ABBEY SLURRY TANKERS

Abbey Slurry Tankers are produced by Abbey Machinery in Ireland, who are one of the largest and longest established manufacturers of Slurry Equipment in Europe. With over 30 years’ experience and the very latest hi-tech manufacturing facilities, Abbey are able to ensure optimum levels of performance and reliability to meet the highest standards required by today’s operators.

SPRUNG DRAWBAR (Standard on all SD and Recessed models – optional on Tandems)

Abbey’s parabolic leaf Sprung Drawbar is designed to work when the Tanker is both full and empty and has been tested over many years. It is also designed to greatly reduce stress on both Tractor and Tanker. Recent comments from purchasers are that the Abbey Tanker rides exceptionally well.

BOLTED SWIVEL EYE, SAFETY CHAIN, WINDING JACK

All Abbey tankers come standard with a swivel hitch so the tanker can move over undulating ground easier, a winding jack for ease of hitching and unhitching and a fully safety tested chain and D shackle.

PUMPS

All Abbey Super Tankers are equipped with Battioni pumps, which have a worldwide reputation for high performance and reliability. Safety change-over handle and pressure relief valve are standard on all pumps. Standard tankers are equipped with a 9000 litre per minute pump with optional 11,000 or 13,500 litre pumps available. Auto oiler as standard

DOUBLE TRAP

All Abbey Tankers are fitted with a unique double trap system which prevents the tank from over filling or getting slurry into the pump. All tankers also have relief valves.

PRESSED DOME ENDS

Another Abbey unique feature. The actual end of the Tanker is pressed in to the tank and welded in place. It’s not just a cap that is welded to the edge of the tank. This gives the Abbey Tanker a lot of strength and rigidity when under pressure and is the only slurry tanker on the market with pressed dome ends. Some other manufacturers say they have dome ends but no one else has one pressed into the tank like Abbey.

TANK CONSTRUCTION

6mm steel sheets are butted together and welded. They then go through to the rolling process, are rolled and then welded externally. So all Abbey tanks are welded on the inside and out.

6MM EN 42 STEEL

All Abbey Tankers are constructed using a very high grade 6mm thick EN 42 high carbon steel. Abbey use a high grade EN-42 steel on all tankers which has a very high carbon content to give optimum strength. EN-42 is not a common grade of steel in NZ, although it has been sold over the years. It is a spring steel and has a common term of 1070 which means it has a 0.70% or carbon content. It is an excellent top grade spring steel and almost 30% stronger than a 1055/55kg grade steel. This means they can keep the empty weight down by not having to use heavymild steel to get the strength where it needs to be.

PAINTING/FINISH

All tankers are painted with a thick coat of primer first and baked in an oven at 80 degrees for 30 minutes.

TYRES

All Single axle tankers come with a high flotation 550/60 x 22.5 tyre. (1300, 1600, 1600SD, 2000, 2000 SD). All tyres are rated to 40km/hr. All recessed tankers have huge high flotation tyres which spread the load evenly and give very minimal ground pressure. 28.1 R 26 and 30.5 R 32 are the standard sizes for Recessed tankers. All tandem tankers come with the same tyres as the single axle tankers (550/60 x 22.5); however there is a huge range of tyre options.

SPLASH PLATE

The inverted splash plate which is controlled by a hydraulic heavy duty gate valve, is a unique feature of the Abbey tanker. It is the only tanker in the world to have a splash plate like this. Instead of fanning the slurry into the air, it spreads it down on to the ground in a very even spread over approx. 12m with watery slurry. It doesn’t leave it thicker in the middle like other tankers and because it gets the slurry closer to the ground, you get more nitrogen usage.

FILL POINTS

All Abbey Tankers come with 4 fill points so you can fill from any side of the tanker. (Single axle tankers are supplied with 1 quick attach fitting and tandems are supplied with 2).

QUICK ATTACH FITTING

The Abbey hose quick attach is a very simple system and attaches the hose straight on rather than levering it from one side. This means you get a very tight fit and clamps evenly. Option Autofill is available.

SIGHT GLASS/LEVEL

All Abbey tankers come standard with a rear sight glass and front sight tube which means when filling from the rear, you can see when the tanker is nearly full and when emptying, you can see the level in the tank.

HOSE

All tankers come standard with 2 x 6m (20ft) lengths of 6” suction hose. 8” Hose is optional.

HYDRAULIC BRAKES

All tankers come standard with hydraulic brakes. These work extremely well on hilly conditions. All tankers are also fitted with a handbrake.

BOTTOM OUTLET ATTACHMENT

All tankers are fitted with a 6 bottom outlet attachment. This means that you can completely empty the tank rather than have sediment build up in the bottom.

LIGHTS

All tankers are fitted with full road lights which are rubber mounted to take shock loadings from any uneven ground.

REAR DOOR

All tankers come with a rear inspection door.

AUTOFILL BRACKETS

All Abbey tankers come standard with brackets for the Autofill so you can retro fit this option after sale without any engineering or hassle.

WIDE ANGLE DRIVESHAFT

All Abbey tankers come standard with a wide angle driveshaft so you can spread around corners and turn tight circles with the machine still running.

PARTS BACKUP

Farmgard have an extensive parts and service back up. We stock all common parts, pumps, tyres, rims, pump vanes, brake components and optional accessories for the complete range of tankers.

EXTRA FEATURES ON RECESSED AND TANDEM TANKER RANGE

The Abbey recessed tanker is the flagship of the range. Being the only tanker on the market with a recessed tyre and recessed axle, this makes it the nicest, fastest and smoothest tanker to tow. Abbey also have a large range of Tandem tankers which have similar features to the Recessed range. See below.

CHASSIS STRUCTURE (on both Recessed and Tandem/Tri Axle Tankers)

The Abbey recessed and tandem tankers have a complete full length chassis which acts as a cradle for the tank. It has four points of weld. The outer parts of the chassis have a complete full length weld and the inner has strip welds.

The Abbey is the only tanker on the market to have these four points of weld holding the tank onto the chassis. The way the chassis is holding the tank, means there is no stress on the tanker – see next page for the drawbar.

DRAWBAR (Optional on tandems)

On all the recessed models, they come standard with a sprung drawbar. The sprung drawbar pulls from back up under the tank, by the axle. This means the tank is smooth to pull and tows nicer than a tandem. The drawbar is 10mm box section (Not folded)

On all Abbey tankers, the drawbar is pulling from underneath the tank and not pulling it down at the front. This means you get a lot lower centre of gravity and smoother towing.

RECESSED AXLE (Recessed tankers only)

The heavy duty axle is actually recessed up into the chassis rather than being bolted to the chassis. This lowers the whole tanker giving a far better ride.

INTERNAL RECESS

This is the part of the tank which is the internal recess into the tanker meaning you can get huge flotation tyres while still staying within a 2.5m transport width.

BAFFLES

All recessed and tandem tankers have internal baffles which strengthen the tank and prevent surging.

AXLES – RECESSED

All Abbey recessed tankers have huge commercial ADR axles (Commercial commercial, not Ag commercial) so they are actually 80km rated! The one in the picture above is a 150 x 150mm axle.

TRAILING SHOE / DRIBBLE BAR BRACKETS

All recessed tankers come standard with brackets for a Trailing shoe/ dribble bar/disc injector so these options can be retro fitted at any time.

AXLES – TANDEM

All Tandem tankers (Apart from the 2000 T) are fitted with a robust self-steering, multi leaf spring bogie. This provides optimum weight distribution giving a high level of stability and comfort while enhancing the tankers manoeuvrability. Optional forced steering.
