Inside the issue Patriotic fashions
Designer Douglas Says presented his Fall 2012 fashions with his opening theme displaying patriotic fashions.
Our President is demanding a tall order from us all. So I've adopted the "Made In America" mission as my mission. My humble beginnings started in the African-American community where fashion and accessories have always been iconic products. So, what is a better opportunity for fashion enthusiast to express
American patriotism than to wear our colors with fashions made in America?
Initially, this was fabric that literally sat in the fabric store window for years. I purchased it for another purpose, to use as a muslin. Then I had the idea of creating a couple of junior pieces with it and call it "The Presidents Wife" to use in a pictorial photo series. I traditionally create with jersey knit, not cotton. I use jersey knits to create stylish fashions for the everyday woman. Jersey knits are luxurious as it barely grazes your curves. One secret I'll offer about jersey knit garments is that it works fabulous as a travel collection because it's practically wrinkle free. It's an American made fabric that is known for it's comfort and fit. Most Designers find it difficult to work with, but I'm right at home with jersey knit fabric. I also design for full-figured women and I've titled that collection "Plus-U". One of my goals is to try to remove old taboos about stretch fabrics like jersey knits. There is a notion that knits are unkind to full-figured body types. Like everything else, the fabric just has to be custom cut with your body in mind! I'm totally aware that real women have curves. We Designers need to accept that fact and lend a helping hand in complimenting those curves. It's unnecessary to hide, deny or flat out ignore your figure! So I'm finally able to answer those calls... which have become full shout-outs! As a Designer I can't pretend not to hear or see customer's request for stylish plus size fashions. I'm always educating myself about my customer's need, as well as learning what possible innovations I can apply using US made fabrics to meet these needs. These women can enjoy quality and style that's American made"! Explains Says. Fashion designer Douglas Says is presenting women with two gifts; his patriotic flair, and his signature style... without compromising comfort. All found in a product-line that's made in American.
-Media Relations,Smith
"America was built on what America has built. So, I think it's really sad that our manufacturing resources in New York's garment district are no longer of convenience. Everything is practically invisible now. They've forced everybody out! If Americans start supporting more US made products it would bring back jobs and put a lot of food on a lot of American people's tables. Ya know, I'm really not very political, though I do make sure I go out to vote. And I do believe in President Obama's efforts" Mr. Says literally has a patriotic frame of mind, as displayed by the leggy models that cascade onto the runway. Each model steps through a ten foot silver frame before presenting garments that reflect old glory. A small collection of red, white and blue dresses complete with stars and strips open the Douglas Says presentation. "I'm patriotic about

2012 is a year steeped with political rhetoric. Politicians are claiming this, declaring that, blaming each other while requesting more from us. Yet underneath all the fuss is just us. Your every day Americans... who are waiting on a political promise of more jobs that are made in America. Well, one soft-spoken American expressed without words, a vision to do something about it! Designer Douglas Says presented his Fall 2012 fashions with his opening theme displaying patriotic fashions. In the spirit of Old Glory, Fashion Designer Douglas Says... FASHIONS MADE IN AMERICA!

Before a show, I do lot of dancing so that covers up the working out. But besides that I do yoga every morning and meditation. Few times a week I go for run in the park or do kick-boxing which is a great cardio exercise as well as it works all the muscles in the body. I have been in the entertainment field for over 10 years now & have seen a lot of fashion trends over the years both in India & abroad, while traveling or having lived in Norway since childhood. I was always fashion inclined and had hoped to come out with my own fashion label, but B o l l y wo o d kept me busy & my plans to start the label kept getting postponed. But this time when I went to Norway, around 2 years back, I had plenty of time on my hand & put all my concentration in designing, the result of which was the starting of Mahek Chahal Clothing. I started it off in Norway 1st, amongst my friends & family, but now I am growing the label to the rest of Europe, America as well as India. I have always wanted woman to look sexy and

reach out to so many woman as I believe that beautiful fashion shouldn’t be exclusive. My clothes will have colours & cuts with influences
of both Indian & western culture & also I believe that every wo m a n , young or old, thin or voluptuous should have access to look stunning. My clothes will not be limited to women of only small sizes, as I believe that dressing up women of all sizes with equal panache is the key ingredient of a good designer.

"I'm patriotic about my country and I was inspired by President Barack Obama's comments during his State of the Union Address.
I'm really not very political, though I do make sure I go out to vote, and I do believe in President Obama's efforts" - Douglas Obama said, "We need to out innovate, out educate and out build the rest of the world". Our President is demanding a tall order from us all. So I've adopted the "Made In America" mission as my mission. My humble beginnings started in the African-American community where fashion and accessories have
FASHION & LIFE India Edition - Jan ‘12
always been iconic products. So, what is a better opportunity for fashion enthusiast to express American patriotism than to wear our colors with fashions made in America? Initially, this was fabric that literally sat in the fabric store window for years. I purchased it for another purpose, to use as a muslin. Then I had the idea of creating a couple of junior pieces with it and call it "The Presidents Wife" to use in a pictorial photo series. I traditionally create with jersey knit, not cotton. I use jersey knits to create stylish fashions for the everyday woman. Jersey knits are luxurious as it barely grazes your
curves.
We Designers need to accept that fact and lend a
helping hand in complimenting those curves. All found in a productline that's made in American.

RAJAYSH TONDON Success with strings attached?

FASHION & LIFE India Edition - Jan ‘12
The old culprits of the phenomenal success Kaho Na Pyaar Hai seem to be karmicialy stringed! Yes, after that loud bang which was heard more than pachaas pachaas Kos door gaanv main, RAJAYSH TONDON is back with Hritik. He dons the mantle of the hyper Pathan Mazhar Lala son of Rauf lala, played by Rishi kapoor in Karan Johar’s Dharma productions film Agneepath, starring Hritik Roshan, and Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra. After an uncanny coincidence of graduation, sudden demise of father and the happening of the most enviable break KNPH, we saw Rajaysh
intermittently put a few pegs of histrionics with quite noticed and plauded appearances in Company and Naach with Ram Gopal verma(who he feels he can never get over as a director). My wife’s murder saw him opposite Nandana Sen with Anil kapoor. His television outing as lovable Ishaan in Ekta kapoor’s Koshish ek aasha with Anurag Basu, another favourite director is still fondly remembered. He also kept us teased with his presence in some quite well noticed ads, beginning with McDonalds, the last being the introductory ad for Volkswagen in India. Talking of his charming looks and manners, we

Yes, though he modestly shies way from boasting of it yet it’s a fact that he’s the grandson of Shrimati Tondon, the princess of the erstwhile state of Kotra in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. His uncle HRH Vimleshwar Dayal Seth was married to Dr Padma Seth, the first cousin of our beloved late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. He also belongs to the city of Banaras (aka Varanasi aka Kashi) represents India, religiously and intellectually. It is an illustrious place of pilgrimage & an idealized nucleus of faith. And if the precedence of KNPH is any indicative of their volatile combination then we can surely look forward to quite an Agnee-path!! We wish them very best for success.

And in such a short time having done more than 300 show all over India...including LAKME INDIA FASHION WEEK,WILLS FASHION WEEK.,MTV LYCRA STYLE AWARDS [runway}, AND MANY BRANDS like AAROW,LEVISE,LEE,PROVOUGE,ROOPAMS, PANTALOONS,etc etc, and after having also done many prints,TVC's ,PROMOS etc, as actor, anchor, VJ, RJ, is no mean achievement.

To top it all, this top10 finalist of a national personality pageant has just finished shooting for MTV Spilt villa 3 which is currently on air. Sufzal Saleem has been ruling the ramp for the last two years now, & featured in several commercials and worked with well-known designers. Yet this is quite a beginning for the youngster. “The era of supermodels is gone. It’s like you have to prove yourself with every show! As he admits most humbly, "I would call myself a struggling model for that is what I have to do approaching people and getting the shows,” Sufzal has also worked with international photographers RAKESH SHRESHTA SIR,DERRAN CENTOFNTI,GAURAV SAWN, and our very own RAKESH SHRESHTA, ROHAN SHRESHTA, & Karim. An aspiring actor from Pune, who’s shifted to Mumbai for the projects lined up, has recently done 4 month acting course from creating characters (vidhur sir.) as he lovingly calls him. To gauge his popularity among the fairer sex and the like, you can observe from

But not getting swayed by all the accolades and praises being showered on him, Sufzal has somehow managed to stay away from such glow of fame, and stay rooted so as to achieve his bigger dreams to make it big in the film firmament.
Sufzal having dabbled in fashion in a big way is striving to make a mark again in BIG WAY in the tinsel town of Bollywood. He has everything going for him and is open to major film breaks and having a personality that can do wonders in the international arena too, is not averse to it as well. As it is he has many offers, and is spending time reading scripts, but is very careful in short listing his debut vehicle. He is full of confidence and sure of making a smooth foray into the mainstream cinema with equal ease and comfort, the way he made his mark with his versatility in the other related fashion frontier. "All I need is your Love and Blessings" are his parting words!

W
e are extremely glad to introduce our new initiative “F&L Photography” also referred sometimes as “Fashion & Llife Photography”.
Since our first issue, we used to get queries for making portfolio for aspiring models as well as for professional ones. Our initial decision was to stick on to the online publishing business only and not to deviate from that vertical. However since the never ending popular demand we started our photography and portfolio making section with a team of talented photographers. We never want to make this as a primary business, so we do not look for any marginal profit from this - WHICH MEANS, the charges will be substantially low and you will benefit a lot! The package starts from a few thousands to goes up to a lakh. Each does have its own pros and cones but another significant benefit you’ll be getting is the free publishing options - those are bundled with many of the packages so you are saving approximately 50% of your money! More over F&L folio is a style statement :) As we mentioned before, every good thing in life comes with a price tag, there are lot many people who ask us to help them for free! It is NOT POSSIBLE, because we cannot AFFORD to do that! We are sure this is a good news for many, keep reading, supporting, sharing, subscribing Fashion & Life - Your magazine, your wishes, your choice! Cheers! Team F&L

Kinkini Dhvani
stablished on 5th April 1991, Kinkini Dhvani is an institution dedicated to the popularisation of the Indian classical arts amongst the youth. To this end, the institution has employed a two pronged approach with great success. On the one hand, instruction is imparted to the students in the pristine Kalakshetra format of the oldest classical dance form Bharatanatyam in the auspicious surroundings of the largest temple in East Delhi, the Uttara Guruvayoorappan temple of Mayur Vihar, a concept that is unique in the entire Northern India. On the other hand, the art form is propagated through various programmes, dance dramas and lecture demonstrations to inculcate an appreciation of the dance form From a modest beginning, the institution fast gained popularity and now boasts of more than a hundred students undertaking the course. The students come from varied backgrounds and are enfolded within the process of learning an art form while imbibing the essence of Indian tradition and culture. Some, from less fortunate backgrounds find an opportunity to grow into young adults with a wider horizon than
theatre. Invited time and again to perform at various prestigious areas, and to commemorate such singular moments such as the 50th year of CARE international, or yearly performances in the capital during Navaratri, Janamashtami and other Indian festivals, Kinkini Dhvani has proved its concert section equal to the palate of any audience. The students have also been a regular part of social interventions undertaken by the institution or by the Director and have learnt to use the art to instil values, create space for social changes and communicate messages at all levels. Each participant brings a unique perspective that adds value to every project and is encouraged to explore avenues of contribution both individually and as a group, helping to create a sense of social responsibility and the ability to respond to needs in the society around them. Apart from the performances, the students of the Kinkini Dhvani, nurtured in the tranquil temple precincts in their formative years have the unique advantage of learning their art in its original surroundings, thereby bringing a special quality of reverence and sublimity to its execution. With students of different religious beliefs, gathering under the same roof to learn an art form that is alien to many of them, the ultimate group emerges as one with supreme religious tolerance and great capacity for co-existence. With the efforts of the past bearing fruit with each product of the institution, Kinkini Dhvani steps out each year with a resolve to surpass its own records.
“More than a houndred students are undertaking courses from Kinkini Dhavani they may otherwise have been able to find. This makes the experience of both learning and teaching one of much greater satisfaction. The senior students, a majority of whom are at the post-graduate level in dance, have, for the past ten years, formed a concert section that has gained itself a reputation for outstanding performances. Their talent has been on display both within the country and outside it, including a highly successful tour of the Middle East commemorating the Birth Centenary celebrations of Smt Rukmini Devi Arundale as part of the annual Smriti Pravah Festival. This is where the second approach of the institution comes into play. With a vast repertoire of pure dance sequences and dance dramas both mythological, traditional and completely creative themes of contemporary times, the concert section and the Kinkini Dhvani banner, have done much in the past decade to bring within easy reach of the public their own traditions in that most pleasant form – a visual art that combines the soul of music, dance and

VGM Photography is run under the guidance of Mr. Varun - It was a childhood romance rekindled when this software engineer with soft spot for graphic design first laid his hands on the Canon Rebel in late 2005, and knew he had found a companion with whom going the extra mile would mean the journey had begun its abundance of sweet, gratifying distractions that would make it all the more special. In photography, he found a medium through which he could interpret and express (AND experience) his view of life and its offerings in a manner that would also reflect his technical sensibilities and love of attention to detail. Since then he has added to his repertoire an assemblage of photographs that span over different genres, touching and revealing (if only discreetly) different aspects of himself and endless experiences connected to each memory preserved in these expressions through faces and moments.

You have known to be one standing by me to fulfill my of the fittest contestants in dreams. I am here to stay for quite sometime now and I BiggBoss. What is your fitness mantra? Before a show, I do lot of dancing so that covers up the working out. But besides that I do yoga every morning and meditation. Few times a week I go for run in the park or do kick-boxing which is a great cardio exercise as well as it works all the muscles in the body. I have a normal diet where I eat every 3-4 hours and it comprises of everything but healthy like salads, bean sprouts, dal, roti, chicken or fish. One day in a week I let myself go and binge on everything and anything. Q. You had a recent proposal by beau Danish Khan on the finale of Bigg Boss. Are you getting married? A. Danish & I have known each other for 4-5 years and in Norway, giving a ring is taking the relationship to the next level of commitment. Marriage right now is not on the cards but eventually we will plan things out and move in that direction too. Danish is a lovely person and we are very comfortable with each other, but more than that I am so glad that he is a man who is

How is life after Bigg Boss? PHEW!!! Life is so peaceful & calm after bigg boss. It feels like I was in a different world when I was in the house. But yes after participating in Bigg Boss I realized the importance of a house & your own space & time. I also realized the love my fans have for me, who insistently kept voting for me week after week. I met so many people after I came out & they hugged me & told me how much they loved me and how they cried when I cried and laughed when I laughed. There is a group of fans too who call themselves Mahekians. Also after Bigg Boss I took a break with friends & family, but I am soon going to resume work. Also I have started my own clothing line – Mahek Chahal Clothing, which is keeping me occupied as well.

Clothing...
I have been in the entertainment field for over 10 years now & have seen a lot of fashion trends over the years both in India & abroad, while traveling or having lived in Norway since childhood. I was always fashion inclined and had hoped to come out with my own fashion label, but Bollywood kept me busy & my plans to start the label kept getting postponed. I have always wanted woman to look sexy and classy. Today with my clothing line I am able to reach out to so many woman as I believe that beautiful fashion shouldn’t be exclusive. My clothes will have colours & cuts with influences of both Indian & western culture & also I be-
lieve that every woman, young or old, thin or voluptuous should have access to look stunning. My clothes will not be limited to women of only small sizes, as I believe that dressing up women of all sizes with equal panache is the key ingredient of a good designer. I have put a lot of myself into my collection. I wear all of the clothes from the line and put a personal touch on all of the pieces. I wanted to make my collection the way I dress, how I live. I didn't want to just give my name to a collection; I wanted to be a part of it. My team is just putting together the essential bits of starting my online store as well, where women can order clothes from anywhere in the world, without hesitation with an online paying facility as well. There will be a lot of designs, which will be displayed & women can also have customized designs made according to their taste or even maybe a function they are planning to attend.

F&L Health Get Summerlicious Skin !! Dr. Varun Katyal Consultant Dermatologist & Cosmetologist The Skin Centre, C-47, South Extension Part II, New Delhi - 110049 011-46083237, 011-46656329 theskincentre@rediffmail.com
Summer is a great time to get outside and rejuvenate your mind and body. But for your skin, summer means extra exposure to the sun, heat and sweat. Unlike winter's bulky turtlenecks and baggy corduroys, summer's style follows the “skin-is-in theory”. So what are you waiting for ? This summer, give your skin a little TLC by following these tips under the supervision of a dermatologist to get healthy, refreshed Summerlicious skin.
Moisturize-
Whatever be your skin type, don’t forget to moisturize it. Apply a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type and skin needs to keep your skin soft and supple. Consider switching to a lighter, preferably water based moisturizer. If you are susceptible to acne or pimples, make sure you use a moisturizer that is non-comedogenic and oil free.
Keep hydrated-
Drink adequate amount of water throughout the day. If you are on the go, try carrying a bottle and a container of fresh fruit on the go to prevent dehydration and heat stroke.
Exfoliate-
http://www.dreamstime.com/beautiful-young-girl-6-imagefree248135
Facial scrubs and masks may help lift off the dead, dull, sun-damaged skin cells revealing the healthier skin below. This will help brighten your complexion and remove the tan. Depending on your skin type, exfoliate once a week if you have dry skin type and 2 times a week if you don’t have dry skin type to help shed dead skin build up. Use a mild facial exfoliator for the face and a good body scrub for the body.
Follow sun protection-
It’s never too early in the year to think about applying sunscreen. The sun’s UV rays can damage your skin all year long. Choose a good broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. Apply your sunscreen 20 to 30 minutes before going out. Don’t be frugal-apply sunscreen liberally and reapply sunscreen every two hours or after getting out of the water. Reapply after exercising, as sweat can water down sunscreen, making it less effective.
Eye cream and lip protection-
Protect the delicate areas of your face with appropriate creams and balms. Continue to use an eye cream, but if your usual cream feels too heavy for summer, replace your current product with a lighter formulation or use only at night. Apply and liberally re-apply a lip balm with SPF to protect your lips as well, even if you are using lipstick.
April 2012
Cover up-
Dress to protect. Lightweight, cotton clothes along with a cap, scarf or broad-brimmed hat act as shields from harmful UV rays.
FASHION & LIFE a
Protect your neck, hands and feet too-
Your neck, chest, and hands are an instant giveaway to your true age and are prone to get damaged by the UV rays. After moisturizing your face, moisturize your neck, hands and feet as well. Be sure to apply sunscreen to your neck and chest area and hands and feet as these areas of the body are also susceptible to UV damage. Also, with summer comes open-toed shoes and sandals, so be sure to exfoliate, moisturize, and protect exposed feet. Take into account that sunscreen will rub off faster than it would from the rest of your body from rubbing against the straps of your sandals etc. Thus, it is recommended to re-apply more frequently to prevent burnt feet.
Make sure you are getting enough antioxidants like beta-carotene, lycopene, vitamins C, E, and A etc. from your diet. Foods rich in antioxidants are berries, pomegranate, citrus fruits, kale, soybeans and nuts etc. Antioxidants interact with free radicals and stabilize these free radicals to prevent damage that they might otherwise cause. Make sure you also take appropriate vitamin and mineral supplements, if required, after consultation with your doctor.
Boost your block with antioxidants-
Skincare products containing antioxidants like Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and green tea etc. can help protect from sun damage.
Get appropriate treatments, if required-
Sometimes you might require a specialized treatment. Microdermabrasion, Med-facials and chemical peels done after consultation with a dermatologist and under the supervision of a dermatologist may help to get rid of tanning and few other signs of sun damage, remove rough patches on the skin, reduce age spots and help to reveal healthy, glowing skin.
Clean swipe-
During summer, heat and humidity can cause oil glands to work overtime. Use an appropriate face cleanser as per your skin type and skin concerns twice daily followed by an appropriate toner. Don’t get into the habit of cleansing too often because cleansing too often can break down the skin’s protective barrier, causing excessive dryness and irritation, and may also cause breakouts.
