Paris Fashion Week: Alexander McQueen SS 2012 Runway Sarah Burton is a name that all fashionistas should know and respect in the fashion industry. She is the antecedent creative director for the house of Alexander McQueen. Since the world lost the creative genius of Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton has stepped up in a major way, taking the wheel and moving the Alexander McQueen fashion ship forward and the McQueen vision very much alive. Burton gets fashion, just as McQueen did. So we’ve compiled a few of our favorites from the SS 2012 collection below.
Alexander McQueen collections have a flare for the unusual. Exploring the extraordinary to bring forward a unique kind of beauty is signature McQueen. The gown pictured above is a mixture of feminine and edgy hardware. The top of the dress looks more like a suit of armor, while the bottom of the dress appears to be fluffy feathers. The hood element of the dress adds a final exotic touch to the unusually elegant gown.
Again, not your average gown, but beautiful just the same. If you’re familiar with the history of Alexander McQueen, you’d know that he had a peculiar fascination with sea shells and ocean life. The dress pictured above looks like something from under the sea, almost as if the gown morphed into form cascading over the models body. This is not just a dress, but piece of art.
Next, spotted on the runway is this red and white fantastical gown. Looking like something out of a dream, the floor length dress has beautiful ruffled hemline matching the bust line and neck. The long cascading shawl is a pleasant finishing touch to the elegant frock.
One of the more daring pieces in the Alexander McQueen SS 2012 collection is the above black romper with intricate lace spaghetti straps. The lace hood covering the model’s face draws more attention to the outfit. We also love the strappy knee high platform peep toe heels.
Getting down to business we see the above two piece suit Alexander McQueen style. The blazer is all about the details, the high collar, shoulder pads, ruffled sleeves and an oversized statement belt. The pencil skirt also had unique detailing down the front of the skirt and the two toned ruffled hem. The strappy platform sandals with gold hardware are going to be a must have this coming spring.
Finally we chose this exceptional one piece dress with a regal high ruffled collar, shoulder pads and hemline. The gold ensemble is on our runway to retail wish list for the spring. And again, we see the gladiator sandals that we must have.
