Editor’s Letter We are not quite convinced yet that it’s Spring, with the cold weather pushing well into mid March. But when has weather stopped us from wearing our fashions? And perhaps the cold is welcome for once, as our outerwear has been in the spotlight thanks to it. But we are definitely ready to show some leg and loose the layers. So spring, will you please hurry up? I’ve got a Kate Sylvester see through lace shirt that needs to come out of the closet! Trend-wise, we are hyped on the stripes and shorts of the season and quite anxious to see where 2013 will lead us! Will it be more excess or will minimalism finally win the battle? Dark, sultry colors or the sweetness of summery pastels? I guess we’ll wait and see! Noree Anne Celine

Designer Spotlight: casper&pearl Stacey Hendrickson released her first seasonal collection for her label, casper&pearl and talks to us about her creative process. How did casper&pearl come into existence? casper&pearl existed only in my mind until 2011 when I had a market stall at the Gilles Street Markets in Adelaide. I made pieces for friends and local girls and it really just went from there! And now we have tens of thousands of followers online, worldwide stockists and amazing support from media and celebrities. Tell us a bit about your first seasonal collection and the inspiration for it. My first collection ‘Secret Garden’ is inspired by the story written by Frances Hodgson Burnett – I read it religiously when I was younger. I was really inspired by the innocence and beauty behind it. I love to not only create beautiful clothing but also create art and poetry, so making the ‘Secret Garden’ my first collection was really just a metaphor for me – as the little girl in the story made something beautiful out of nothing. What are the predominant fabrics and colors? For this collection I used a colour palette of lavender and coral – I’m really inspired by using two colours that are at the other end of the spectrum. I also used a lot of sheer chiffon, a couple of pieces also features hand drawn embroidery flowers. Who is the collection aimed at? Every girly girl who never really wanted to grow up. Future projects? I’m working on our next collection at the moment for S/S 13/14. Aswell as the launch of the ‘Secret Garden’ collection, we’re having a secret launch party which I’m so excited about! ANA// Anna Kostina Anna Kostina is an avant-garde costume and fashion designer based in London. Since 2007 she designs costumes for performance under her label ANA. Combining fashion/costume design with art is in the focus of her work. Her imaginative designs are all unique pieces that are produced exclusively by topic and client. Her clients include event agencies and night clubs employing performance artists and dancers. ANA also works with individual performers and styles for advertising campaigns and photo shoots. The costumes in the editorial shoot were made for performers of a night club in Germany for the event called ’’MOVE’’. Her pieces, accessories and props create different characters: geisha, punk, butterfly and fairy. All of them are strong female personalities between reality and fantasy. For that shoot she collaborated with the bodypainting artist Victoria Gugenheim and photographer Al Overdrive, both from London.
