The Faribault Woolen Mill story

Page 1

The Faribault Woolen Mill began carding wool with one horse in 1865.

The year that Abraham Lincoln died and the Civil War ended.

It is the oldest manufacturing company in Minnesota.

Our “new mill was built in 1890 and still resides next to the Cannon River in Faribault, Minnesota.

It is the last remaining woolen mill in America capable of taking raw wool and creating finished woolens, all under one roof.

During WWI and WWII, Faribault made hundreds of thousands of blankets ! for the US Armed Forces,

blankets that we still produce.

In the last half of the twentieth century, the mill was creating over half of the wool blankets made in America.

After closing for two years, the mill was reborn in 2011 under new family ownership.

Skilled, dedicated workers (many with 30, 40 and even 60 years experience) returned and irreplaceable century-old carding machines and looms once again came to life.

Using the rich archives that reach back almost 150 years for inspiration, then carefully updated,

the Faribault line of blankets, throws, scarves, fabrics and accessories

has been embraced by influential fashion editors, ! found in the finest stores and boutique hotels,

and featured in partnerships ! with the most important brands.

Renowned for their comfort and quality, every Faribault woolen good is truly timeless, designed to endure for generations.

While our looms can incorporate cotton, alpaca and cashmere, our namesake and passion is wool, including ultrafine merino.

Natural, renewable, breathable and enduring, wool provides exceeding comfort in all seasons and climates.

Faribault woolens will continue to evolve, with fresh new collections added and new markets served.

But the soul of Faribault will remain.
