaching staff can count on to be consistent during the got to have it moments. (state all around qualifier)
Averie Roush – AJ is a kid who works extremely hard and because of that has seen some big

improvements this since joining us her eighth grade year. She uses her firey attitude to attack each routine with power and it’s shown in her scores continually creeping up. (state floor qualifier)
Kendra Miller – Ken started the year last year only competing beam for us, but then made her way into more starting lineups as the year went on. I expect her to solidify her spot in the lineups and be a mainstay for her career Delia Neumann – Delia is new this year, but has already impressed with
how quickly she’s been able to get up to the competition level for high school gymnastics. If she continues to clean up some routines, I think she can make a push to be an allstate athlete by the end of the year.

We’d love to push for a winning record as far as the duel meets go. We also have three of the most
competitive invites in the state and to win one of those would cement us as a top team in the state this year. For the postseason, we’ll look to defend our section title for the third year, and take back the conference title.
Mankato West- Only team to have beat us multiple times in the last 3 years (both by breaking their school record). They’ve continually brought great teams and will always be dangerous in any conference duel/meet. Northfield – Northfield always brings a competitive bunch come section time and I don’t expect that to change this year.
Lakeville South – A strong section opponent. We get to see them a couple of times throughout the year, but they’ll be pushing us hard for the section title this year and I expect them to be a top 15 team in the state.

Our JV scored a season high of 118.05 against Windom, almost reaching a team goal of 120. We placed fourth in the Section 2A meet, capping off a really successful season for the Jays.

Junior Haydn Lynch and Freshman Layla Keith earned All-Conference last year as well as All-State Honorable Mention on Floor.
The 2021-2022 Waseca Gymnastics season has been one of solid performance, high level competition and successful meet outcomes. Our team is combined with gymnasts from NRHEG, WEM and Waseca and they come together to form one big team competing on Varsity and JV squads.
Overall, we had a winning season for both squads! In January, our Varsity team outscored eight out of the ten teams they competed against, winning five straight meets in a row.
Our season high score for the Varsity was 133.025 at the MCA Invitational, where we placed second, only losing first place to Jackson by .425. It was our highest team score in the past six years and our best placing at an invitational.
I am really proud of the way we improved last season and came together as a team despite some injuries and adversity. This year we have solid leadership from our captains; seniors Kara Doyle and Katheryn Kofstad and junior Haydn Lynch. They will prove that working hard, and staying consistent in their skills, leads to success in competition. I am looking forward to this season to showcase our talent and be competitive in the conference. We have gymnasts from four different schools and two countries. Inez Sanchez is a foreign exchange student from Madrid, Spain.

We have a lot of talent that is developing. We had a pretty good year last year and many of those swimmers have returned, that means they are bigger, stronger and faster. This should be a pretty exciting year.

As always we expect all of our athletes to work hard,
do the best they can, and get better as the season goes along so that we are our fastest and best at the end of the season.
Because of our low numbers, our focus is always on improving, swimming faster and diving better. The guys always do a great job competing against other teams.
Our goal as always is to improve. We really have done a great job on our goals every year by improving our times in our swimming events and scores in diving.
We are not quite as big and strong as some of the other teams in the Big Nine Conference but can guarantee we will go after all of our meets. Perennially favorites in the Big Nine are Rochester Century, Rochester Mayo, Northfield, and Mankato East. Century won Conference last year by over 100 points.

Boys: It will be a close competition between Northfield, Prior Lake, and Eagan for the conference title. Sam Folland is a strong favorite to win conference as an individual.
Girls: There are some strong girls teams in the South Suburban conference, so Northfield will be looking to improve our standing against strong teams from Eagan/ Eastview and Prior Lake

Dance team is a different beast when it comes to team sports, there is no lead shooter or key defender that can carry the team to victory. The team of dancers who walk out
Honestly, this whole team is amazing but we this group of seniors definitely stand out. They are all amazing dancers as well as leaders.
We have a new dancer that is a senior, Regan Vogelsberg. She is very talented and we can’t wait to see how she will
on the competition floor have to dance as if they were one person. Judges are looking at every detail of your dance. The big details: difficulty of skills, like kick height, turn sets and power in jumps/leaps. Then the small details that set you apart from other teams, where your head is placed for kicks, if your fingertips are together or apart, and if you’re making your hard work look effortless. They have to be precise, powerful and connected. We could have the best turner in the state of Minnesota, but it wouldn’t matter, because if the whole team can’t do those same turns we don’t get any points for it. Our score sheets reflect our weakest link, so it is key to have every dancer dancing at the same level of difficulty as one.

of having our program in Owatonna. Our first year, we really focused on building team culture and having our team understand the competitive nature of the Dance Team. We have seen growth in skills and in overall team culture. Every year, our score sheets have gone up and our dances have become more difficult. Our goal is to keep raising our floor each season, so the Owatonna Dance Team then one day be Conference Champs. Last year we hit our goal and our highest placement in the Conference. We placed fourth in both kick and jazz, which was a huge accomplishment for a newer program as well as a very young team.
We are working towards raising our floor and being in the top 3 this year at Big 9.
The team and coaching staff’s big goal for the team is to place in the top three at Big 9. The Big 9 Dance Team Conference is run differently than any of our other dance competitions. Placements are based off of a combination of both our Jazz Overall Ranking Score and Kick Overall Ranking
