Alalbout neon Designer Arpita Mehta’s Neocap collection promises to be a vibrant, colourful ode to those who always dance to the music in their heads
G
o neon’ seems to be the mantra for the new-age force of fashion, Arpita Mehta, who unveiled her latest collection replete with neon colours recently. After working with a neutral colour palette the previous year, the fashion designer has ventured beyond the obvious with her unique collection this season.
Fashion Bud | August-2019
Her experimental capsule line Neocap boasts of an eclectic collection of attires that are buoyant, bright and vivacious at once. From elegantly embellished pants to breezy kaftans to vibrant crop tops, and floor-length capes in fluorescent shades of lime green, tangerine, and fuchsia pink, this collection has it all. Elaborating on her fascination for ‘anything and everything neon,’ Arpita shares, “I have always had a strange fondness for neon colours, but refrained from incorporating it in my designs and collections. Trying this would be ticking off one of the many sartorial experiments from my wishlist. This experimental fluorescent capsule line is an ode to those who always dance to the music in their heads.” With minimalist design styles to complement the flamboyant colour palette, Arpita’s design aesthetic captures the imagination of modern-day fashionistas and helps them unleash their creativity with the accessories as well. The accessories are a perfect match to Arpita’s outfits, where she has also made an effort to revive the cowrie shell trend. With the comeback of one of the most dominant trends in Indian fashion, Arpita’s accessories resonate well with her extravagant, quirky collection.

COVER STORY
REDEFINING
LEGACY
The sixth scion of Birla empire talks to Sweta Pendyala about her journey of breaking stereotypes, choosing an unconventional career that she feared of pursuing in the beginning, dropping out of Oxford University for music and a lot more that shaped her to who she is today.
nanya Birla is going places and there is no doubt in it. The musician started her year with the release of Unstoppable on International Women’s Day, to celebrate women around the world who reject outdated gender stereotypes. The musician says that she got inspired by her mom way back in 2015 to write Unstoppable and which is why it also features her mother Neerja Birla. Later this year, Ananya also collaborated with Nigerian hip hop artists, Vector and WurlD for Blackout and then dropped her first EP Fingerprint. Making the most of each moment, the artist has teamed up with Sean Kingston for a track and says that it is just the beginning as the list of international collaborations for 2019 and the coming years is long. Read on to find out what Ananya has to say about her journey. Excerpts:
Both of my parents are talented and dedicated: witnessing their work ethic and values definitely had an impact on the person I am today...

I had five members in the audience for myself Music had always been a passion, but it really kicked off when I was at university in the UK. I was going through a tough time and music was my constant. I wrote a lot, spent most my weekends performing at gigs and open mic nights in London. One evening I was at a tiny venue, near where Amy Winehouse started out. I was singing to like five people, on a grimy stage in the corner of the room and in spite of the uninspiring setting, I loved it. This is when I realised that no matter where I am, or whom I am performing for, nothing makes me happier or feel comfortable and complete than music. Later that night, people began getting into the songs. I really saw the power of music, how it can engage people on a deeper level and make them smile. With my songs, the aim is same. I want to connect with people emotionally and bring a smile to their face. This is how my passionate journey with music began.
Passion overpowers pressure There was certainly pressure for me to follow a more conventional career path, and it took a while for me to become confident about stating that I wanted to pursue a career in music. I was scared about what people would say or that I would fail at the thing I loved most, but eventually, my passion for making music became bigger than my fear of putting myself out there. My mother gave me the best piece of advice as a kid – to try my best and leave the rest to God. It is something I live by, I even have it written up on

the wall of my office. I give 110 per cent in everything I do. I learned a lot from my family. Both of my parents are talented and dedicated: witnessing their work ethic and values definitely had an impact on the person I am today. However, ever since I started Svatantra at 17, I’ve carved my own path, developed my own ideas, made my own mistakes and learned as much as possible on my own journey. My parents love music and have always been so supportive of my choice to pursue it as a career. It was my mother who inspired me to take up my first instrument the santoor at the age of nine and she herself plays it very beautifully. I wanted to pursue music ever since I started learning the santoor. I was kind of a quiet kid, but music - and particularly performing - gave me this way of expressing myself like nothing else. It has remained a constant companion through all the good times and bad times in my life. Today, I am so happy that I made the leap of faith. I know how lucky I am to wake up every day and do the thing I love most. I hope to encourage people to realise that they can also break down barriers and stereotypes, follow their passions and do the things which spark a fire in their soul.
Experimenting with genres globally Blackout was new for me. It’s a different style of music to what I’ve done before and it was challenging, but in the best possible way. If you don’t challenge yourself, you don’t progress. I’ve always wanted to experiment with genres and I’m so happy with the result. It was an awesome experience to work with two of Nigeria’s biggest hip hop artists, Vector and WurlD. I’ve found collaborating with artists from around the world so rewarding. Music has this amazing ability to break down cultural barriers and engage people, wherever they’re from. It’s the ultimate global language.
Fashion Bud | August-2019
2019 is is gonna be high on collaborations Blackout is the start of a number of international collaborations I have lined up. In July, I’m releasing a song with Sean Kingston - we met when I opened for him at a concert in Goa, and really hit it off. We made this really vibey summer track, so I’m looking forward to sharing that too.
Designers and consumers now aspire to a photography away from the usual references, singular in expression
Undoubtedly, working with Universal in India and Island Records UK has opened up so many doors for me to work with artists both back home and around the world. I am definitely still growing as an artist and would never want to categorise myself. Right now, I want to experiment with different genres and collaborate with people from across the industry as much as possible, whether they’re in the dance, hip hop, or with some of the supremely talented local artists in India. For now, I won’t say too much about it, but there are lot more really exciting stuff coming up after the release of my new track with Sean. `
International music scene is growing in the country The musical landscape is shifting dramatically, because of platforms like Spotify and
22
access to music from everywhere in the world. Artists aren’t just thinking about audiences back home – they’re developing tracks that appeal internationally. We’re seeing all these emerging scenes cropping up all over the country in pop, hip-hop, electro and rock too. I am really confident we are going to see some amazing talent from India on the international scene very soon.
What is your favourite fashion splurge? Sneakers –I’m obsessed.
My debut EP ‘Fingerprint’ just dropped. I really want it to appeal to audiences everywhere in the world. It’s never been a more exciting time to be a musician in India.
How important is fashion for you personally and professionally? I don’t avidly follow trends – I appreciate the aesthetic value of amazing clothes, and, and the imagination that goes into creating them.
Better days for independent musicians
What is your current fashion trend? Athleisure. You can’t fault it.
Independent musicians have struggled in the shadow of film music for decades. But thanks to online platforms, there has been an explosion of talented and unique musicians emerging around the country.
What is one fashion accessory that you cannot step out without? My beige Bang & Olufsen headphones! Do they count?
I think for a while there was much more focus on the song than the artist but all thanks to digital medias it has given musicians a platform to showcase their talents and now labels are pushing independent singers too. There's a lot more opportunity for artists who want to create their own music and it is growing fantastic day by day.
How experimental are you when it comes to fashion? When I’m performing or having my picture taken, I’m not afraid of taking a risk. I enjoy putting together looks based on my mood.
Do you have any style icon? I always love what Bella Hadid is wearing. Even if she goes full glam, she’s got some anarchic, rock-chick detail that steals the show. Recent purchase you
are extremely happy with? I found the most amazing Nirvana T-shirt at a vintage store in LA a couple of months ago which I have worn so much since. Other than that, I just bought some new Yeezy sneakers that I’m in love with. How do you define the style and what are you most comfortable with? It’s driven by my mood. Whatever I’m wearing, it’s always an authentic reflection of how I feel. Sometimes I’ll go glamorous, and other times I’m totally chilled and just feel like kicking back in jeans and a tee. How important is fashion for musician/performer? It depends on the musician. Some artists create a persona for which costume is key – David Bowie, Madonna, Lady Gaga. But for others, it’s not part of the performance at all. For me, comfort comes before fashion. What do you prefer when you have to switch off from work? I travel so much that I start crave quality time with family and friends – it’s the thing I miss most. So for me, it would be a home cooked meal with the people I love.
People struggle to label me I used to really struggle to find the right balance. My health began to suffer because I wasn’t getting enough sleep and I wasn’t taking enough time to be with the people I love. I’m really lucky to now have such amazing teams working with me at my businesses and Mpower. This means I can take a more strategic role than when they first launched and spend more time in the studio. It also means I can get more quality time with my friends and family, which is something I value more than anything else. Music is definitely the priority right now. But that doesn’t mean I am any less committed to my other work. I think sometimes people struggle to label me, the musician vs the entrepreneur etc, but I am a big believer that your identity should be based on what makes you feel fulfilled and where you can make a positive impact.

c i t o x EPhoto Shoot ICONS
Locations
M
emories are best preserved when they are captured and framed — a constant reminder of our good times. We generally hire a photographer or become photographers ourselves to capture the best moments of our life. Prewedding photos, cake smash photo shoots, baby shoots, maternity photo shoots, models’ album and couple photos are a few favourites. A 3-minute video shoot, made like a movie, is what is trending now. With such a wonderful range of photography occasions, it is essential to choose the right location. If you are planning to capture your special moments in Karnataka, India, here are some ideal spots for you to get fantastic pictures and videos. These locations are certainly worth a visit and offer a perfect backdrop for your shoot.
Church Street, Bengaluru Church Street stretches all the way from the famous Brigade Road to St Mark’s Road in Bengaluru city. This area is filled with all kinds of restaurants, pubs, shopping centres, cafes and more hotspots. You will find great crowds flocking to this area. If you want to take pictures with a colourful crowd in the background, head to any of the stores or eateries. You could simply capture stunning photographs on the road too. Places which are usually used as photography spots are: Chai Point, Matteo Coffea and Blue Frog. Chai Point and Matteo Coffea are some locations where you can shoot during the day, whereas Blue Frog is a night club and should be captured post dusk or during the night. Pick up your camera and go shooting.
Bhoga Nandeeshwara, Nandi Hills Nandi Hills itself is an exotic photoshoot spot, 60km from Bengaluru. Have you visited the Bhoga Nandeeshwara temple in the foot hills here? This is a pilgrimage place, a picnic spot and also a historic monument dating back to the 9thcentury, known as the oldest of all temples ever constructed in Karnataka. Every pillar, nook and corner of this monument has beautifully designed detailed inscriptions that do not allow the photographer to put his camera down. It has aesthetically carved temples and a beautiful temple pond, enclosed by a four-side walkway staircase. Bring along a high resolution camera and start taking the most memorable photographs. Do not forget to capture the Yali pillars, the ornate pillar and the southern side view of this unique masterpiece. Fashion Bud | A July ugust , 2019 -2019

Sangam and Mekedatu, Karnataka Sangam and Mekedatu are an integral part of Karnataka’s rich heritage and are only a 93km drive from Bengaluru. Mekedatu is a 5-10m ravine, where the river Kaveri gushes out between steep rocks to freedom. It is a treat to watch and an
amazing photo-shoot location. A little ahead,3km away, is the sangam, a place where three rivers, Hemavathi, Kaveri and Lokapavani meet. This again is a not-tobe-missed photo shoot location. You can try to shoot spectacular photos by taking a ride in the famous coracles.
Since water is an important factor here, September-December is the ideal period for a magical visit. It is advisable to have a swimmer on board as the force of the water is hard to manage, without even the basic swimming skills.
Janapada Loka, Ramnagar Add a little folksy touch to your photographs by clicking them at the ‘folk world’, commonly called as the Janapada Loka. This beautiful place is situated in Ramnagar district of Karnataka, and is open from nine in the morning till five in the evening. Avoid going there on Tuesdays as it remains closed. The place is spread over 15acres of land and houses over 5,000 sculptures, artifacts, paintings, and many more stunning scenarios that are worth capturing. This exotic location has been created solely to showcase the rich heritage of Karnataka. You can ask the subject to pose near the authentic huts and cottages, bullock carts, and magnificently designed chariots. This place also is best visited outside the vacation season.
Omkar Hills, Bengaluru Omkar hills is the home of gods and goddesses and is located at Rajarajeshwari Nagar in southern Bengaluru. This place is over 2500m above sea level and has beautiful temples built to venerate various deities. It is also known for having the world’s largest tower clock. Photography is, however, prohibited inside the temple as it disturbs the peace and concentration of the devotees, but the surroundings of the temple have amazing photography locations. One such spot is the Omkar Ashram. The place is beautifully constructed and has elaborate sculptures, well worth a click. You not only can seek the almighty’s blessings here, but also capture amazing pictures. Make sure you do not come during vacation period as it is crowded and you would find it hard to get good pictures. Photography is not allowed at some places.

Trend Today?
A
new season brings a new reason to do a complete makeover for your wardrobe. If you are a fashion enthusiast, you will find the most trending collection of clothing and accessories to choose fromthis year! The styles and trends range from subtle colours to bold and florescent ones. Various fashion brands, with Gucci being the most loved and highly rated, are now following the theme, “Old is New”. Balenciaga’s footwear is what the crowds look up to ever since its “ugly shoes” became a huge hit. Off-White, Givenchy, and Dolce and Gabbana have made their way into people’s favourite listings after celebrities like Duchess Meghan Markle, the gorgeous Kim Kardashian and other famous fashion gods have endorsed them. So, let’s have a sneak peak at their products so you can look at what to follow and flaunt. The 90s’ fashion is back with a blast of extravagant textures and patterns. The designers and fashion experts have lavishly played with colours to bring out the best in their outfits. The blacks, whites, browns and greys have been cast aside, and today’s formalscome with blazing bright and eye-catching colours to pep up the day and boost the mood of those flaunting it. You can now see a lot of bell bottoms and mermaid tail cuts invogue, instead of the straight, tight, pencil-fit bottoms, which were once an obsession. The designers have also invoked the much-loved high-neck blouses, along with the current crop tops and offshoulders. Long lean skirts, paired with such tops, have clean, well-crafted cuts that give a hot look to the wearer. What’s more, you can lounge in jumpsuits, designed with a bit of artistic inspiration from our very own cargos and baggy pants. The casuals adopt the Bohoconcept, with a sleek hippy tone added on. To finish off your outfit, you can match it up with feathered jewelry, leather bags and high-heel wedged shoes that are trending.

The Right Hacks To
LOSEWEIGHT “H
ow to Lose Weight”, is one of the most asked questions and you have been feeding the search engines with it often, isn’t it? Almost all women would love to flaunt the diverse collection of clothing they have in their wardrobe and look magnificent, if and only if they were thin enough to fit into them. All of us thrive on the tips and tricks provided on the internet and religiously follow them, without doing a thorough research on their pros and cons. There are a millionpeople out there, who were once in the same boat, trying out everything possible to shed the extra kilos. Most of them followed the procedures blindly, until they reached the last leg of the race that took a toll on their health and looks. The world would have fit and slim women only if all the tips we gather, without any verification, really worked. We need to have a balanced lifestyle and understand that overnight weight loss treatments are not practical and realistic.
Let’s have a sneak peek at the healthiest way of losing weight Crunch proteins instead of carbohydrates
Most of us have a sweet tooth and love to eat sweetened food products. This play shavoc with our health. The carbohydrates Fashion Bud | August-2019
and sugars in the sweets get easily digested and increase our hunger cravings. Cut down on them and add ample amounts of proteins to your diet. They boost metabolism and burn calories while getting digested. The foods rich in protein include eggs, fish, low fat cheese, milk, nuts, beans and legumes.
yoga. Play some loud beats during your free time and dance your heart out, instead of choosing a cozy corner to doze in. A healthy mind flourishes in a healthy body. Train your mind and the rest will fall into the right track.
Cut down on alcohol and guzzle fruit and veggie juices
Alcohol is loaded with calories that increase your cholesterol levels. Sip natural, low calorie fruit juices instead of taking poisonous hard drinks. Your taste buds will soon learn to relish watermelon, cucumber, orange, apple, carrot and beetroot juices. They not only have the requisite vitamins and nutrients, but are also low in calories and aid in weight loss.
Choose a small plate
This may sound too simplistic, however, it has been proven that your intake of food is directly proportional to the size of your plate. A large amount of food filled in a small plate makes the plate look overloaded and this gives the person the feeling that he is full even if he has a little. Try it yourself!

s k c a H y t u Bea for you
It is a fact that we need to love ourselves first for the world to love us. All of us look up to our favourite fashion gods, and wonder how they stay well groomed always. You too can become like your idols by following these quick and easy tips with things easily available at home.
Flaunt Your Gorgeous Hair
Your hair is your most precious crown and taking care of this treasured possession is no rocket science. Make sure to condition your hair with cold pressed olive and coconut oils. Warming the oil a little helps in opening the pores on the scalp. Do this twice a week and proudly show off your beautiful hair. Wash your hair on the days you do gym and sweat out, and use hair wraps to keep it frizz-proof.
Wave Good Bye To Droopy Eyes
Your eyes are the mirror of your soul. Why keep them dull because of a tiring day at work? Keeptwo teaspoons in your refrigerator for a few minutes and place them on your eyelids for five minutes. You can do this with frozen tea bags too. Take two slices of cucumber and place them on your eyelids. These tips will help you get rid of sagging under-eye folds.
Make Way ForFlawless Skin
Fed up of testing hazardous chemicals on your skin with the hope of looking beautiful? Get beautiful skin naturally! Keep yourself well hydrated and have a lot of orange and carrot juice; the skin-friendly vitamins in them work miracles on your skin. Use sunscreens and protect your skin from the harmful radiations of the sun. Even one hour exposed to harsh sunlight damages your cells, leaving you with a tan that doesn’t go for the next eight weeks. Keep splashing water on your face throughout the day, and massage your skin with fresh cream at night. Massaging your hands and legs with petroleum jelly at night makes the skin soft and supple.
29
Retain Pink Lips
Have your lips turned dark with overuse of cosmetics? Exfoliate them in the right way and get back your soft, pink lips. Scrub your lips with sugar and brush them with a toothbrush using a circular motion. Keep the lips moisturized with balms containing as little chemicals as possible. Do this daily and you will see the change for yourself.
Flash Your Sexy Nails
With a hectic routine, you may find it hard to hit the parlourfor a manicure or a pedicure. Worry not, just do this on a regular basis at home. All that you need is some crystalized salt, shampoo, warm water, and a nail cutter and filer set. Soak your palms and feet in warm water containing a little of shampoo and salt. Once the nails are soft, cut, file and shape them as you like. Experiment with different nail colours and nail arts to finish off with a professional touch. They carry their clothes with elegance and surpass many with their grace. The bride of Bengal exceeds all expectations. She is draped in a red, or a combination of red and white saree, in the traditional Bengali style. A red veil framed by a silver crown is placed on her head. The beautifully decorated forehead enhances her glow even further. The handpicked heavy jewelry completes her look.
The bride from Ladakh
The women in Ladakh wear a traditional dress called the ‘Goncha’ on their auspicious days. The brideswear the Gonchaon their wedding day also. The bride of Maharashtra

The bride from Maharashtra skips the trending lehengasand gowns featured in its Bollywood movies, and prefers to drape a nine-yard silk saree in the traditional Paithani style. She complements the look with wrists full of green bangles and a beautiful eye-catching nose pin. The half-moon bindi on her forehead is unique and unmissable. Yellow and green are the preferred colours for the saree, though some brides opt for other modern colour combina¬tions too. The attire is completed with her hair tied into a neat bun and decorated with flowers. A lovely silk shawl is draped across her shoulders to make her look her best.

The bride of Gujarat
Gujarat is the home of analluring range of designs and fabric. The brides from here leave no stone unturned to look fabulous on their wedding day. The style in which a Gujarati bride wears her saree is very innovative. The palla is taken from the back to the front and not from the front to the back as usual. The draping is finished by covering her head with the palla. Fabulous, hand-picked jewelrygives her a festive look.
The bride from Coorg
The bride from Kashmir
Coorg, a hill station in Karnataka, follows its own customs and traditions just as a state would. The brides retain their exotic style of draping a saree at weddings and all formal occaÂŹsions. The Coorg bride looks gorgeous with a perfect blend of the saree and jewelry style. A red veil covers her head and she is ready to stun all!
The bride from Kashmir arrives for her most awaited day in a heavy lehenga (skirt), which is studded with amazing stonework. A Kashmiri cap and a heavy matching stonework veil covers her head and hair. Her appearance becomes all the more captivating with chunky stone jewelry around her head and neck.
The most memorable part of an Indian wedding is, undoubtedly, the beauty and elegance of the bride on her special day... The bride from Karnataka
The bride of Karnataka wears a traditional look that resembles the Andhra and Tamil Nadu styles. On the auspicious day, you will see her adorned in a beautiful silk saree, picked very carefully from the extravagant Mysore silks range. She is bedecked with jewelry from head to toe and her hair is fragrant with a beautifully designed braid of jasmine flowers. A light makeup gives her a natural, yet glamorous look.
The bride of Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu is famous for its silk sarees. The state is also known for its art forms and temples, and the bride here reflects all the time-honoured customs and traditions of the state. The dress code of the bride is like a Bharatanatyam dancer (a dance form that is rooted in Tamil Nadu). She wears a beautiful and colour contrasting silk saree with heavy jewelry. The jewelry on her forehead is the focus of attraction in this look.

Geography
Hampi is a city in Northern Karnataka, recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO. It lies on the Deccan Plateau and, hence, has an average temperature of 40 degree C. The best time to visit the place is during the winter or the monsoon. From October to February are the best months. One must, however, avoid going here during the summer months as the scorching heat is intolerable.
Places to visit
The ancestors of this region have left behind a lot of art and literature for us to admire. There are many places here that you can add to your bucket list. The best among them include:
1. Virupaksha Temple: A beautiful temple
known for its age and creative art work. The temple was constructed during the 7th century and ranks among the oldest functioning temples. You can also take a stroll down the market facing this temple.
2. Elephant stables: The domes here
have a Persian touch to their architecture. This place was the house of royal elephants belonging to the Vijayanagar dynasty and is well worth a visit.
3. The Queen’s bath: This is the place
used by the queens and royal princesses to bathe. It is beautifully designed and enclosed such that no outsiders can get a glimpse of the interiors. This is one of the most beautifully built water-based structures at Hampi.
4. Matangahill: This is an ideal trekking expedition spot for foot explorers. The Matanga hill was once the home of Saint Matanga, a well-known sage in the epic Ramayana, and is the highest peak inHampi. 5. Shivling: An enormous monolithic
stone carved out as a Shivling standing majestically amidst water is a treat to the eye.

Your To-Do list at Hampi
How can you make your Hampi trip more adventurous? Here are some ideas you could implement during your holiday getaway at ‘The City of Ruins’.
1. Visit an island: Amused to read about an is-
land in a plateau? Yes, you have read it right. You can take a stroll with your loved ones on Hippie Island. The VirapapurGadde (the other name of the island) is located on the river Tunga and is five minutes away from the river bed. Tourists need to come here by boat. You can lose all sense of time as you enjoy the scenic view, perhaps with a glass of wine or beer in your hand.
2. Go trekking: If you have plans to carry your
bag packs and trekking boots with you, do not miss out on the opportunity to trek on the hills of Hampi. The Anjaneya hill and the Matanga hill are the two most chosen trekking destinations at Hampi.
3. Tread the archaeologist’s path: Become an
explorer and visit all the monuments and other historic places built here. The Monkey temple, Zenana enclosure and the Riverside Ruins are worth a visit.
4. Go on a pilgrimage: India has many cities that are packed with ancient temples and Hampi is one such abode of the gods and goddesses. Visit the Vitala temple, the Lotus temple and the Lord Narasimha temple, to name a few. 5. Ride a coracle: Coracles are huge, round basket like boats found floating on the river Tunga. Try riding one to get a whole new experience. 6. Shop at the local markets: Shopping is al-
ways fun. Hit the markets and shop for something that is famous at Hampi. You will find ancient coins, bags, toys for children and many more magnificent things.
Travel and Accommodation
Although Hampi is a land of memories of ancient times, you will find amazing hotels and resorts here. The pricing of rooms ranges from 2,000INR and soars up to 20,000INR for one night. You can also book cottages, homestays and suite rooms when you travel in large numbers. The place can be reached by trains, buses, cars and bikes. There are many car and bike rental stores where you can grab a bike and zoom around the city.
Bag pack check list 1. Pack your clothes according to the season you are planning to visit. For the summer wear light coloured sleeveless tees and crop tops with shorts, while the monsoons and winters call for something warm. 2. Pack according to your todo list. If you are planning to trek, carry a pair of hiking boots. 3. An umbrella is always a savior. 4. Take a camera with you wherever you go. The places in Hampi are mesmerizing and you need to take back images from this trip. August-2019 | Fashion Bud

But are you aware of other such places across the world that you could visit for sight-seeing or for a pilgrimage? Some of these have been built centuries ago by famous kings and rulers. If travel and exploration is in your blood, pack your bags and head towards these exotic places.
Abodes of God across the world
1. TANAH LOT, BALI How about going to a place of worship, which is on a high platform with the blue sea surrounding it on all sides? Make sure you visit the Tanah Lot temple in Bali, Indonesia. An enormous rock amidst the glimmering waters of the sea has been made into a fascinating temple. The continuous force of the dashing waves has carved
the shape of the temple into what you see today. This is said to be the place where the high priest Dang Hyang Nirartha meditated and dedicated the shrine to the Sea God Baruna. It is said that the bottom of the sea is home to venomous snakes that guard the shrine. Several small shrines are built in close proximity to this. The sea shore also
has many restaurants and smaller shrines. If you are a beach lover, visit this place on your next trip. If you are planning to fly to Bali, you need to book tickets to the Denpasar International Airport which is 13km from this place. You can also sail to this island. Car rentals and bike rentals are the other modes of travel in this city.
2. Arulmigu Rajkaliamman Temple, Johar – Malaysia This is the oldest temple of Johor Bahru, the heart of Malaysia, and is the only glass temple found in the country. Although the temple was built in 1922, it was adorned with glass in 1991. Three million tiles made of pure glass have been used in the beautification, along with countless glass beads and beautiful glass statues. The temple was built in veneration of Goddess Kali, but you can see beautifully sculptured glass statues of Buddha and Mother Teresa too. These statues bring a feeling of unity in spirituality and religion. It is a must-visit place if you want to savour the beauty of human art. Since Johor Bahru is a city with a large number of visitors and is densely crowded due to the influx of tourists, you can easily reach the temple with the help of numerous local transportation facilities. If Malaysia is on your travel list, make sure you do not end your trip without visiting this place. Fashion Bud | August-2019

3. Angkor Wat, Cambodia Have you ever wondered what the national flag of Cambodia depicts? Apart from the Summer and Lychee Fests that are celebrated with great pomp, this country is also known for one of the seven wonders of the world, The Angkor Wat. This is a 700-feet tall temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu initially, but with time, it became a Buddhist pilgrimage spot. It was constructed in the 12th century, during the rule of the Khmer emperors. The temple is spread across 400 acres and has magnificently engraved sculptures on its walls. These sculptures and engraved artworks depict the reign and prosperous times of the Khmer dynasty. A lake in the front of this huge monument acts as a mirror and reflects the entire front view. The dome is beautiful and can be seen from far. This is a must-visit place in everyone’s travel list.
4. ParoTaktsang, Bhutan This is a Buddhist monastery, dating back to the 8th century, located in the Paro Valley of Bhutan. It is known as the abode of Guru Padhmasambhavan who arrived at this place on the back of a tigress and meditated for three years, three months, three days and three hours to become the holy one. ‘Tiger’s Nest’ is the other name given to the temple, as there are two mythological stories behind the existence of the place. The first one says that the monk calmed the tiger demon that resided in the cave, and the second one says that YesheTsogyal, an empress who was a disciple of this great teacher, was transformed into a tigress and carried him on her back to this place. This place was a cave and is now one of the most beautiful sites to visit on a Buddhist pilgrimage. Since this temple is located in the mountain valley, you will have to trek to reach the place. Pack a pair of good walking shoes. There are expert trekkers who will help you reach this place safe and sound.
5.Karnak, Egypt Karnak is the largest temple in Egypt that took fifteen hundred years to be built. It covers more than 100 hectares and is located to the east of River Nile. This huge temple is dedicated to the God of Thebes, Amun-Ra. Each ruler during his reign implemented his own ideas and left a significant impression on this place. This huge sandstone structure looks like a zoomed out version of a sand castle. Egypt has other fantastic places to visit apart from this. Do visit Egypt and this amazing place too. You can choose any of the local transport services to reach here.

A talk
With the Doc Fashion Bud brings you the best advice from amazing doctors across the world. This edition is solely for the women and mothers out there. If you are carrying, or are planning to bring forth a new life, read the advice given by Dr. Chitra Ganesh, a doctor with 25 years of experience.
D
r. Chitra is currently working at Fortis Hospital, Bangalore, and runs her own clinic and scan centre called Karthik Ultrasound Scan Centre. She is specialized in Fetal Medicine, a branch of obstetrics, which deals with imaging the fetus and managing problems if any, identified by further investigations and in-utero treatment, as required. It also deals with genetic counseling and hand-holding the couple throughout pregnancy with respect to the well-being of the fetus. In short, Fetal Medicine consultants are the Physicians of the Unborn.
Let us have a look at what the doctor has to say. What inspired you to become a doctor?
My inspiration for becoming a doctorcame way back when I was in middle school. Everytime I visited our family doctor, Dr. Nambi in Chennai, I used to observe him with awe, the way he managed patients calmly. His gentle healing touch, soft voice and soothing words were a better medicine than all the medication he would suggest. The patients, who were tense and jittery in the waiting hall, came out calm and reassured. I realized then that being a doctor is one of the greatest services you can offer to mankind. When I got both my engineering seat in the most prestigious GuindyEngineering College and a medical seat at Stanley Medical College, my choice was very clear. I took my first step towards becoming a doctor. Fashion Bud | August-2019
Why a Fetal Medicine specialist? and Your journey as a life saver?
I started my practice as a family physician. In 1994, I got an opportunity to learn ultrasound under eminent professors, Dr. Suresh Seshadri and Dr. Indrani Suresh of Chennai. Fetal Medicine is a branch where the specialist does imaging of the fetus by ultrasound, and if problems are identified, the specialist has to distinguish them as lethal, non-lethal, correctable or non-correctable. Then the doctor has tocounsel the parents and manage the health of the fetus. At the end of the day, we Fetal Medicine specialists ensure that the couplegets correct information about the baby inside. It is soul satisfying work! I have been in the field for a little more than 25 years and I am enjoying every moment of it.
Walking is one of the best exercises in pregnancy. Meditation and simple yoga breathing exercises also keep the would-be moms engaged and relaxed and studies have shown that this benefits the fetus inside...
Can you tell me one inspiring moment from your long career?
Every day in the clinic is a new experience!I remember a couple who had come for their second pregnancy. The first child was 4 years old and normal. In the 5th month scan I had identified that both the legs of the fetus were bowed, what we call “Talipes foot and also one kidney was enlarged and showed an obstruction lower down. I explained to the couple what the defects meant, that they were not lethal abnormalities but could be effectively corrected once the baby was born. They only wanted to know whether these can be corrected after birth and wanted me to refer them to the concerned specialists. I was thoroughly overwhelmed by their positive attitude and determination that they will give the best to their baby. The pregnancy continued and, after delivery, they met the appropriate surgeons and undertook corrective treatment. When the child was 2 years old, The mother carried a video of the child before and after correction and also some photos showing the same. The kid was running all around the clinic. Both the legs looked totally normal. The mother told me to show the videos and photos to any parent who has a fetus with similar problems and encourage them not to lose heart, but to do everything for their child from in-utero only. She told
38
me that if not for my positive counseling, she would have aborted the baby, as many had advised her to do so. In this era of couples wanting designer babies and wanting to abort even when a treatable defect is identified, I was thoroughly inspired by this couple. There are many such instances when I felt that as a Fetal Medicine specialist I have done justice to the fetus!
Should a pregnant woman consult a doctor?
to be made once a month till 32 weeks. From 32 to 36 weeks, twice a month; and from 36 weeks till delivery, once a week. Total pregnancy is 40 weeks. If need be, the consulting doctor will modify the number of visits, depending on the condition of the patient.
What sort of exercises would you recommend for mothers-to-be?
Pregnancy, we should understand, is a nor-
When a pregnant woman goes into labourand begins to have pain due to uterine contractions or starts to leak fluid due to the breaking of her water, there is no need to panic. Many hospitals nowadays send their ambulance with doctors to pick up patients. It is preferable to avoid heavy meals before going to the hospital.
What are the treatments you would suggest to a woman who cannot conceive?
I would advise the woman, as soon as she suspects pregnancy or detects it by a home kit, she should consult an obstetrician. Mainly, because it is important to confirm that the pregnancy is in the right location — in the uterus. Nowadays, we do find cases where pregnancy is in the tube and if it is not detected early, it can be life-threatening for the mother. Ultrasound scans can help locate pregnancy as early as 5 weeks. Further check-ups will be chartered by her gynecologist.
When a woman comes to me with a complaint that she is not able to conceive, I ensure that I meet the couple together before I start the treatment. Almost every time it is the woman who comes for medical help and, of late, we are finding more cases where the problem lies with the husband. So it is important that both are investigated and treated. Investigations for the woman would begin with a good history, clinical examination, routine blood studies, hormonal profile studies, pelvic ultrasound, and tubal patency and so on.
What is the nutritionthat you recommend for a mom-to-be?
Apart from pregnancy and infertility what are the rising issues or disorders seen in patients visiting your clinic. Obesity, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), unmarried pregnancies are some of the issues which are on the rise nowadays. Sedentary lifestyle, junk food eating, and excessive social media involvement are some of the contributing factors.
A pregnant woman should eat a well-balanced diet. This will help in delivering a well-grown and healthy baby. As many moms-to-be have morning sickness with nausea, vomiting and aversion to food in the first 3 months, we advise them to take frequent, short meals and food that they can tolerate and not force feed themselves. More fluids must be taken at regular intervals. Once that phase is over, a daily balanced diet containing adequate protein, carbohydrates and fats should be taken. All seasonal fruits can be taken in pregnancy. Throughout pregnancy the stress is on good water intake, about 3 litres a day. In short, apart from spicy, deep fried foods and excess sweets, stimulants such as coffee/tea, alcohol and aerated beverages which have to be avoided, a pregnant woman can consume all the foods she is normally used to.
How many times must a pregnant woman visit the doctor?
As I had said earlier, the first visit should be when she suspects pregnancy. After which, in low risk pregnancies, which means the pregnancy is not under any risk due to factors like hypertension, diabetes, hypothyroidism, etc., visits to the doctor need

mal physiological process and the pregnant woman can continue to do the routine activities she is used to. Walking is one of the best exercises in pregnancy. Meditation and simple yoga breathing exercises also keep the would-be moms engaged and relaxed and studies have shown that this benefits the fetus inside. Having said this, when there are certain complications in pregnancy like low-lying placenta or when the uterus’ mouth is short (short cervix), it is important that they follow the restrictions in activity and exercises as advised by their doctor.

The Makeup Mogul
B
seemed quite tickled during her maiden visit to India for the India Makeup Show as she set out to explore the country’s culture, lifestyle and trends. In a tete-a-tete with Sweta Pendyala, the makeup expert, who boasts of a rich, diverse career, shared the story behind her transformation from a freelance makeup artist to a prosperous businesswoman owning brands, as well as keeping some little known makeup tricks up her sleeve. Bobbi Brown is an inspiration to millions, who aspire to venture into the world of beauty or are bitten by the makeup bug. The beauty and makeup expert, who gave a new meaning to makeup, left freelancing as a makeup artist and launched her own products after she gave birth to her first son. Believing firmly in makeup as a tool to enhance the beauty of a woman, she has now launched EVOLUTION_18, a brand of supplements that are a collagen-based collection, promoting beauty from the inside out. Excerpts of an interview:
Know what Bobbi prefers Don’t create that doesn’t exist I never been a fan of contouring, it’s just not my aesthetic. It tells women there’s something wrong with their face. There’s beauty in the entire face, so I don’t like to paint in a cheekbone that doesn’t exist.
In the makeup bag
I always have a moisturiser, concealer, black mascara, and a cream blush that can also work on the lips.

Cleaner brands and wise customers
Consumers are becoming more critically aware of the ingredients that are being used to make beauty products and this is bringing about a change in the manufacturing of products by major brands. This year, I expect a lot of healthy skin with sheer colours, glow and luminosity. The scenario indicates emergence of cleaner brands, which will focus on concept of beauty from inside out. I think industry has taken positive steps towards becoming more inclusive, but still a lot of work needs to be done.
SOCIAL MEDIA A boon as well as a bane
There are two sides of the coin. The filters and retouches on social media portray unattainable ideas of beauty, which can affect people’s self-esteem. It’s important for everyone to understand that a lot of what they see isn’t real. On the other hand, some genuine brands and celebrities who believe in individuality are now speaking out about the unrealistic beauty that is seen on social media. For some brands, social media is a platform to keep in touch with their customers and take their feedback. Several brands like Glossier, OUAI and others really utilise it, which reflects in the products they are create.
Enhance, don’t hide
I want women to realise that makeup is meant to enhance, rather than to cover
up, and true beauty lies in health and vitality. I’ve always believed that what you put inside your body is as important as what you put on your face. I love it when you can see freckles and lines. When you look like you, you look your best.
Indian makeup is vibrant
I love the range of makeup styles that Indian women use. Some like a more natural look, while others like to experiment with textures and colors, and transform themselves into works of art.
Preferred Indian celebs
I’d love to work with Priyanka Chopra. She is one of the most beautiful women on the planet and seems very down to earth and cool. I have been doing some research and I found Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and Sonam Kapoor also lovely to work with.
Lessons From The Legend Identify undertones
Everyone has yellow undertones in their skin, which is why pink-based foundations often look unnatural. Only people with very pale skin, the kind that gets sunburnt even in the shade, should use a pink-based foundation. When it comes to finding your correct shade, it is so important to actually test the colors on your face. You’ll never know if it’s the right colour for you or not, if you only apply it to the back of your hand. If the shade is right for you, it will disappear into the skin.
A runway-ready look: Start with hydrated skin, always. Finding a moisturizer that works for your skin type is the key to natural looking makeup. This is why you see so many models with face masks backstage; they are prepping their skin for makeup. Everything will look better on hydrated skin! Apply foundation only in the places you need it and use concealer to cover any dark circles under your eyes. The summer vibe: Show off your skin with
go with a bold, colorful lip. They key is not to overdo it.
The office look: My basic routine is a little
black eyeliner, a coat of mascara and a touch of blush. It adds a little more definition and color to a nude face.
The right shade: The right lip colour is always
based on three things: style, natural lip colour and skin tone. In general, the most flattering natural hue will either match or be slightly darker than your lips. Avoid shades lighter than your lips, especially those with gray or beige undertones, as they will make you look washed out.
Colour yourself right: For blush, women with tan, warm skin tones should choose an almost plum shade that looks like a rich pink when applied. For deeper skin tones, redder shades that have bluish tones like cranberry leave a beautiful finish.
sheer products that enhance your natural feature and create a glow. A light wash of colour on the lips and cheeks is perfect for summer.

Dos & Don’ts Apply eye shadow before any other makeup to clean up spills before adding concealer. Do not use undereye concealer to cover a blemish, as it is usually too light and will only highlight the blemish. Instead, pick a concealer made for the face and to cover the redness. The only way to purchase a right foundation is by applying it on your face. You should never decide by testing it on the back of your hand. Skip blotting lipstick. It indicates that you have applied too much or you have approached a wrong formula. Apply foundation only to the areas you wish to even out. Going for all over the face will give you less fresh and unnatural skin. August August -2019 -2019| |Fashion Fashion Bud Bud

Our best pick is a fancy chiffon or georgette sari, paired with a heavy work jacket, which is opaque rather than sheer. You can go for heavier and thicker fabrics like velvet or zari for the jacket during the winters. Cotton, linen or poly-viscose fabric for the jacket is preferable during the summers.

oes true love still exist in today’s pragmatic times? How would you know if you are in love, or if it is mere lust? What’s happening around us? Does he truly love you? Find the answers to the questions teasing your mind here. We live in a society where one longs for a companion with whom he or she can share all emotions and feelings. We need someone who understands us, who will offer us a shoulder to cry on, and who always stands by us… no matter what. But are our needs becoming wants for something else? A survey shows
PERSONALITY
that a large number of women, especially young ones, are falling prey to unscrupulous men, thereby getting physically and mentally exploited by them. Things would have been different if these women had stepped back and cross checked if they were with the right people. A few decades ago, the craving for someone’s company was purely for love. People wanted someone to make them feel special always. They wanted someone who would care for the smallest of their happiness and would cross the seas and borders only to make them smile. The craving of the present generation is completely different. ‘Making out’ is the new
meaning of love. One becomes so obsessed with the looks of the opposite gender and physical satisfaction, that he or she breaks all norms and becomes intimate first, and then thinks if he or she is in the right company. There are a million crocodiles just waiting to get hold of a woman’s body, use it, and leave without thinking how the other person feels. Things can change if we know clearly what we desire. Loving yourself is important before you find love outside. Love and respect yourself first and then others would do the same too. Make sure that you understand what the person who vows to love you really expects from you. Make sure it is love and not lust.

Find out what drives him crazy about you. Get to know if he loves your body or your soul. The one craving for your body will change as your body gets a different form; however, the one craving for your soul will be a part of you for a lifetime.
Know your desires
Look at what you miss the most when your partner is not around. Is it the company you long for, or is it the body you thirst for? If it is the body, get your equation right. You are lusting and not loving.

For the Workspace
D
ecades ago, society and the champions of its culture felt that women were meant to stay within the walls oftheir houses and take care of the home, the children and their families. With increasing gender equality and merging of roles, more and more women are dumping utensils and daily chores to embark on a journey of self-discovery, to create their own identity. The society has accepted this redefining of roles with a lot of difficulty, but today it is certainly easier for a woman to go out and compete with men at work. In addition to various work ethics, dressing the right way is a major work ethic in the checklist of working professionals. It is important to look your best at your workplace. You would have read articles and blogs about clothing ethics before loading your shopping cart. Here are some dress code hacks that are out of the box. You can follow these tips and outsmart the crowd.

Team up dresses with long coats This is an office look that you could try out with the casuals in your wardrobe. Pick your most favourite casual or formal knee-length or above-knee dress and match it with a blazer or long coat. This gives you a classy official look. Enhance this look with high heeled boots, a simple bracelet and dangling earrings. Make sure you do not mix and match a blazer with a party-wear frock. That would be a complete disaster.

The Workspac
Deck up in pastel suits A modern professional look of a woman at office is a black, brown or cream suit with a white or black shirt paired with it. This look can be upgraded with a change in the colour of clothing. Pastel colours such as baby pink, sky blue, peach, lemon yellow and ocean green are the latest trend. The suits can be customized with any of these colours, and one can wear a white or off-white shirt instead of contrasts. Studies have proven that these light shades boost energy in women and help them face any kind of a hectic schedule with a smile. Pair them with high heeled pumps or sandals, and complete the look by wearing a pair of ear studs and a steel wristwatch.
Experiment with the stole look
A formal pant and formal shirt is enough to give you an official look. Project a little more sophisticated look by wrapping a stole around your neck. You can go with a floral texture, checks, or simply a plain stole. Choose a pair of pump shoes, wear ear studs, and strap on an elegant watch on your wrist.
MAKEUP AT OFFICE Foundation – Avoid glossy and heavy foundations. Use something light on your skin. A BB cream is more than enough to give you a glamorous look. Eye shadow – Match your eye shadow with the clothing you wear. Do not wear greys, blacks and dark shades. Those are meant to be a part of party looks. Choose light brown or peach pink shades instead.
Go girly with skirts
Skirts should be among the ‘must own clothing’ in your wardrobe. If you haven’t picked one for yourself yet, go shopping and preferably purchase high-waist, knee-length ones. Pair them up with light coloured shirts or blouses that are neatly tucked in, slip on a pair of stockings and flaunt this look at office.
47
Liner and mascara – No dramatization is needed at office. Never try out smoky eyes. Keep the eye make-up plain and subtle. Lipstick – Choose nudes and light shades of pink and purple. Never use bright red and cabaret colours at office. Keep it simple and elegant. August-2019 | Fashion Bud

An exorbitant show
for Little Stars
E
very child is a born superstar. As children are the future of society, adults need to guide them along a path that gives them the right amount of exposure to the world. Manish Dev, the renowned founder and CEO of FOG Fashion Studio, took up the initiative of organizing an extravagant fashion show for the kids of Bangalore. For those who don’t know much about him, he is an ace fashion choreographer, designer and stylist, who has contributed immensely to the fashion world, internationally. The purpose of the event was to get the little ones outside the box and make them flaunt their style quotient in front of the Bangaloreans. A grooming and image consultant himself, Manish made sure that all the kids were decked up in their best. Over twenty tiny show-stoppers walked the ramp, parading both western and ethnic looks, and mesmerized the crowd who applauded them whole-heartedly. The event was an enormous success and the audience carried back smiles and memories from this show.

There are millions who have pouredtheir heart and soul into music and have brought a lot of fame to India. Indian Music Experience (IME), an organization that is renowned for upholding the rich legacy of the culture and tradition of Indian classical music, has now established its firstmuseum, dedicated to the great artists who have earned name and fame for the country. The launch event, held on the 27th of July, 2019, was an enormous success. Speaking on the occasion, the Founder of IME and Chairman of the Brigade Group, M. R. Jaishankar said that it took a long time and a lot of effort to set up this world-class museum and art centre in India. “We are certain that IME will grow to become a pre-eminent art hub of the country that will preserve and propagate India’s heritage,” he added. The museum is spread across 50,000 sq.ft. and is an innovative first-of-a-kind centre, located in Brigade Millennium of JP Nagar 7 phase – the heart of South Bengaluru. The museum, which is the result of a decade of planning and execution, houses over 108 musiFashion Bud | August-2019

cal instruments that have been played by musicians across India. In addition, you can learn about some ofIndia’s well-known but unsung musicians, who left a strong mark on music in their time. The museum director Ms. Manasi Prasad, a well-known classical vocalist, called the museum a centre of ‘music education’. In her talk, she said, “This will be a platform for all artists and art lovers to experience music.” The museum has a separate space dedicated to folk music, where one can see beautifully and artistically crafted puppets. There are many interesting and exciting corners–The Contemporary Expression that highlights the Indian rock music scene; The Living Tradition, which focuses on Carnatic and Hindustani classical music; The Melting Pot, which shares lesser known facts about instruments like the violin and harmonium; and the Songs of Struggle that shines a light on India’s patriotism during the days of our freedom struggle. But there’s even more to the place. As someone said, there is music everywhere and you only need a willing heart to hear it. You can experience this truism here in the amazingly conceptualized ‘Sound Garden’. You can hum into the ‘Humming Stone’ that works on the principle of full body resonance and witness the vibrations through your body. There are ‘Singing Stones’ that vibrate and produce music when touched with wet hands. In addition, you can also find a Sound Chime, Tubular Bells, Flower Gong, Storm Drum and other such unique items that produce sound. Veena exponent and Director, Outreach, Dr. Suma Sudhindra said, “Generations will walk through the IME galleries and will be thankful for the vision and hard work of the extraordinary people who have worked tirelessly to make this museum come alive.” The highlights of the grand inauguration included special recitals by the legendary UstadZakirHussain and Louis Banks along with Gino Banks, Sanjay Devacha and Sheldon D’Silva. If you want to have an unforgettable experience, do visit the museum andmeander through the history of Indian music at this amazing place.

The ones who stole the show at
Cannes - 2019
The Cannes film festival is what all the fashionistas look forward to every single year. This year marked the 72nd event of the much awaited fest and, as always, celebrities from across the world turned up to compete with each other and look the best. The event scheduled from 14th to 25th of May, 2019,has once again established its place as the best platform for designers and celebrities to showcase their talent. Here is a list of the most glamorous celebrities who stole the show and a million hearts.
Elle Fanning
Princess Aurora of the movie Maleficentonce again became part of the top ten lists. She wore shades of pink and kept her style simple, yet elegant. Her stylist Samanta McMillen has come out with the best collection of dresses whose colour, ambience and texture are mixed, matched and played with to be the best outfit of all. We spotted Fanning looking her best in the peach Gucci gown, Barbie pink ball gown and the Valentina botanical gown. Her day look included Dior’s hot couture, black, knee-length skirt paired with a pale peach blouse. She also wore a pastel pink suit and paired it with sandals instead of shoes. Her accessories were mainly from Chopard and her dresses paired with a collection of shoes from Dior, Laurence Dacade, Sophia Webster and others. Fashion Bud | August-2019

Priyanka Chopra
The dusky actress who was the centre of attraction at the Met Gala 2019 made her debut at Cannes 2019 with the same flair. She is an example of experimentation and, throughout the festival, was bold and fearless. Chopra set the ramp ablaze with her ‘in vogue’ looks. What caught everyone’s attention was the actress arriving with her husband, musician Nick Jonas. Her wardrobe collection for the fest included a lavish lavender dress by Fenni, in which the skirt had mermaid scales! This made her look like the queen of the fashion ocean. Her blue silk maxi, designed by Roberto Cavalli, was paired with a hat. She walked hand-in-hand with Jonas in her white gown, their outfits making them look nothing less than a couple from modern Disneyland. She later chose to go tangy with her orange red gown by Tommy Hilfiger. The Quantico actress also wore a shimmery black thigh-slit dress and looked sexier than ever at Cannes.
Selena Gomez
The 72nd Cannes Film Festival also marked the American actor and singer’s debut here. The young Gomez, who was battling mental and anxiety issues for quite some time, took to the ramp to make a comeback with a bang. Dressed in Louis Vuitton white, she made many hearts skip a beat. The 26-year-old actress brought the 80’s fashion into the limelight again with her navy blue crop top and high-waist bell bottoms. She looked spectacular throughout the festival.
Eva Longoria
The 44-year-old actress who turns heads grabbed headlines with an inspired wardrobe collection that also included dresses designed by her best friend, Victoria Beckham. Her Loreal team ensured she had the right glamorous, sparkling lookin all that she wore. From golden trousers teamed with a white blazer, toa shimmery silk pink gown, she knew how to stand out in a crowd and assert herself as the best. Longoria also wore a bright yellow jumpsuit which had a single off-shoulder cut, a shimmering gold maxi, a navy blue jumpsuit and many more stunning outfits. Her ten-month-old son, who made his first visit to Cannes, was the only one who could steal the spectators’ looks from his mama.
Allesandra Ambrosio
The actress who has been walking the ramp since she was 12 kept up her allure at this film festival too.She stole the limelight when she walked the ramp in a sizzling red dress with a flowing cape that swept the floor. This beautiful gown is a piece of art by Julien Macdonald, and Ambrosio paired it with strappy gold sandals designed by Zannoti. The long-legged model made jaws drop as she sashayed in her partial off-shoulder, thigh-slit white gown.

riven by the power of imagination, JD Institute of Fashion Technology is one of the top-notch art and design institutes in India with over 36 learning centers. Having been in the industry for over 30 years, the institute has now been awarded the Best Design School in India award by GLTS, London, and has developed into a center of excellence and learning. One of the most exciting times in the life of a fashion design student is participating in the annual fashion show. The ‘JD Annual Design Awards’ is the signature event of JD, which is conducted every year to bring out the best from students and send some down the runway. The theme of this year was ‘CURATOR’. Every collection had a unique approach and a well-crafted thought behind it. The designers explored unconventional fabrics, sourced from aloe vera plants and raw banana fiber, and were 100% organic. Each designer had a different take on the concept. One was inspired by the concept of terraforming, X-ray art and the idea of community inclusion. The collections presented by the students conformed to the three values of sustainability, innovation, and being eco-friendly that the institute believes in and encourages students to incorporate the same in their designs. Thrilled at the success of the show and lauding the students for their commendable efforts Mr. Nealesh Dalal, Managing Trustee at JD said, “It was an overwhelming experience to see our students shining at every step”.
