HERE AT FQ, WE BELIEVE THAT STYLE IS A REFLECTION OF A PERSON’S INDIVIDUALITY. PEOPLE DRESS TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES AND THOUGH SOME PEOPLE MAY STYLE THEIR WARDROBES IN SIMILAR WAYS, EACH PERSON HAS HIS OWN EDGE. THE PURPOSE OF OUR SS’12 ISSUE IS NOT TO PROVIDE A TEMPLATE FOR OUR READERS TO IMITATE BUT TO SERVE AS A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION. DRAW UPON THE FANTASTIC COLOR PALETTE OF OUR EDITORIAL BACKDROP OR OUR STAFF MEMBERS’ COLLECTIONS AND HOBBIES. THE GOAL IS TO BE CREATIVE AND STAY TRUE TO ONESELF.

Making jewelry has always been a hobby of mine starting back when I was about ten years old. I have always thought wearing unique jewelry was a wonderful way of self expression and there is no better way to ensure individuality than to wear the pieces I created myself. The jewelry I make reflects my personal style and aesthetic preferences at the point in time when it was designed so in a way, the various pieces I have created throughout the years serve as a sort of documentation of my personal growth.

I have traveled quite a bit throughout my life, and originally, these souvenir spoons served as reminders of the memories I had created in the multitude of destinations I had the privilege of venturing to. Eventually, my collection grew as my friends and family brought me spoons from places they had traveled to. So now I suppose my collection indicates not only places I have been, but also places I one day hope to travel to.
The Vans Project is something I started back in 2008 when I was at BFD and MGMT happened to be signing stuff during a time when I had some down time. Ever since I’ve worn vans when I go to shows and get them signed by the artist. I am up to 8 pairs full of signatures, the most recent having Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and british “post-dubstep artist James Blake sign my shoes.

abigail chu When someone tells me of a good restaurant they’ve been to, it stays in my head, and I have to experience it for myself. It’s one of my favorite things to do--to eat somewhere I’ve never been. I even have a food list saved onto my computer so that I could eventually get to all of them. With all the places I’ve gone, I’ve accumulated quite a lot of business cards. They float around all over my room, in my purses, and even in my pant pockets.

These are just a few pieces from my giant ticket stub collection. I usually keep every single ticket stub including those from movie showings to various excursions, and here are just several that stand out.
I recently did a series of hand portraits for a drawing class because I think hands are so expressive and unique. I now have a collection of hand drawings that I made of all of my friends and family. My collection of hand drawings will keep growing as new people come into my life.

A perfect afternoon calls for laying out on warm, soft sands, basking in the sun. These jars of sand are souvenirs from different beaches around the world that my family has traveled to. These beaches represented in the jars are especially famous for their white, pristine sands.

I’ve always loved all types of bows, the shape, color, fabric, and how they can add that extra spice to any outfit. I always have extra fabric lying around so bows are the perfect way to use that up as well as to create the perfect accessory.
