HUM Network presented Telenor Bridal Couture Week; Day 3 took place on December13, 2014 at Faletti’s Hotel, Lahore. Day 3 of the 9th Bridal Couture Week A/W 2014 in collaboration with Telenor to be held in Lahore on December 12th, 2014. The final day of Pakistan’s most anticipated bridal show, Telenor Bridal Couture Week 2014 attracted a huge number of celebrities, socialites and fashionistas. The audiences were treated to the beautiful aroma of fresh flowers and fun activities in the foyer area, where they captured the fun moments in the beautifully designed lounges amidst fresh flower arrangements, and were further enthralled by the change in décor of the ramp area. Day 3 started with the collection of Mini Bindra’s who showcased her TBCW 2014 Collection “Rubaaiyat-e-Khayyam”. Designer Mini Bindra’s luxurious collection titled Rubaaiyat-e-Khayyam is an ode to famous poet Omar Khayyam’s Rubaaiyat, which is a collection of short poems on love. Hence, the couture line too is an amalgamation of short sub-collections of beautiful fabrics fused with her modern design sensibilities.

The intricate embroideries highlight the palette in muted shades of cream, beige, black and gold with the occasional use of Persian red. The brilliantly professional N-Pro and N-Gents has managed the grooming of more than 30 male and female models in Day 1 with the season’s hottest hair and makeup trends.

any car shoppers want to choose an American car, whether it is to maintain brand loyalty or to put their payments toward stimulating the national economy. Thing is, defining “American has become increasingly difficult in this global market.

The good news for car-buying patriots is that American-made products are available from most mainstream brands. Of course, many models from traditional American nameplates are imported, especially from Canada and Mexico.

For this list, we focused on the vehicles that scored highest in our road tests that are built in the USA - meaning assembled in the lower 48 states. Further, we emphasized choices that use domestic engines and transmissions. A couple models here stretched the rules a little since some powertrain components may come from elsewhere. Embarrassingly, perhaps, it’s easier to find great all-American cars that have Japanese nameplates than Detroit labels.

Built in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since the 1980s, “America’s Sports Car” moved into its seventh generation for 2014. With its 460-hp V8, the newest Vette delivers ferocious acceleration, precise handling, and excellent braking, all for thousands less than such high-performance competitors as the Porsche 911. With the adjustable driving modes the car can be a civilized cruiser or track-ready race car. While the seven-speed manual gearbox is made in Mexico, the new eight-speed automatic is a GM design made in Toledo, Ohio.

Large SUV: Chevrolet Traverse Base MSRP price range: $30,995 $43,935

Sports Car: Chevrolet Corvette Base MSRP price range: $54,000 $83,000

One of the better three-row SUVs, the quiet and comfortable Traverse seats up to eight, handles with agility, and has a steady ride. A recent freshening brought the better MyLink infotainment system and head restraints. Handling is relatively agile and secure, and the Traverse steers nicely. The Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia are close cousins. The Traverse is assembled in Lansing, Mich., with a V6 and a six-speed transmission also made in Michigan.

Luxury SUV: Acura MDX Base MSRP price range: $42,765 $56,980

A hallmark of Honda’s luxury Acura division, the MDX is easy to live with. Comfortable, quick, and quiet, it offers generous space for five. In a pinch, it can accommodate seven if third-row passengers aren’t too big. The 3.5-liter V6 and six-speed transmission are smooth, silky, and provide competitive acceleration. We measured an excellent 20 mpg overall. The MDX is made in Lincoln, Alabama, with powertrains manufactured at Honda’s Ohio factories. With seating for seven or eight in a pinch, the excellent Highlander handles responsively and has a steady, absorbent ride and comfortable seats. The 2.7-liter four cylinder and the smooth 3.5-liter V6 are matched to a six-speed automatic. Hybrid models use the V6 with an electric motor and a CVT. In our tests the AWD V6 Highlander averaged 20 mpg, while the Hybrid got 25 mpg. It’s assembled in Indiana using a V6 powertrain made in West Virginia.

Midsized SUV: Toyota Highlander Base MSRP price range: $29,415 $49,990

Midsized Sedan: Honda Accord Base MSRP price range: $22,105 $35,055

The Accord has long been an excellent car, with impressive overall road test scores, fuel economy, and reliability. The current Accord is very spacious inside, it rides and handles well, and both the V6 and four-cylinder are smooth and fuel-efficient. We got 30 mpg overall with the Four and 26 mpg overall with the V6. Reliability has been average or better for all versions of late. It’s assembled in Marysville, Ohio, with powertrains coming from other Ohio Honda plants. A perennial best seller, the well-rounded Camry has an absorbent ride, good handling, and a well-made, comfortable, convenient interior. It was reskinned for 2015, with refinements made throughout. Most Camrys are assembled in Kentucky with overflow coming from an Indiana plant co-operated with Subaru. The V6 powertrains come from Kentucky, while the four-cylinder engine is made in Alabama.

Midsized Sedan: Toyota Camry Base MSRP price range: $22,970 $31,370

Large Sedan: Chevrolet Impala Base MSRP price range: $27,060 $40,660

One of our highest-rated vehicles, car or truck, the Impala is spacious, comfortable, very quiet, and engaging to drive. The V6 accelerates and brakes capably, with secure and responsive handling. It even rides like a luxury sedan, feeling cushy and controlled. The full-featured cabin stays very quiet, with a sumptuous backseat and a huge trunk. The V6 version is assembled in Oshawa, Ontario, while the four-cylinder is made at GM’s Detroit Hamtramck plant and its transmissions are made in Warren, Mich. The newest Avalon looks stylish and handles well. Its quiet interior is well made, luxurious, and spacious, even though rear seat room isn’t quite as generous as expected. The lively 268-hp V6 is teamed with a smooth sixspeed automatic and delivers a commendable 24 mpg overall. The hybrid’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder is teamed with an electric motor, returning an impressive 36 mpg overall. Upscale materials and finish details give the spacious cabin a lush, luxurious ambiance. The Avalon is build alongside the Camry in Kentucky with powertrains sourced out of West Virginia.

Large Sedan: Toyota Avalon Base MSRP price range: $32,285 $41,700

Minivan: Honda Odyssey Base MSRP price range: $28,975 - $44,600

The ultra-practical Odyssey is a versatile hauler that combines clever and generous packaging with responsive handling and a supple ride. The Odyssey can seat eight with ease, with varying configurations for cargo and passenger needs. Easy access, excellent child-seat accommodations, and abundant cabin storage add to the family-friendly quotient. The Odyssey is built in Alabama and uses a good, strong V6 and a smooth six-speed transmission both made at Honda plants in Ohio. The Tesla Model S is a great four-door luxury sporty car that happens to be electric. A large, low-slung hatchback, it easily seats five, or seven with the optional rear-facing jump seats. With its optional 85 kWh battery, the largest available, it can travel between 180 and 225 miles per charge and can be fully charged in as little as five hours on a dedicated Tesla connector. Performance is exceptional, with thrilling acceleration, pinpoint handling, and a comfortable ride. The Model S is made in Fremont, California, at a former GM/Toyota facility. Tesla itself builds the complex armor-plated battery packs for the Model S, using thousands of small battery cells sourced from Panasonic.

Electric Car: Tesla Model S Base MSRP price range: $69,900 - $104,500

43 In big cricket matches, a team field its best playing XI and do not experiment. Unfortunately, Pakistan never remember this simple formula. The much-hyped match between Pakistan and India turned out to be an easy outing for the men in blue on a batting paradise in Adelaide. The 76-run emphatic victory lifted India’s record to 6-0 against Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup and Pakistan might have to wait for another four years to break this jinx.

India, I must admit, did its homework brilliantly. The way Shikhar Dhawan built the innings with Kohli, Misbah-ul-Haq seemed to have virtually no plan against them. Both the India batsmen waited for the lose deliveries and even nullified all the much talked about pace and height of Mohammad Irfan.

EXPERIMENTATION Pakistan bowlers also bowled too short and on batting wickets, it’s one of the worst choice of a fast bowler. Pakistan team brigade of wonders around the not one

management also forgot that the India batting has done against spinners all world. Pakistan fielded or two, but three spinners! Expecting leg-spinner Yasir Shah to come out and do wonders in only his second ODI, is perhaps asking too much. India batsmen looked at ease against him and the leggie was smashed for 60-odd runs in his eight overs! Relying on the left-arm spin of Haris Sohail was another big gamble and against solid batting oppositions, he won’t be effective at all on pitches in Australia and New Zealand.

It’s a fact Younis had been struggling in ODIs. The earlier we accept this cruel fact, the better it will be for Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. He is trying to find some unique technique to come into form and this led to his another early downfall when he gloved a short pitched delivery. If you are not an opener you tend to struggle against the new ball and if you are not in form, it only compounds your problems.

There were no demons in the wicket, but simply irresponsible shot selection cost Pakistan the match as it shuffled the batting order only to accommodate Younis. “ Pakistan was still in the match until the pressure of scoreboard ran onto Ahmed’s mind and he played a rash stroke after doing all the hard work. Only a miracle could have got Pakistan through after Pakistan lost Umar Akmal and Sohaib Maqsood for noughts, and Misbah’s 76 only reduced the margin of defeat. What it just needs is to field the right combination and look for specialists instead of accommodating players who are not in form! Remember Pakistan should come first and not the individuals.

“True, Pakistan lost the all-important toss, but that doesn’t mean it should throw in the towel from the onset.”

The only positivity in Pakistan’s bowling was the five-wicket haul of Sohail Khan, but it came at a time when 300 was always on the cards as Kohli had had done enough damage with his two century stands.

Despite Misbah saying at the toss that Younis will open the innings, I was hoping Pakistan might tinker with its batting line-up after conceding 300 runs. I was expecting Shahid Afridi to open the innings with Ahmed Shehzad and look for some quick runs. But sadly, the team management didn’t read the situation.

Having started off his career through the prestigious plat-

Disney

, form of French heartthrob Abbas Hasan is no stranger to the limelight. Over the years, the star has gone on to win titles such as Artist Of The Year and The Next Big Thing through esteemed publications such as Hello! India. Abbas is regularly seen making news for his association with Bollywood bigwigs such as Shreya Ghoshal, Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and the King SRK himself! Abbas just released his latest single which is a collaboration with DJ Khushi, who is also Shahrukh Khan’s official DJ. The track is topping charts everywhere, and we at Fashion Central got a chance to catch up with Abbas exclusively.

A

li Abbas

1. So let’s start with the release of your collaboration with DJ Khushi. How did this happen? What was the experience like of working with a renowned DJ like him?

After touring with Shahrukh Khan and doing an advert with him, I found it funny when I discovered that Khushi is his official DJ. Khushi is known as the party king in Bombay and he’s always on the decks at every major industry event, whether it’s Filmfare Awards or Zee Cine Awards so we happened to cross paths many times in different countries and at different events over the past two years. Then finally at the Times of India Film Awards in Vancouver I was there to perform and he was DJing, and we had a lot more time to connect musically and discuss ideas.

4. Which songs are you listening to lately?

My taste in music is disturbingly eclectic. I’m listening to everything from Avicii to Abida Parvin. But mainly these days I seem to be oscillating between rock music, dance music and middle-eastern music.

5. Did your family ever have doubts about your career choice or have they always been supportive?

I’m really grateful to my family for always being so supportive. When you decide to become an artist it’s often a tough transition for your close ones to constantly be reading different things about you in the news and hearing others talking about you. But my family’s really cool and being an artist is something

2. How has the response to the song been so far? I was really pleased and surprised at the response, specially considering that remixes don’t usually get so much attention. It’s really cool to see “Jaan Ke Vaaste” be rediscovered in Asia with a new more club-oriented twist. It just made sense to share it with the fans as a treat and it’s exciting to hear it’s pounding from clubs in Mumbai to London!

to be celebrated rather than stifled. 3. It is believed that a singer’s songs reflect personal experiences. Is that true 6. Since this interview is with Fashion in your case? Do you draw inspiration from real life while working on music? Central, could you please share some I think every artist is different. For me, every fashion tips with our readers? What is song is something very personal and I feel it your own fashion style like? always bares a different part of me. My songs are often inspired by personal experiences, or something I’m feeling, thinking or even dreaming about. But I think my fans respond the way they do because ultimately everything I do comes from a sincere place. When I get into studio I always work on something that moves me - whether physically, as in the case of dance music, or emotionally for example when I write ballads. Each song is a different journey.

Well it’s been very flattering to be called a style icon in the press, but I think it’s just a result of growing up in Paris. To be honest I never over-think it too much. I just wear clothes that express how I feel and that I feel comfortable in. I’m often drawn to designers that push boundaries such as Alexander McQueen or Jean Paul Gaultier and that’s why it’s always special when I get to collaborate with such big fashion houses.

S

ometimes it’s hard to stay in touch when I’m traveling all over the place but you’re always in my heart and I try and reply as much as possible. I love to hear from you all and stay in touch.

7. You have been touring a lot with Bollywood stars. Can we expect a track in a Bollywood movie from you in the future?

I have to try really hard not to reveal anything! Yes, the past year’s been amazing and touring with Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Shreya Ghoshal etc was an incredible experience. I think headlining at the Times of India Film Awards has been a real highlight and all I can say is that you guys should stay tuned to see what’s coming next!

Sometimes my style team turns up the volume and we go a little eccentric like we did for Fashion Parade in London, where I turned up wearing a ‘medieval punk’ look complete with armour and fur. I think it’s cool not to take it too seriously and sometimes just have a sense of humour with it. But for the most part I love my classics. It’s about having tailored blazers and sophisticated pieces that fit your body well. 8. You are also an 10. Your last music actor and model bevideo with Humaisides being a singer. ma received a great Which out of these response from Pakithree do you enjoy stan - especially your doing the most? on-screen chemistry Deep down I always with her. Which perconsider myself a musonality do you plan sician first and foreon working with in most, because I think your next video? that’s my language as an artist. It’s the medium that I connect with most. But Acting and modelling bring out another side of me. I had an amazing time going to India and working with a Filmfare award-winning director on my South Indian debut film. Modelling was what got the ball rolling for me in the UK and I guess I enjoy it most when I work with someone who has a creative vision and something different to say through images or fashion.

9. What has been your career’s turning point?

There have been so many incredible moments that it’s hard to define one turning point. Working with Disney as a child help develop my music foundation, but then I suppose getting signed by Rishi Rich was the real turning point for me when I moved to London. My debut single with him hit number 1 and it started this crazy journey for me. Since then I’m grateful for all the amazing twists this global journey is taking me on.

I find it amusing to see all the girls the press keep linking me to regarding my upcoming projects. The only thing I can tell you for sure is that it’s not Freida Pinto or Mahira Khan!

11. Message for your fans in Pakistan? I just want to say a huge thank you to all my amazing fans in Pakistan. Your love and support always means so much to me and I can’t wait to come over and perform for you in person.

The classics never go out of style and the trendy statement pieces add swagger to your look. I always feel the need to be comfortable in what I wear. Fashion is not fun when it hurts! Something I always make sure of is never to be delusional. No matter how much I want to wear a new trend or an old classic, if it’s for my body shape, personality or appropriate to the occasion I, even if reluctantly, do say no. So I mix it up, I keep it stylish, comfortable, honest and hip!

Q5. What aspects of a consumer do you We should be able to enjoy shopping in our keep in mind while doing fashion buy- own town, without having to pay unreasonable amounts. That’s why I spend innumeraing? Obviously I consider different aspects like where we live; we have social, religious and climate restrictions. I have to also keep in mind tastes and consumer behavior of my clientele. Punjabis love to look good and they love to over dress, that’s the reason I don’t bring anything too casual, also I buy for a wide variety of people, I do proper fashion forecasting and study body types before going for a buying trip. This makes my merchandise cater to such a wide variety of target market.

ble hours sourcing good quality merchandise.

Q9. What are the major trends for this winter?

Jackets and coats are everything which goes this season. From crop jackets, leather jackets to the classic bomber, there was a bit of everything on the high street in Europe. Coats both oversized and classic, such as the trench were visible in window displays on Oxford St. The knits were a little cropped and paired beautifully with dress pants and jeans both. Boots, boots, boots; they were of course everywhere. Long, mid, ankle, but, for the more adventurous, thigh high are the fad for this season.

My personal style is classic/elegant. That is usually my first preference. However I also enjoy loud, glittz and glamour at times. After all I am a true Punjabi at heart! Q6. What do you have to say about the visual merchandising of the store?

Our visual merchandising is different because I believe in giving people a space where they enjoy. I don’t want money; I want my clientele to have an experience. We have request list as well. We want to make our client feel special as our slogan says be spoilt.

Q7. What sort of jackets are in fashion? Oversized jackets and classic trench coats.

Q8. What are your Price points?

I work very hard to source affordable and envogue fashion. Despite travelling cost, shipping, customs and many other overheads, I keep my prices as close to tag price as possible.I have no desire to charge double and triple of what my client would pay if they were to purchase the same abroad.

Q10. What do we have in store this winter?

Cozy but glitzy collection of knits, snoods, scarves, shawls, fur stoles, Burberry inspired capes, shimmering leather and woolen tights, stockings, fuzzy socks and slippers, snuggly nightwear, comfy but attractive lingerie, beautiful fashion jewelry, genuine leather and suede long boots, Uggs, party shoes, leather skirts, party dresses, crop jackets, blazers, long coats and a variety of bags and clutches.

Sonam Kapoor

Looking pretty as a peach in an off-shoulder dress, Sonam Kapoor is all charged up to take on the world with her upcoming film Dolly Ki Doli. The actress has had a good run at the box office with Raanjhanaa, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Khoobsurat.

Raanjhanaa became the first of her films to reach the `100 crore mark followed by Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Sonam considers Raanjhanaa to be the turning point in her career as people started taking her seriously after that.

But no, being a `100 crore heroine is not what the leggy actress is aiming for. She would rather do a small budget film that romps home comfortably.

The bottom line, as she says, is the film should make profits. And having a home production, Sonam can rattle off figures easily to make her point. Over to the spunky actress who tells it like it is…

You’ve worn bridal outfits in a couple of films earlier, but this film revolves around you as a bride. Does it feel surreal?

No, it’s a role. I have changed eight bridal outfits in a day for Dolly Ki Doli! Eventually, they are all costumes and I play a fake bride, a con bride (smiles). It’s not like I am actually getting married! I think it’s only when you are really getting married that you feel stressed.

How much of Sonam is there in Dolly?

I am not from North India and I am not conning people! But the one thing similar to Sonam and Dolly is both of them are unapologetically themselves. They are not afraid of being who they are.

What is your equation with Deepika? Deepika is a colleague who I respect a lot.

Deepika Padukone is a Colleague Who I Respect a lot

How was it working with Rajkummar Rao and the relative newcomers Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma? Pulkit is the kind who pampers you a lot. He will force you to cheat on your diet chart with this wonderful platter of food laid on his table. He won’t leave you until you try them. He’s got me those chocolate candies which I love. He’s a very chilled out guy. Varun is like a kid. He is my brother’s age. So, I mostly feel like pulling his cheeks. Rajkummar is very intense and a little more serious than these two. But he’s an immensely talented actor.

You have a great sense of humour, would you be a part of AIB’s Roast?

I am sorry, I have never heard of it. I have been working, and not been in town. I have to see it to comment on it. As for being a part of it, it depends on how intelligently it is done.

You are hailed as a fashionista. Does it take away from you as a performer?

How was it working with Rajkummar I don’t think so. On the contrary, it just Rao and the relative adds to my image. Especially after I give newcomers Pulkit good performances and when people appreciate my work, like after Raanjhanaa, Samrat and Varun Sharma? Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Khoobsurat. What kind of roles are you looking at?

I have consciously decided to choose roles that do not have me as a pretty face dancing in four songs without any meat in it. I would rather do meaningful roles. The length does not matter. I had a 25-minute role in Delhi 6, but still Bittoo’s character had a huge impact in the film. I want to try out different genres. Let’s see how it shapes up.

Though you have briefly worked with Salman Khan in Saawariya, you are now cast as the romantic lead opposite him in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Do you consider working with the Khan trio a benchmark? For me the benchmark would be doing any film which is made by an amazing director with amazing co-stars. A Sooraj Barjatya film opposite Salman Khan is definitely a high point in my life.

You were quoted saying that you will never publicise it if you start doing social service. It was reportedly a dig at Deepika Padukone who tweeted that she will be supporting the cause of mental health awareness in 2015..

(Cuts in)

I never said that.

How important is the `100-crore mark to you?

Raanjhanaa had Dhanush and me in it. The budget of the film was different from Khoobsurat. The number of screens it released was much higher. Khoobsurat released in 900 screens as opposed to 3000 screens. So, even if it went houseful for three weeks, it would only make so much as opposed to if it would have released in 5000 screens. It is mathematics. How much you spend on a film also counts. Raanjhanaa was a `35 crore film, Khoobsurat was a `12 crore film. Ranjhanaa is a multiplex film as well as a single screen film. Khoobsurat is only a multiplex film for youth. Dolly Ki Doli is a little different from Khoobsurat because maybe we are releasing it in 200 more screens. It has got a different audience appeal. So technically, it’s not whether you make `100 crore or `20 crore with your film, the bottom line is whether your film manages to make huge profits. It does not matter to me as long as it’s a hit film.

Eating the right foods, sleeping enough, and keeping well hydrated go a long way towards feeling full of vitality and focus. However, we live in a busy world. Managing the above components is not always easy. Yoga, with its unique synergy of body and breath work, is perfect when your reserves are running low. Yoga poses for energy focus on bringing ‘Prana’, life force, back into the body. Effective poses are those that extend the spine allowing energy to circulate throughout the whole body, and poses that open the chest, encour

Grounding and stabilizing poses balance energy-zapping agitation. Certain conscious breathing techniques ‘Pranayama’ create calm. Others fuel your body with uplifting energy. Unblock stagnant energy and release blood flow by stretching through the spine and opening the chest.

ENERGY

With Yoga Right Nostril Breathing (Surya Bhedana):

The left nostril brings calming (sleep-inducing) energy. The right nostril is associated with the energy of the sun and, hence, is uplifting and revitalizing. Sit up straight. Cover your left nostril with your thumb and splay out your fingers. Rest your other hand in your lap. Inhale for four seconds. Exhale for 6 seconds. Use only the right nostril. Repeat several times.

Cat Pose (Marjaryasana):

Kneel on all fours with your knees hip distance apart, your hands under your shoulders and your toes curled to the floor. Exhale and arch your spine upwards, pulling your abdominal muscles in. Move your head downwards. Inhale and keeping your hips in place, drop your weight creating an inverted curve in your spine. Lifting your chest and head. Face forwards. Use one long, flowing motion. Repeat several times.

Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II):

Stand with your legs wide apart in a triangle. Turn your right foot 90 degrees and your left foot angled slightly towards you to create balance. Face towards your right foot. Try not to tilt, or twist, the hips. Raise your arms so that they are vertical to the floor. Look towards your right and bend the right leg so your thigh is horizontal to the floor. Feel the strength through your thighs and core muscles. Hold. Repeat the position on the other side.

Tree Pose (Vriksasana):

Balancing positions ground and calm your mind, increasing clarity. Stand, feet hip distance apart. Splay your toes so that your weight is evenly distributed. Lengthen your spine and face forwards. Exhale, lift your right leg and rest the instep of your foot on your upper thigh, creating a triangle. If too difficult, place on your lower leg, (though not at the knee joint). Focus in front of you. Take slow breaths to enhance stability. Bring your hand into a prayer position in front of your heart. Exhale, raise your hands and create a triangle above your head, crossing your thumbs. Reverse the motions to release. Repeat on the other side of your body.

Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana):

Lie on your stomach with your legs together, the tops of your feet flat and your toes pointing away from you. Bring your hands to the sides of your shoulders, pressed into the floor. Rest your chin. Face forwards. Exhale, lift your chest from the floor, straightening your arms, creating a deep curve, and stretch, in your spine. Open across the front of the body. Keep your hips down and look ahead. Hold this position. Inhale. Return to a rest position.

T

ricks to Wear Bold

Lipstick

When you’re experimenting with bolder shades of lipstick for the first few times, don’t go for the high pigmented colors right away. A better way to get used to bold lipstick is to start with sheer coverage and slowly build up more color with a gloss. If you’re ready for a more dramatic look, find out how to wear bold lipstick, from selecting the right shade to making sure that it stays put throughout the day without the need for constant reapplying.

1. Find the Right Shade for Your Skin Tone:

Making the perfect choice for your skin tone is the most important step. For fair or very light skin, pinks are excellent, while a bright orange lip might be less suited to your complexion. For light skin, you can experiment with many shades, just like with dark skin, so don’t be afraid to experiment with bold pinks and reds. Tan skin or medium skin works best with orange shades, but pinks should be avoided.

2. Bold for Thin Lips:

If you have thin or asymmetrical lips, the right answer to the question of how to wear bold lipstick is… with a lot of care. The darker you go, the thinner your lips will look. A matte finish will also have the same effect. So to make bold shades for you, choose lighter colors and always finish with a gloss.

3. Coordinate Your Colors:

When you choose a bold lip color, it becomes very important to make sure that you’re

coordinating it with the colors of your clothes and accessories. You should also try a couple of shades before deciding which one works best with your look. Start out with testing your bold lipstick colors, one on the top lip and one on the bottom to figure out which works best with your look.

4. Prep Your Lips Carefully:

Going for a bold color means your lips will be the focal point of your look, so they have to look perfect. Exfoliate and moisturize your lips properly before applying any high pigment color. When you’re wondering how to wear bold lipstick, start with a good base, and pick the right finish for the season. Go for glossy in the winter and for a more matte look for summer.

5. Don’t Skip the Lip Liner:

Bold shades have a lot of pigment, and that means any change in their look will definitely register. If you don’t want to check your lips every hour, it’s important to start with a liner.

6. Keep Your Makeup Balanced:

Wondering how to wear bold lipstick without going too far? Keep your eyes minimal, and pay attention to your foundation and concealer. Getting your complexion even is very important, and if you’re worried that the rest of your makeup is too minimal, focus on your eyelashes.

7. Go with a Lip Stain:

The right way to wear bold lipstick for a long lasting effect is to start with a lip stain in a matching shade. After you apply it all over your lips, set with translucent powder before adding lipstick. You can also create a more dramatic effect by choosing a lipstick one shade lighter or darker than the stain to complete a look with extra depth.

8. Skip the Lip Brush:

While a lip brush can help you increase your precision for the application, going for a high pigment finish is easier without it. For a bold shade that gives you a dramatic effect, you should apply color directly with a pencil or from the lipstick tube.

9. Set with Blotting Papers:

Blotting papers are usually a good idea, but they’re a must when you’re going to wear bold lipstick. Using the blotting sheets draws out emollients from the color, leaving behind the pigment that stays put. Try them for a longer lasting effect even if you already use powder between two layers of colors.

10. Don’t Ignore the Maintenance:

When you’re wearing a bold lip, you’ll definitely need to more touch ups than for a sheer color. You should also have some concealer in your purse in order to correct any smudges. The easiest way to do that is to have a lip brush that’s already been dipped in a little concealer ready to use.

ow to Paint Step 1: Cover with Canvas

Drop cloths protect the things you don’t want to paint, but some work better than others. Professional painters like canvas for its tear-resistant durability and excellent absorption of paint splatters. Spill paint on a plastic cloth and you run the risk of stepping in it later (paint doesn’t dry as quickly on plastic) and tracking it through other parts of the house. Some canvas types come with a rubber backing, ensuring it will grip the floor and stay in place.

Step 2: Start with a Smooth Surface Fill in any nail holes, scratches or dents in the wall by applying a lightweight joint compound with a putty knife.

a Room

A fresh coat of paint is one of the most cost effective ways to dramatically improve the look of a space. Think of it: a fireplace really becomes the focal point once it’s in front of an accent wall; a bland kid’s room transforms into something playful with a pop of color; a dining room gets a sophisticated upgrade with a darkened ceiling. The right wall hue acts as a complementary backdrop to the furniture you already own. Want even more bang for your buck? A smooth, flawless finish depends on how you paint the room. Follow the tips below for a look that will have your guests wondering if you hired a professional.

Let the compound dry for at least 10 minutes, then lightly buff the entire wall from baseboard to ceiling with a fine grit (100 or 150) sandpaper on a sanding pole. Use a soft touch— leaning into the sanding pole could cause its head to invert and scratch the wall. Finish by sanding horizontally along the baseboard and ceiling.

Step 5: Prevent Paint on the Ceiling

Textured ceilings in particular seem to end up with smudges of color on them. Nip this problem in the bud by taping along the edge where the ceiling meets Step 3: the wall with blue painter’s tape. Painting directly onto sanded walls can result in dull patches caused by joint compound pulling the moisture out of paint. Jean Paul Gaultier S p r i n g

2 0 1 5

C o u t u r e

It was Jean Paul Gaultier’s first time on the runway since shuttering his prêt-à-porter business with a shower of gold confetti last September. It was a new beginning of sorts, and to celebrate he chose weddings as his theme. Most couture shows have a single betrothed; JPG had a couple dozen of them. He dubbed the collection 61 Façons de Se Dire Oui, or 61 Ways to Say Yes. The bride wore a lace bomber and tulle ball skirt, the bride wore shorts, and the bride wore blue jeans. Naomi Campbell closed the show wrapped in cellophane and live orchids and not much else; she was a bridal bouquet. In the detailed show notes, each look got a clever name of its own. To Bi or Not to Bi, a little black number tailored like a man’s suit on one side and draped like a dress on the other, was classic Gaultier. There were first-rate examples of his masculine-feminine hybrids from beginning to end, and they were the strongest elements of a show that also included python—both the real thing and an intricate burnished paillette facsimile—as well as a passage of evening numbers that exposed the satin boning of corsets and crinoline cages. The crowd was the rowdiest of couture week—this or any other. They cheered for even the silliest of looks—Lindsey Wixson’s tutu overalls with beekeeper’s hat takes that prize—and tossed the anemones left on each seat at Gaultier’s favorite models from times gone by as they came down the elevated runway in their alterna-bride attire. Clothing-wise, we’ve seen much of this before, but Gaultier’s shows are one of the last places in fashion where we’re encouraged to have fun. For the time being, that’s enough to keep everyone coming back.

Amitabh Bachchan starrer

“Sha mita bh” The story, the performances and the dialogues work wonders for R Balki’s latest film. After giving us heart stirring films like Cheeni Kum and Paa, director R Balki is back with yet another endearing film with an unlikely combination of Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush. Though Balki and his team did their best to keep the story under wraps, there were multiple rumours in the market about Shamitabh’s plot. Being a Dhanush fan, I was eager to see how does he pull off a role that was first offered to Shah Rukh Khan. And more importantly, leaving the guessing games and rumours aside, I was really intrigued to find out what Shamitabh was all about.

And as I stepped out of the theatre at the end, I had no doubt in my mind that Shamitabh will be one of the top best films of the year. Lets cut the chase and dive into the review. Meanwhile a nosy reporter finds out that Shamitabh aka Daanish is actually mute and Amitabh is lending his voice for him. Will the reporter expose the truth about Shamitabh? How will Daanish and Amitabh tackle this tricky situation forms the climax of the story.

What’s it about: A speech impaired boy, Daanish (Dhanush) from Igatpuri, dreams to become an actor since he was a kid. After his mother’s demise, Daanish leaves for Mumbai to pursue his dream. There he has a chance encounter with assistant director Akshara (Akshara Haasan) who sees his true potential and wishes to help him. Through her father’s doctor friend, Akshara gets to know about a technology using which the speech impaired can speak. A device is planted in Daanish’s throat, which records the voice of the person speaking to him through an ear piece and plays it every time he opens his mouth. All he gotta do is lip sync with the voice! A shara and Daanish then rope in a bumbling drunkard Amitabh Sinha (Amitabh Bachchan) to be Daanish’s voice. Daanish becomes Shamitabh, a superstar overnight and all the limelight hogged by Daanish makes Amitabh jealous. Soon ego clashes arise between the two and they split. But with the help of Akshara, they soon realise that they can’t be successful without each others help and bury the hatchet.

The story, the performances and the dialogues work wonders for R Balki’s latest film. Akshara Haasan makes an impressive debut, playing her part of mediator between the two with great conviction. R Balki deserves a pat on his back for telling a unique story which is witty, funny, philosophical and endearing at the same time. Picturisation of Piddly song will leave you in splits. The light banter and leg pulling between Dhanush and Big B made my day. At first, Amitabh’s voice from Dhanush’s mouth sounded odd but later proved to be quite entertaining. Dhanush and Amitabh compliment each other really well, as I can’t really choose who performed better. Since Big B is introduced as Shamitabh’s valet Robert to rest of the world, it was a really nice gesture from the makers to put all the valet’s names first in the end credits. Be ready for a climax that would give you a mild shock. Kudos to dialogue writers for dishing out such funny one liners that are peppered throughout the film.

What’s bad:

I really can’t pinpoint what’s bad. But if I really had to say something bad, then the film’s first five mins where all the industrywallas praise Shamitabh at a red carpet function is little dull and over the top. Climax left me jolted and made me wonder if it was really necessary for the filmmaker to end the film at such a note, as it spoils the mood for a brief moment.

What to do:

It is a rarity in Indian cinema to find a film that is both highly entertaining, thought provoking and clean at the same time. Backed by some powerhouse performances of Big B and Dhanush, Shamitabh is one of the finest films this year. Don’t miss it. Do yourself a favour and go watch Shamitabh right way.
