2020 Graduates Entrepreneurship

ESP Graduates – While the COVID-19 contagion created a challenging situation for everyone, I know that it has been an especially difficult challenge for you. This is not how you planned for your four years at Miami University to come to an end, finishing spring semester classes remotely. Nonetheless, with graduation on the horizon, this chapter in your life’s journey is coming to an end. The next chapter of your lives begins very soon. Soon you will be a proud Miami alum. As you reflect on your time in Oxford, I want to remind you that you are graduating from one of the top entrepreneurship programs in the country, housed in one of the top business schools in the country, a business school that calls one of the top undergraduate teaching universities in the country its home. You will leave Oxford with more than just a degree in entrepreneurship. You will leave steeped with confidence that you have “experienced” entrepreneurship in uniquely powerful ways. During your four years in the entrepreneurship program, you launched startups and social ventures; worked on solutions to major social problems like infant mortality, opioid addiction and addiction recovery, and food insecurity; made investments in high growth companies and social ventures; celebrated creativity and innovation with entrepreneurs around the world; and completed internships with startups, social ventures, angel groups and venture capital investment firms, startup accelerators and social enterprise organizations, and innovation teams at BigCos across the U.S. No, you have not simply learned about entrepreneurship during your time at Miami, you have learned to do it. You are leaving Miami “job ready, day one” and well positioned for future success. Take what you have learned, pursue a passion, and change the world. It has been a pleasure to spend the past four years together. Remember that you are a member of the Miami entrepreneurship family. Please keep in touch as your careers progress.

Love and Honor, Tim Holcomb
