Pre-Fall 2 0 1 5

Collection

Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet has a tendency to pile it on to show every trend, every silhouette, every fabrication there is to show. The good news is that Bendet freed herself of fashion FOMO for Pre-Fall, instead focusing her efforts around a single inspiration: Loulou de la Falaise, the 1970s icon and muse to Yves Saint Laurent. “I loved her eccentricity and her strength,” said Bendet at her Meatpacking District studio. “She wasn’t a passive person.” Despite paring back a bit this season, Bendet still provided plenty to choose from. There were printed palazzo pants as wide as a ball gown; army green skinny denim with snakeskin accents; floor length jackets and vests worn over bell bottoms. Many fabrics were lush, including an orange brocade, satin embroidered with sequined paisley, and lots of suede. Darted mock turtlenecks on everything from a cropped suede shell worn with a matching pencil skirt to a fitted jacquard dress gave it all a modern polish.

Pastels gives you a fresh look and glows up your skin. Use a rich shade of peach for your lips with a touch of gloss and lighter tone to highlight your cheeks. Use fake thick dense eye lashes for your eyes. This will make your eyes look bigger, flirty and will get you amazing photos.

Waxing is the most excellent way of making your skin smooth and silky for longer, than any other method of hair removal. However, waxing has some negative points too, if you don’t do it right. It is always recommended to make your skin ready for waxing otherwise it could be a seriously painful experience for you.

Tips To Make Waxing Less Painful

7. Don’t assume that it would be easier and less painful if you try to remove your hair yourself. In fact, it might be hard and more painful because you can injure your skin if you pull the hair in the wrong direction.

1. Applying a skin numbing cream or gel before waxing, will make the skin less sensitive. You can also pop an aspirin or ibuprofen around thirty minutes prior to waxing. Taking a pain-relief pill is helpful if you are going to wax in most pain provoking areas like upper-lip, chest and bikini areas.

help reduce the pain. Use slightly coarse exfoliation gel so as to remove dead cells from the skin’s pores. This will eventually helps in a smooth and easy removal of hair. There are several excellent quality body scrubs available in market, specifically prepared for waxing purposes.

2. Don’t just look for an aestheticism or cosmetologist, instead, find someone with lot of experience. An experienced hair removal expert would know which type of wax is best for your skin; thus using wax of the right thickness. Pulling the hair in the right direction is also very important; only an experienced professional would take care of all these aspects while waxing.

5. Refrain from applying astringent or toner, as they will tighten the pores, strongly holding the hair follicle. So avoid applying them before you get waxed.

8. Calm down and don’t stress your body while waxing the sensitive areas. A relaxed person can definitely deal better with the pain than a stressful one.

6. Don’t apply ice for numbing the skin. Many people believe that ice is a perfect thing for numbing the skin so it might also decrease the waxing pain, but this is not true. If you use something cold on the skin, it will actually tighten your skin-pores.

9. Always remember that you should not wax ears and nose, similarly sun-burned skin, bumps, moles and pimples shouldn’t be waxed either. You might end up hurting yourself.

4. Exfoliating prior to waxing will certainly

Evocative atmospherics, wonderfully apt cinematography, sharp editing (no mean achievement in a film that has so many characters jostling for attention) and a clutch of measured performances (notably by Ronit Roy, Vineet Kumar Singh and Girish Kulkarni) make Ugly a compelling enough film. This may not be Anurag Kashyap’s best film, but it is infinitely and indescribably better than all the muck that mainstream Bollywood passed off for entertainment this year.

A 10-year-girl, left alone in a car in a busy Mumbai neighbourhood, disappears. Her actor-father and his casting agent-friend go to a nearby police station to lodge a complaint.

Ugly does, however, provide unsettling insights into the ugliness of human selfishness and greed. The film has three main characters – an aspiring actor waiting for a breakthrough in films (Rahul Bhatt), his alcoholic former What ensues is by far the best-written scene wife (Tejaswini Kolhapure) and a vicious in Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly, a disquieting noir police detective (Ronit Roy) who is now the thriller that hinges on a slew of dodgy charac- woman’s husband. ters prone to dangerous temptations. Every step that each of them takes only makes matters much worse than they already are. The build-up of tension is swift but somewhat mechanical. It becomes obvious soon enough that none of the characters is completely above suspicion. With the exception of the aforementioned inspector, the dangerously desperate people that we see on the screen are too intent on self-preservation and singularly devoid of humour.

The screenplay and the directorial methods are direct and realistic. The film is shot largely in dimly lit spaces, reflecting the darkness of spirit that is on show here. Ugly works best when it focuses on the depression-afflicted woman who contemplates different ways of committing suicide. She is the most vulnerable of the characters and, as a hopelessly trapped woman caught between two men who make no effort to understand her, comes the closest to evoking a degree of sympathy. Reflects an Incredible Talent

When we hear about Pakistan, first thing that comes to mind is that the country who supplied FIFA 2014 world cup’s footballs. But it is also famous for manufacturing high quality surgical goods, handicrafts, textile products and the beautiful Northern Areas of Pakistan. Because of political instability and strong impact of religious extremist groups, Pakistan has been under constant jeopardy. Even though that traditional gurus and established religious clowns put individuals and society under extreme pressure and keep them from expressing themselves, there is adequate activity to show that the society is modern. Music is now being considered as a medium of expression and accepted as an entertainment tool. Some incredible talent in the shape of Meesha Shafi, Salman Ahmad, and Hadiqa Kiyani, to name a few. Indeed these melodious ones have become inspirations for the youth. The progress, fame, appreciation, and success of these celebs have proven that solid determination brings forth the desired results. An interview was conducted with Meesha Shafi, a pop icon of the country. Meesha Shafi is an internationally known and recognized model, songwriter, actress, and singer. She was part of Bhag Milkha Bhag (a Bollywood super hit movie) and The Reluctant Fundamentalist (a Hollywood Project) along with many other Pakistani projects such as Meesha Shafi Project. She is an excellent communicator and conversation with her was extremely interesting and exciting.

It’s not easy to keep yourself up to mark with as many daunting tasks as you are working on especially when you are a mom, how do you manage to keep a balance? Tell us a bit about your efforts to get back in shape and tone your body after giving birth? I didn’t do anything the first time around, but this year I gave birth to my second child and have been committing to some running and yoga thrice a week. I was very athletic in school and have been blessed with good genes and a great metabolism (thanks mom and dad!). I can’t stand gyms and machinery so I prefer the great outdoors and a lifestyle which is more fluid, more organic and holistic. Yoga has been great because it’s teaching me how to clear my mind and declutter. I also eat healthy and cook a lot for my family. I find that to be very rewarding. These are exciting projects for me and will be for my fans too I’m sure, since Pakistani Cinema is having a hugely significant re-awakening and I’m really happy to be a part of it

Your favorite US artist with whom you would do anything to perform live on stage? The Foo Fighters!

We hear so many things about Pakistan’s political instability, religious extremism, and conservative societal approach. On the same time we see great inspirational personalities such as yourself coming to the big stage and approving themselves that they have all the necessary skills to compete with any one. Tell us how you manage to survive, learn, and prosper in such an environment? It’s all about inner peace. When the world around you is going crazy, and you can’t control external factors, the best thing to do is tune out the negativity and focus on the good stuff. It sounds like a cliché but it works!

Tell us about your upcoming projects? I have a personal policy of never talking about upcoming projects till they are ready to go. It’s much more fun to share experiences and information regarding a project that has already been released. But I can tell you that there are some phenomenal tracks coming up on a few local film OSTs. Produced by different music producers with varying strengths in their field.

When can we expect to see you performing in the USA?

Tell us something that you never have told anyone else in an interview?

Tell us about your upcoming projects?

What cultural differences did you observe while working in very different entertainment industries?

Hopefully in 2015!

I have a personal policy of never talking about upcoming projects till they are ready to go. These are exciting projects for me and will be for my fans too I’m sure, since Pakistani Cinema is having a hugely significant re-awakening and I’m really happy to be a part of it.

There was a time when I very seriously wanted to be a paleontologist.

There are several cultural differences amongst the various industries I’ve experienced. But that only makes it more exciting and memorable. It’s also a great way to learn something new and gain exposure every time.

Tell us about the funniest incident that happened at the sets of The Reluctant Fundamentalist?

Well it was a very intense film to shoot and I was working with some huge names on camera and on the crew. We had great fun but the filming was not without its challenges. No work is easy when you’re pouring your heart and soul into it. The funniest was when Kiefer Sutherland and I were getting our portraits done side by side and I couldn’t focus after doing a gazillion shoots throughout my career. I was so star struck!

We hear so many things about Pakistan’s political instability, religious extremism, and conservative societal approach. On the same time we see great inspirational personalities such as yourself coming to the big stage and approving themselves that they have all the necessary skills to compete with any one. How do your modeling and acting skills support your singing and vice versa?

I definitely feel a big advantage when it comes to being an all-rounder because of these different areas I have worked in over time. Singing live on stage, recording in the studio, shooting for a music video or a film, modeling as a muse for someone else’s vision are all interconnected. What I learn from one of these things I have applied in another. For example, just because someone can sing doesn’t mean they can perform in front of a camera etc. The journey has been great. A grueling training which has resulted in the performing artist that I am today. My skill set has grown because of this over time and I feel it puts me in a stronger position to expand my horizons.

Do you write your own lyrics?

I write a lot of my own lyrics but have re-invented some classics as well. It’s sad that people forget some of the great work that songwriters/singers left behind. I’m glad reproducing them has become a popular way of introducing them to the younger generation.

Your first ever celebrity crush? Michael Jackson!

Tell us about the moment when you figured out that you are an artist. Was it when you started painting during your college days or you knew it since your childhood that you are going to enter entertainment industry?

Very early on. I grew up in a house full of writers, actors, painters so the influence and encouragement was definitely there from the start. I’ve been painting, performing and singing as far back as I can remember. I had other interests along the way, but I’m glad I stuck to the performing arts and fine arts. I have always had a strong inclination and I don’t regret the direction I took at all. I love my work and it has been more gratifying than I ever hoped it to be.

You come from a family of artists, tell us who influences your work the most? Do you try to copy any one of them?

There are many artists and creative minds in my family. My mother is a living legend in television and my grandfather was a celebrated writer/intellectual and worked endlessly to raise issues revolving around tolerance and humanity. He was one of a kind and in my humble attempt to be a big person; I can only try to copy him.

Your favorite song (Hollywood) that you can’t resist dancing to! Who is your favorite singer, why? Old school hip hop really gets me moving. But as far as singers go, Florence Welch is phenomenal. Such a power house!

The development of social skills starts from the beginning, when a child is born. It is not something your little one would learn at a specific age, when the damage is done you won’t be able to undo it but don’t worry it can be improved.

6) Appreciation:

This article provides you a straight away, guide, how to develop social skills in your child.

How to Develop Social Skills In Your Child 1) Remember your own Responsibilities: Parents are the one who can build these skills in their child, until unless you will set a better example in front of your child, he/ she won’t learn it properly. It’s your duty to know about the nature, weaknesses, and the strengths of your child. Once you’ve analyzed them, work upon it. Check whether he/she listen to others? Follow the steps and rules? Can ignore distractions? Can ask for help? Take turns when you talk? Stay calm with others and get

along with others and lastly check is your little one responsible for his/her behavior too? and lastly check is your little one responsible for his/her behavior too? If not, then it means the social skills in your child are not developed properly and there is an urgent need to improve them.

he/she fails too. Encouragement by parents boost confidence in a child, which has a very positive effect on the personality of a child. Never ignore your child, even unknowingly. Listen to the stories and incidents your child shares with you.

3) Opportunities to Practice the Social Skills:

Kids learn from their parents and learn far more from their friends so more the exposure, more strong your child’s social skills would be. Let your child make friends and go with them to parties and get together but in a limit. You can even arrange events in your home and invite friends of your child and neighbors. This would enable your child

At every stage of our life we need appreciation and likes it, so do our children. Always appreciate them for everything they do. Appreciate their ideas, opinions and satisfy your child with your answer. In this way children feel comfortable with the family members and share their desires, needs and thoughts with parents. Not only this appreciation boosts confidence in children and they think that they are good enough to play with other kids and peers. Teach children to appreciate the people around them too.

7) Teach to Respect Others Along with Self Respect:

If you would help your friend or anyone then your child would definitely observe you and learn it, in every case you have to set an example. Teach your child to respect the feelings and property of family members, friends and someone they know.

urveen hawla: Sex Sells in Bollywood

Surveen Chawla seems to be on a roll, what with her bold performances in ‘Hate Story 2 and ‘Ugly’ finding appreciation both with the critics and the masses alike. In a quick chat, Surveen talks about her upcoming films, what being bold means to her and why she chose films over television. You had a good girl image when you did television. Has it been a conscious effort from your side to play versatile characters in films?

No conscious effort to maintain the versatility. I just feel blessed to be able to do different characters. ‘Hate Story 2 was a commercial film with solo protagonist, put on my shoulders. Followed by ‘Ugly’ which is, I wouldn’t say dark but a greyer film. What has been panned out now is why I said bye to television because TV had bought monotony and stagnancy in my life.

To me, yes TV gives hefty pay cheques, but then I had to take risk. And I am much happier. Versatility has just come to me.

Barun Sobti told us in an interview that television gets redundant. Do you agree to him? It does get redundant. I don’t just see stagnancy in terms of an actor, but even in terms of personal growth. I stagnated as a person when I was doing television. I wanted to grow, explore and television didn’t give me opportunity to do that.

Does being bold come naturally to you? I am

quite a bold person. In personal life as well, I don’t give a damn to what others think of me. I do not mince words and don’t like to please people. It does come naturally to me. The first time I ever wore a bikini in personal life, none of my friends thought it was a right choice to do that. Why I am stating this is, because the moment you expose and wear short clothes, they term you as bold. But my definition of being bold is to be opinionated and speak your mind. My characters in ‘Hate Story 2 and ‘Ugly’ are exactly like that. But sad part of the industry is that they stereotype you.

Bipasha Basu has been typecast in horror films. Do you see yourself being stereotyped in roles that demand sexuality?

It’s happened to be that way. But firstly sexuality is not a taboo. To begin with, people have to be comfortable with their own and others sexuality. I haven’t been doing such roles deliberately. It is not for publicity. When I did a ‘Hate Story 2, it was promoted that way. It was not in my hands and I don’t feel objectified by it. Let’s face it, for a newcomer, why will someone come to watch a film? I am not a brand, Jay Bhanushali is from TV and the director

was a newcomer, so then why? Sex does sell. But I don’t look at it that way. If ‘Hate Story 2 was an erotic thriller, you wouldn’t see me as a part of it. But after the film is made, it is producer’s prerogative on how to promote the film. I can’t have much say in that.

Are you comfortable doing ensemble films?

At the time when ‘Ugly’ was offered to me there were two reasons – firstly it was my first film, secondly it was my debut film and that too with Anurag, so putting things together it was a great start. Anurag loosens you up. He makes sure that you just let go. Going forward, an ensemble would excite me if the role is good. It is not about the screen time. I am greedy, I want all of it. Screen space has nothing to do with the success of an actor.

Which are your forthcoming films?

Post this, you will see me in ‘Parched’, a Leena Yadav film, where I am playing a nautch dancer. It is a much layered film. And then a glamorous avatar in a song in ‘Welcome Back’.
