Goodbye 2017 … Welcome 2018! The beat goes on! 2017 is over and what a roller coaster year it was, complete with incredible ups and down. We lost some old friends and made some new friends. BigPoppa’s daughter, Nicole, remarried and never seemed happier (good job, Rick!). In lieu of grandchildren, his son, Jason, and daughter-in-law, Jessica, added a new puppy to their home (we don’t want to rush you concerning grandchildren but we’re not getting any younger!). The grandkids, Harley and Davidson, are both serving in the military because Miss Caroline doesn’t worry about them enough already. We saw our good friend Jerry Tully have a relapse of polio only to fight it like a champ and win the battle (God bless you, Jerry, still kicking ass!). Our friend Thunder Walrus survived a horrific motorcycle accident that nearly killed him. We had the privilege of attending the marriage of Amanda Lee and David and welcomed the birth of their son, Zavier. The beat goes on! In 2018, FLBD will continue to evolve and move forward to serve our readers and advertisers to the best of our ability. Continue to check out www.flbdelmarva.com and download our mobile app to keep up with where we’re going and how we’re getting there. We anticipate lots of changes in 2018 and we’ll be unveiling those plans as they are complete. Are you a biker-friendly business advertising in print only and just not getting your money’s worth? Are you ready to expand your online presence? Contact the marketing team at FLBD and discover how you can get a full-service advertising package - in most cases for the same or less than you are paying now for print only. Contact marketing@ flbdelmarva.com to discuss your business needs! JUST IN TIME FOR THE TIMONIUM SOUVENIR ISSUE - FLBD is throwing down the gauntlet and offering a 30% discount off what you are currently paying for advertising in

any other free motorcycle magazine. Contact marketing@ flbdelmarva.com for more information! And in case you didn’t catch that, FLBD will once again partner with the Timonium Motorcycle Show to offer the Official Timonium Motorcycle Show Souvenir Issue which will be distributed before and during the event at our always fun, always wellreceived display. ATTENTION REQUIRED - Don’t forget your $5 off admission to the Timonium Motorcycle Show in this issue of FLBD! Finally, FLBD continues to look to our readers for content of interest in the motorcycle community to appear in our print magazine, on the FLBD website, and in our Biker Buzz Blog. Articles, photos, interesting bikes, featured model candidates, videos for FLBD TV, blog posts, event flyers and event reviews should be sent to submissions@ flbdelmarva.com. Yes, the beat goes on… because YOU matter most to FLBD. Have a happy, healthy and safe 2018!

ABATE OF DELAWARE Ed Berner, Legislative Coordinator

Now that the holidays are over, the next legislative season for the State of Delaware is upon us. As of this writing there is nothing on the schedule that we (ABATE of Delaware) are concerned with. However, during the last Delaware Motorcycle Advisory Committee several items came up that we are tracking. The first is expanding the auxiliary lighting law to include all color of LEDs on your bike. Several states have laws that allow more colors that the white (clear) or amber (orange) that is currently allowed in Delaware. Also, there was a lot of discussion about “special” tags. There are many different special tags you can get for an automobile like a Disabled American Veteran (DAV), Credit Union (CU) and many, many others. The law does not allow for special motorcycle tags. So, if you’re an ABATE member, you’re out of luck. Same goes if you belong to any of the clubs. There seems to be more support for this than years past when ABATE tried to change the law. Lastly there seems to be progress on placing “Watch for Motorcycles” signs in areas of high volume motorcycle traffic - like at a dealer. This was originally proposed by committee member the late Ben Ewing. I’m happy to report that DELDOT has finally relented and the first sign should be going up near Rommel Harley-Davidison’s Seaford location within the coming months. This seems appropriate since Ben was a long-time Rommel employee. If you Facebook, Check out the committee’s page at DMREAC. There you’ll find links to state agencies and, if you have an issue, you can contact the committee using those links. It’s a straight path to Senator Ennis and Rep. Short. Your ideas will be discussed. For those of you keeping score you’ll remember that I talked about Kent County’s Home Run that supports the home for the chronically ill in Smyrna, DE. The after event was held at the Smyrna Moose Lodge and they rocked it with a great chicken dinner. I don’t know there that chicken came from but the portions were HUGE. It was one of the best attended in many years and the auction raised more funds than ever, which will be used for the patients at the hospital. A big “thank you” goes go out to Payne’s Leather in Felton DE, for the generous donation of the raffle grand prize as well as to all the other folks that donated items to the auction. Without all of you they would never have raised that much money For more information or to become an ABATE member, visit www.abateofde.com.

South for the Winter Good Motorcycle Morning!

with Marty Sullivan

Let’s head south for the winter. Let’s go find something unique. Let’s look out for cops. Not to avoid the cops, let’s go find the cops. Why? Well it just so happens that I know where the world’s smallest police station is. No kidding, it’s in Carrabelle, FL. Let’s go! That day I started out in Crestview, FL and was heading southeast to Oklawaha, FL to see some family that evening. I started out early so I could take the scenic route through Mexico Beach, and Port Saint Joe on the way to Carrabelle for lunch. About 20 minutes outside of Carrabelle, I passed a caution sign with a bear on it. Really? Watch out for bears, at the beach, in Florida? Yep. Just a few minutes later I was parked right in front of the world’s smallest police station. You may think it’s just a gimmick for tourists, but no, it has a place in Carrabelle history. So way back in the early 60s, the Carrabelle police had no station to speak of, but they did have a patrol car, and a phone that was in a small call box that was bolted to a building. Later, the local phone company was upgrading their phone booths, so the local Sheriff scooped up an old booth, added a bench, and some paint and, voila! The Carrabelle police station was born! It was a great idea that gave the police officers some protection from the weather while making official police business calls. Unfortunately, some of the thriftier residents of Carrabelle also saw it as a place to make free long-distance calls. By the time I made it to Carrabelle, the phone was out of order. It was replaced by the much more recent, full size police station about a block away. The old station is still there though. Complete with a phone booth, a detention bench, and driveway for the patrol car. Pretty cool! Just around the corner was the Carrabelle Junction restaurant. Let me tell you, after days and days of fast food and chain establishments on Epic Ride, this place was a welcome sight. A cold drink, some good food, and great conversation. There’s no better cure for the fatigue of a long day of riding. As I’m writing this, it seems as though Carrabelle is a great idea. It’s pretty cold outside and it’s only going to get colder. If I decide to head south for the winter, I just might drop my kickstand in Carrabelle. It’s not too hot, not too busy, it’s on the beach, and the roads are great for motorcycles all year round. So you go ahead and get the snow shovel ready. Shady and I may just go stick our toes in the sand under some sunny lazy day palm tree near Carrabelle. No matter where you find yourself in our beautiful world. No matter where I may be trying to keep the bike vertical in places I’ve never been. Trust me when I say, I hope this year, 2018, is not as bad as some, and better than most. :) Happy New Year from everyone at Good Motorcycle Morning!

Senior Moments Fred Pulliam Age: 65

. Location: Silver Spring, MD

Fred Pulliam began riding as a teenager. In 1969 he bought a new 1968 BSA Spitfire from Blalock Cycles (located in Wheaton, MD at the time). Since then, Fred has owned a variety of motorcycles including a 305 Honda Dream, 1986 Yamaha Virago, 1992 HD Low Rider, 1998 Triumph Thunder Bird Sport, 1999 Billy Bike Replica, 2001 Electra Glide and, currently, a 2017 Ultra Limited. He still owns all of his bikes except the Virago and 2001 Glide. Although his days were spent working as the owner of a Mercedes Benz repair shop, it’s fairly clear that Fred found time to enjoy motorcycles. Fred and his fiancé, Debby, enjoy riding together. Some of Fred’s road trips include Canada, Milwaukee, Key West, Memphis, Tail of the Dragon, and the of Tears ride. His favorite rides include the Florida Keys and Black Hills, SD. He is an ABATE and HOG member and participates in a variety of charity rides. When asked what advice he would impart to new or less experienced riders, Fred said, “Ride at your own speed and ability and have fun. Always be aware of your surroundings.” Sounds like good advice!
