Come to Ms Jasmine’s looming club where you can spend time with fellow loomers, share your designs and create new patterns. Mya from Grade 5 will assist me and teach you how to create sculptures with your loom bands. There is no charge for this club, but please bring your own bands. Maximum 20 PYP – Story Telling – Activity Club Grade 1-­‐2 Read a book – and create an activity. lunch time Max 12 PYP or MYP Raha Tennis Ladder League You must be An opportunity to join a tennis league and play skilled enough some matches. This is NOT a coaching session, to play a but an hour a week to play matches and be part match of a ladder league. Players will be ranked, hopefully by a Clark Francis coach, to ensure the best possible matches. Players will move up and down weekly depending on match results. Proper tennis etiquette will be introduced and enforced, but the idea is to just get out and play! Raha Newsletter Club Want to help create a newsletter that promotes activities happening at Raha and covers all the events that take place in the school!? Max 4 students Grade 4&5 Max 4 students Grade 6&7 Material World The aim of this club is to provide a creative experience which will develop key textile skills. Members will develop their confidence, communication skills and develop their imagination. We will look at fashion designers and textiles from around the world, to create a sketchbook called a ‘look book’ full of ideas and experiments as well as producing final outcomes using sewing machines. No previous sewing machine experience is required. YOU must bring your own materials and sketch book. Students will be provided with an 8 week training program they can follow if they so choose. Our intent is to run outside. We recognize in September the weather can still be quite hot, but we will be starting slow and using the Secondary gym, while not ultimate, will be considered. There is also a possibility our club could be extended into December if students want to join the X-­‐Country Inter-­‐School 3, 5, & 10 km event taking place January 9th at Zayed Sports City. PLEASE WEAR YOUR SCHOOL PE KIT INCLUDING RUNNING SHOES AND BRING A WATER BOTTLE, HAT, AND TOWEL Be a Banksy (graffiti art club) Are you familiar with the graffiti artist Banksy? In this workshop you will explore his technique and his work using stencils and spray paint. We will design/or choose image, make stencils, and use spray paint to see the effects of our stencil making. ONLY students who haven’t done it before. Max 12 students Grade 3-­‐4 Iris Folding Janet Bolitho Iris Folding is a fun and easy paper folding technique that can be used to make greeting cards or designs can be framed and hung on a wall. It is a lot like paint-­‐by-­‐number, except that you are using folded strips of paper instead of paint. The technique originated in Holland and it is called Iris Folding because the center of the design resembles the iris of a camera or eye. Academic Support If you are in need of a quiet space to complete weekly homework or study, come to Ms. Jens room D12 each Wednesday at 2:45-­‐3:45. You can get help to use and read Managebac, use the MYP library resources, prepare a weekly schedule to help organize your workload and get some tips on how to manage your time productively. Make this ECA a weekly component of your home study schedule and keep on top of homework and tasks. There is internet access, a printer and stationary supplies on hand to help you make the best use of your time. Field Hockey Improve all your skills and strategies of the game. MYP TECH CLUB: Explore the use of Minecraft as a learning tool through gaming! Students will work in teams to explore more advanced ways to use Minecraft such as replicating buildings, creating new seeds, or just collaborating on creating their world with a group of others in the club. We will explore the new mod called Galacticraft as well, and learn how to use it by accessing online tutorials. There will also be the opportunity to compete in other events held in Abu Dhabi during the year such as similar Aquathons, biathlons (bike/run) and triathlons. All these events take place on weekends, early morning. Mix of Theory and Physical training. Goal setting, nutrition, mental ability, safety, event types and distances, Tri terminology. Physical: Running, swimming and transition will be our main focus at Thursday training however the kids will also be able to join me at the track on a Tuesday night for bike riding or a run (this will be a non-­‐compulsory training). REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to swim 400m continuous
