What is STEM? • STEM is an acronym for – SCIENCE – TECHNOLOGY – ENGINEERING – MATHEMATICS • Students benefit from the knowledge, team building strategies, and problem solving abiliHes taught in STEM‐based courses.
STEM in High School • IntroducHon to Engineering ‐ students work in teams to learn how to use sketching and geometry in the design process. • Principles of Engineering ‐ students use formulas to make calcula<ons for material tes<ng and explore the fields of reliability engineering and kinema<cs. • Digital Electronics ‐ students learn the fundamentals of analog and digital electronics to solve open ended problems. • Aerospace Engineering ‐ students are engaged in the world of engineering design related to aeronau<cs and flight.
STEM in Middle School • The Middle School Gateway to Technology curriculum is a sequence of 9 week units that prepare students for a successful secondary STEM experience.
STEM in Middle School • Design and Modeling ‐ students learn about the engineering design process and computer 3D modeling. • AutomaHon and RoboHcs ‐ students discover the complex development and problem solving that they involve. • Flight and Space ‐ students explore the technology of aeronau<cs and the connec<ons between math and science. • Magic of Electrons ‐ students develop knowledge and skills in basic circuitry design and the impact of electricity in our lives. • Science of Technology ‐ students learn how science has affected technology through history: mechanics of mo<on, etc.
