Nauman Javaid
“Likes to create what everyone will love”
Nouman Javaid is a Pakistani Actor and singer cum musician. He is a scorpion born on 28th october 1982 in the historic city of Lahore. Amongst his earlier successes and peak to glory was the effort when he gave Music for Mahesh Butt’s Movie Jashnn. In addition to giving Music he also wrote, composed and sung songs for this Movie Jashnn. In his interview with us he highlights his multi-faceted talents and his love for the world of Music.
How did you get in to music? I have been a music lover for as long as i can remember. not once i thought i’d be singing professinally but it just happened. i suppose i was meant to do this. What does music mean to you? Life without music would be a mistake. so music for me is my way of life. i would be incomplete without it. i would be a nobody without it. For our viewers please share your career profile with us? My debut in music was Mahesh Bhatt’s film Jashnn. i sang two songs in it. Dard E Tanhai Mein chala I did the music and lyrics for both songs and of course i sang them too. After the success of Dard E tanhai and Mein Chala another film Producer/ Director Samir Karnik called on me to work with him for his film Yamla Pagla Deewana. it was a Deol family venture. I did music for the film as music director and gave hits like Charha de rang. i’ve also done a lot of playback singing for Pakistan, for many drama serials made under big banners. songs like Meri Jaan Tere Bina Meri Zindagi Hai Tu (duet with Shabnam Majeed) Tishnagi Khoye Kahan Gham E Aashiqui Saansein Gawah hein (OST Saans) I keep myself busy with making singles also like my song Yamla Pagla Deewana and my collaboration with Farhia Pervez on the song “Tere Naina” again written composed by me. i love to write so working on a book also. Anyone else in your family sings? No i was the only one smart enough to do so. Tell us about upcoming tracks in 2014?
The album that crashed in 2013 im redoing all of it again. might jump into direction also as it is something that i would enjoy doing. a lot of singles on the way. the rest is up to ALLAH as He knows best what He has instored for me. Who is your musical inspiration? Your mentor? I take my inspiration from life. yes i do have a lot of favorite artists from whom i drive my inspiration from. like Tufail Niazi Sab, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sab, Muhammad Rafi Sab, Manna Dey, Lata Jee, S.D Burman Sab, R.D Burman. the list is long. I believe they are all my mentors and i get to learn a lot from listening to their music. Where do you see your future in music? I see myself making good music, with great lyrics and lovely melodies. i will not sell out i will not follow silly trends i will make music the way it should be made. something for the soul. What threats you consider in music world that make you seriously think sometimes? Lack of support from the listener of Pakistan who is only listening to and supporting artist working in other countries. Plus the lack of concerts and unwilling to spend money for the ticket crowed. Where would you most like to perform? I would love to perform in Madison Square Garden. Do you play any instruments? Pretty good with Guitar. What genre of music can’t you stand to listen to? Dub step, death matel anything with noise. If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing? I think i would be dead. if not on the out side then im pretty sure on the inside. Last Awkward Moment? Oh there are many. a girl trying to kiss me in a party and me pushing her away, haha... that was one funny awkward moment. Any celeb crushes? Oh I still have a huge crush on Nazia Hassan. wow what a pretty lady. very unfortunate that she is no
what a pretty lady. very unfortunate that she is no more. Which music brand, you like the most? I dont know what do you mean by brand. if you are asking about the genre of music i like well i like pretty much anything with soul. anything that can keep my overactive mind in peace. Do you think any other singer copies you? Haha funny you should ask that but yes i do see many of them trying to put emotions in a song like how i do as i have a very distinct way of singing. Who do you think is your competitor in music industry? No one. i love them all and i support them all. my music is my music i dont do it to compete with anyone. im here to serve music not people. i wish everyone of my fellow musicians well and i really want them to do well even if i wont be doing so well. I am an artist i dont have place for negativity in my heart and soul. plus success to me is not making more money it is about creating something that everyone can love. Any advice for emerging musicians and singers? This is not a competition. dont compete. just make music good music and wait your time will come as long as you are precistant and devoted. focus on your self only dont think about who has got what and who deserves what. listen to great music only then you can make good music. 3 hidden secrets behind your success that your fans don’t know about you? Pain, Hurt and Sorrow but to be honest it is, it was and it will always be ALLAH ALLAH ALLAH. What does Pakistani music mean to you and where do you see it in future? Great versatile music with a lot of potential. very unique. very original. but unfortunately i dont see a good future for it as everything is going down hill. no music channels left. the ones which are there are only promoting foriegn content. even the listeners are only listening to foriegn content not a single soul is willing to hear their own music unless it is in coke studio or may be sung by someone who did well in bollywood. Describe Nouman Javaid in three words? Victim of circumstances. How do you deal when faced with criticism by fans? I hear every word and i pay attention to it and i welcome it all the time. Any Plans of getting married? No, I’ve been heart broken way too many times to jump back into that train again. women are a mystry plus im a very complicated person very simple and yet hard to handle. I dont roll the way the world rolls. i like to give, im not a materialistic person but the world around me is. Plus i’ve falling in love with my loneliness I have no place for any noise in my silence. I am alone im lonely but it is simpler that way and it works for me. It gives me the freedom to imagine to think to explore to fly life without imagination would be very boring. It is more like i dont want to start a new life I want to spend this life helping others making ways for others so that when I am gone i’d be missed.

You are coming as a mentor in the show. So what experiences did you share with contestants to help their acting career? You know, it is not as generic as that. Basically, when a contestant comes and performs, I try to tell them those small things which happen in sets and if they were in a film set what they are doing wrong. I can’t teach them as I am not experienced enough. I was like a friend pointing out small mistakes which could be avoided. And I think it really helped them, as they didn’t know how a scene is shot in sets. Film set is not same like stage, there are so many technicalities which an actor has to keep in mind. So those were the small personal experiences which I shared with them. Would you advice the contestants to have a back-up plan? Oh yes! I have a back up plan. So everybody should have a back up plan. What’s your backup plan? I am a banker. So the day you all get bored of me and don’t want to watch my films, then I will go back to banking.
You were a banker, then became a PR and finally an actor. Did you ever have an inclination towards banking? No. I never had any plans to be an actor. For many years, I had my inclination towards banking. I studied to be an banker both in India and England. So I was always interested in banking. When did you came to know that you could be an actor? It happened when I joined Yash Raj. I was not getting any work in UK. Due to recession, lot of bankers were out of job. So that year I applied at Yash Raj and got the job. I worked as PR for one and a half years there. Then I decided to give acting a shot. A lot of heroines have to face the dreaded casting couch. What do you want to say on that? Don’t sit on that couch (Laughs). You are a mentor in Cine Stars Ki Khoj. Who was your mentor when you first started acting? My mentor has been one and only Manish Sharma. He’s the reason that I am an actor. He’s the one who found me. He’s the one who spotted me. And then I would say Adi..Aditya Chopra. So Adi and Manish are two people whom I ask, like in the middle of the night I call them and ask ‘Yeh picture karoon ki nahin? Yeh shoot karoon ki nahin? Badi gandi photo aayi hai, kya karoon?’ So all my questions go to them and the best is that they really give you advice like you are the only person in the world. Like nobody else matters. They give me advice and leave the final call to me. How do you manage to stay so down to earth? Because of weight(Laughs). I am very heavy. I can’t fly only.(Laughs)
Are you doing a film with Saif Ali Khan? Yes. Finally, I am doing a film with him. Actually it’s not been green lit. So I can’t say much about the film. But, yes, it will be directed by Dinu as we call him. He is Dinesh Vijan, Illuminati partner of Saif. And we are hopefully starting in October. That’s all I can say about the film. Saif’s daughter is a big fan of you? Did you have a chance to talk with her? She is very sweet. I actually read it two days ago. I didn’t know she has said such lovely things. I think she and I should sit and meet and then talk about Saif cos I am a big Saif fan. So I think we will just sit and talk about Saif. What about doing a film with her? I think we should do it. You guys write the script. (Laughs) What is your strength as an actor? It is the homework that I do. I do a lot of research and I really become that person on the sets. I think, may be that helps me in giving a good performance. If someone believes that they have a talent in them, so should they take the risk of pursuing it leaving every thing aside? I think they should definitely try. I will not advice to leave everything until and unless they have their first acting offer. If you feel you are talented you should definitely try. But there are very few who get through in their first try without any struggle. Industry is unpredictable. They should have a back up plan and then try. Who is easier to find now-a-days- a star or a actor? I think the question itself is wrong, as you can’t search and tell that this person is a star. Even I watch movies, and if I like some actor’s film and go on to watch his movies, then that actor is a star for me.
