Reblog: Chaiken and Capone Classic Meets Cool In The New Collection

Classic Meets Cool In The New Collection By Chaiken and Capone We all search for that perfect-fitting pant. One that is flattering, cut beautifully, and just feels right. Known for designing that great pant that women would stand in line for, Chaiken and Capone returns to retail and we couldn’t be happier. We recently had the opportunity to preview the Spring Collection and talk to the woman behind the design, Julie Chaiken. S&I: Tell us a little about the collection. JC: For the holiday collection, it was really about designing great pieces that you would want to wear when you go out at night and into the evening. Like with our gorgeous tuxedo pants with satin stripes down the side, we added elements and dressed things up a bit. S&I: That’s what we love about your line and your signature pant – the versatility. You can wear it during the day, but is still appropriate into the night. JC: We regularly say, “These are clothes to fit how she lives her life.” You can’t always go home and change, so you want to put something on in the morning and know you will be able to wear that to dinner, or a reception, or any event you’re going to. It has to work. I know we wish that we can wear jeans everywhere, but that’s not always the case. S&I: Jeans are obviously a staple, but your line echoes putting those away and

“bringing the pant back”. JC: Right. You know, I’m excited about people getting dressed up a little bit. It’s not that I expect to go all the way back to wearing suits, but we’re getting really great feedback from people saying, “I’m ready to put my jeans aside” and that the look is more for weekend wear. We know that is not the common thought for every day of the week, but we are excited to see a little shift. S&I: Who or what are your key influences? JC: More often than not, it’s the woman on the street. Or it’s a friend, having conversations about what she’s wearing and why she’s wearing it. We look a lot to Europe, especially with the pants, because a lot of the trends are coming that way. We are also looking more to Asia. In fact, the skinny pant trend I think really came more out of Asia than Europe. It still has a decent opening at the ankle, where it’s very clear that it is a pant or trouser instead of a jean. S&I: In the cut and style of your design, you really capture the female silhouette. How do you tailor to each body type? JC: If you’re a size 0 or 12, you have a curve. We are really conscious of that and double-fit everything so we know it’s right.
