The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) sets and administers the U.S. requirements for facial and eyewear safety products — to ensure superior protection against the most common potential hazards.
Regulation (EU) 2016/425 is met with ISO 12312 - 3: 2022 Sunglasses for running, cycling and similar active lifestyles standard.
The intended use is to protect the eyes of the user from the risk of damage due to environmental elements, such as solar radiation (which differs from the protection from the risk to the damage due to observation of the sun) wind, dust and rain when running, cycling and following similar active lifestyle recreational activities while they are not intended for competitive sporting activities where enhanced impact resistance is required.

ANSI HIGH MASS IMPACT:
A high-mass impact test is conducted by dropping a pointed, 1 inch In diameter steel projectile onto safety glasses from 51.2 inches.
ANSI HIGH VELOCITY IMPACT:
A high-velocity impact test is performed by firing a 0.25 inch steel ball at safety glasses at 150 feet per second (roughly 100 miles per hour). If both the frames and lenses show no signs of breaking, cracking, popping or coming apart after these impact tests, the eyewear qualifies for a Z87+ or Z87-2+ stamp.

Harley–Davidson® Eyewear’s lenses include unique polarization technology to help riders reduce glare without sacrificing visual perception on the road. With a special light-filtering chemical coating, polarized lenses remove harmful horizontal light waves that cause distracting glare but still let the good kinds of light come through. Our lenses are custom-designed for bikers by featuring less than 100% polarization. This reduced percentage eliminates visual imparities caused by reflective surfaces such as car windshields or wet roads while still allowing riders to read LCD screens or spot dangerous road texture such as black ice and pot holes.
Bike life often requires riders to quickly survey their surroundings and make a split-second decision. Color contrast is necessary for depth perception, precision, and visual acuity — ultimately keeping you safer on the road. Human eyes have 3 visible photoreceptors to recognize the colors Red, Green and Blue (RGB) but are very sensitive to yellow and green wavelengths, where red and green overlap. By reducing the intensity of light in this color zone, Harley–Davidson® Eyewear’s color enhanced lens technology acts as an equalizer to improve color perception while reducing overall light to a more comfortable level.
Hydrophobic
Many individual water droplets on performance eyewear can rapidly distort your vision. With its name literally meaning “fear of water” in Greek, Harley–Davidson® Eyewear’s “hydrophobic” lens coating helps repel water molecules from rain and sweat. With a 10-15-nanometer transparent coating on the exterior surface of the lens, this friction-averse coating makes water molecules cling to each other and fall off more easily.
Hydrophobic coatings are common for prescription eyewear and also possess anti-static properties – making dust and other particles more likely to slide off and easier to clean.

Anyone who wears glasses on a daily basis can relate to the struggle of impaired vision caused by foggy lenses. Initially developed by NASA in 1966, anti-fog coatings began as a special chemical added to the astronauts’ shields to counteract moisture buildup inside their helmets. With just one simple click, you can add a foam gasket inside your existing frames that molds to the curves of your face and provides a tight seal between your glasses and eyes. This important facial seal blocks out potentially dangerous peripheral light, wind, dust, dirt and other airborne natural elements. The soft, breathable foam adds a welcomed layer of padding between your face and the hard material of the frames, keeping your eyewear comfortably — yet firmly — in place.
T-Peg Elastic Strap Insert
Never risk losing your Harley–Davidson® Eyewear with our T-Peg Headstrap. Ideal for those who wear an openfaced helmet, this adjustable strap keeps your frames secure during harsh winds, high speeds or unpredictable riding conditions. As an optional attachment to your existing Harley–Davidson® Performance Eyewear, the T-Peg Headstrap is easily removeable for a more fashionable aesthetic once you reach your destination.

By maximizing friction at the temple contact points, frames with rubber temple tips offer the most effective and comfortable solution to the all-too-common issue of eyewear slipping down your nose. Harley–Davidson® Eyewear’s frames feature soft, rubber temple tips that distribute force and minimize pressure, keeping your eyewear firmly in place without adding unnecessary facial strain.
Available for certain Harley–Davidson® Eyewear models, front-rim venting manages the airflow in and out of your frames. Front-rim venting allows enough air inside the frames to prevent condensation accumulation but still blocks out the kind of wind and debris that could be harmful to the rider.
