assigned. “There but for the grace of God go I.” I have a special place in my heart for those that served in an active war zone. God bless you. When Caroline and I discussed what we wanted to do for our May issue, we decided it would be fitting to honor our military. In our travels all over the Delmarva area, we noticed many military-themed bikes that pay tribute to the various branches of our military. Most are owned by veterans or family members of military who made the ultimate sacrifice. These bikes are rolling memorials that are out there at rallies, rides and shows. They are our daily reminder that we have what we have because someone cared enough about freedom and democracy to fight for it – on our behalf. So the next time you see one of these bikes, take a moment to think about the meaning of that bike or the story behind it. Tell the owner “thank you” for reminding you of what you have. We owe these people so much and they deserve our heartfelt thanks and support. We value all the members of our military both living and deceased and thank you for the sacrifices you made for us.
rank Buckles passed away on February 28, 2011 at the age of 110. So who the heck was Frank Buckles? Frank was the last remaining veteran of World War I. He was 18 years old when he joined the service and did his tour of duty as an ambulance driver during “The War To End All Wars.” God rest his soul. Memorial Day is Monday, May 30th. Many people see this as the kickoff to the summer season. Grills are fired up, people pack lunches for picnics in the park, public swimming pools open for the season, sun worshipers head to the beach and, if you own a bike, you will probably go for a ride that day. Many people just enjoy the long weekend and never give it a second thought. Memorial Day is also the official day to give thanks to the men and women who give of themselves so we can enjoy the freedom to do all those things and so much more. There will be official parades and observances, and politicians will give their speeches. There will be American Flags displayed from almost every home and business and bands will play patriotic music in town squares and parks throughout the USA. Of course, Rolling Thunder in Washington, D.C. on Sunday May 29th is where many of the motorcycle community will observe, remember and honor our military. But is one day a year enough? In my eyes, we as a nation need to do more. We need to take care of our veterans and their families buy supporting those events and organizations that provide services and assistance to our vets. Do you know veterans make up the largest percentage of the homeless population? Do you know that veterans have the highest suicide and divorce rate in this country? I’m not just talking about veterans from WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam; we have a new generation of veterans who have completed their duty in Afghanistan and Iraq and other far flung places around the globe. Sometimes I feel as though we push these people into a closet, out of our sight, so we don’t have to deal with them – except once or twice a year when we parade them around and then put them away until the next holiday.
God bless and keep the shiny side up and the rubber on the road! Big Poppa, Miss Caroline and the entire Fast Lane Biker staff

SENIOR MOMENT Name: Gary “Mo” Morris Age: 65 Location: Lincoln, DE
It was just a few years ago that Mo’s wife said “Doesn’t a motorcycle get better mileage than a car or truck?” Mo was at the Dover Honda dealership that weekend. At the time, Mo was already 60+ years old with arthritis in almost every joint so he went straight for the cruiser bikes. He and his son owned a Yamaha 750 Street Bike back in 1990, but he knew he’d have to ride something a little bigger. He started by trying out seats – making sure it was comfortable enough. He found his best fit on a used 2001 Yamaha Royal Star Venture. Increasing fuel prices made negotiating impossible. Mo wrote a deposit check to start the paperwork and just in the nick of time. Two other customers were trying to make a deal on that very same bike. That day Mo walked out a new cruiser bike owner. The bike looked as big as a Volkswagen in Mo’s garage and he wondered if maybe he went too far too soon for his age. But all it took was a few rides on local back roads and Mo was ready for the main highway. It gave him a wonderful feeling but he remained a fair-weather rider. Mo was returning home from the dealership after a tune up one day in 2007 when he encountered a blind sloping curve. He rode the high side and caught some loose sand and he dropped his bike. “Thankfully most of the damage was to me,” said Mo. The insurance company totaled the bike but Mo could still ride it and bought it back from the insurance company. Mo always wanted to change the color of the bike but didn’t have a reason until now. After repairs, he found a painter and presented him with his idea. Mo was wounded in Vietnam in May of 1967 and wanted to honor wounded veterans like him. The painter’s concept of the basic paint job had Mo in tears and he has since added some graphics to build on his tribute to Purple Heart Veterans. Since dropping the bike, Mo added a set of outriggers and now has more stability when riding. He had the outriggers painted the same scheme as the rest of the bike and added more graphics. Mo’s bike is a work in progress. Future plans include more graphics honoring Purple Heart Vets. If you see Mo riding around town, be sure to take the time to view this tribute bike – you’ll be glad you did.

BALTIMORE TATTOO CONVENTION Story By Chip Deitrick . Photos By Bob Eppler & Jess.elle Bond
Once again the top ink slingers from across our country and beyond gathered in Baltimore to bring you the latest trends in tattooing and the newest industry standards. The popular event brought to you by Troy Timpel and Tattooed Kingpin lived up to the hipe and took B-more by storm. The three day event was packed and kept the crowd entertained with continuous side-shows, tattoo contests, bull riding and more. An amazing routine put on by The Enigma and Serana Rose included a death defying act of sword swallowing and extreme chainsaw act that kept your anxiety up and at times was so intense I was about to vomit. It was awsome to meet them both and see what a great show they have created. We had a special guest with us tattooing at our booth for the entire weekend. Steve Junkins from Drop of Ink Tattoo out of Mechanicsburg, PA, made the event a huge success and helped us break the magazine into the tattoo community like never before. I didn’t realize before hanging with him most of the weekend what a great artist he is and now what a great friend he has become. It’s the relationships like this that you build and find while working for Fast Lane that keep me rolling out of bed everyday. My hats off to you bro’ thanks for everything. It wasn’t uncommon while walking around the tattoo convention to be passed by fimiliar celebrity faces whether from on TV or from the tattoo community. The lengendary Philadelphia Eddie was in attendance promoting his latest book and signing copies for fans. Amy Nicoletto from the hit TV series LA ink was on hand tattooing and roming the show giving her fans a great opportunity to meet her. The events put on by Tattooed Kingpin seem to always be a great success and if you missed out on joining into the party, don’t worry it will happen all over again next year. So, get out there Delmarva and start that tattoo you always wanted. Tattoo artists today are putting the most amazing detail and creativity into designing tattoos for you… Now is the time to get inked.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Steve Junkins . Drop of Ink Tattoo By Chip Deitrick
It all came to be about 10 years ago when tattooist Steve Junkins walked into a tattoo shop to try to take up an apprenticeship. It took persistence and dedication before the owner of the shop he wanted to work at took the time to look at his portfolio of drawings and realized Steve meant business. Unlike most beginner tattoo artists undergoing an apprenticeship, which sometimes may take a year or more to learn the craft before even applying your first tattoo on someone, it took him only 2 weeks of learning before he tattooed his first piece. He knew this was what he wanted and now many years later manages one of the top tattoo shops in Pennsylvania, Drop of Ink. The award winning shop has received constant media support as well as a growing reputation as a shop to go to for original one of a kind tattoo’s.
Just hanging out with Steve for a long weekend in Baltimore I noticed what a calm, humble man he is. He commits himself to his family which includes two children and a wonderful girlfriend, Angie. He enjoys getting into music, playing guitar in a death metal band and simply relaxing at home, but always keeps family no. 1. Steve is not only a tattoo artist but an avid collector. Steve admires the work of many artists in the tattoo field but one particular artist that stands out is Carlos Torrez and he has plans to get tattooed soon by one of the best tattoo flash design artists he knows... Victor Modafferi. If you are looking for a tattoo shop with an outstanding reputation and work that backs it up then Drop of Ink is the best recommendation I can give. It’s well worth the drive to Mechanicsburg, PA or maybe you will see them at the next tattoo convention in your area. To set your appointment with Steve or the other amazing artists at Drop of Ink check out their website www.dropofinktattoo.com or call the shop at 1-717-691-9442.
Although claiming to not have a particular tattooing style he really enjoys working on portraits and custom freehand work where he draws directly on the recipient and gives each willing client an original tattoo. “My style has changed a lot, even in the last few months, every time I feel like I’m progressing there is always a piece during my progression that stands out. I just did some skulls with stars on a guys arm. It was me trying a new technique and the piece ended up turning out fantastic. Another memorable tattoo I did was the train tattoo. This was one of my most challenging tattoo’s I have finished to date. I feel the best tattoo work comes from the artist when they have the freedom to tattoo what they want,” says Steve. “I enjoy watching the piece turn from a stencil into a finished piece of art.”

DATING IN THE FAST LANE TAKE MY BREATH AWAY By Terri Faust
I recently invited a male friend to accompany me to Philadelphia to check out leather corsets at a fetish shop. I was looking for an outfit for a photo shoot and also to wear while riding the bike. I got stung in the ribcage last summer by a bee and thought a leather corset might remedy the insect problem - plus I could get an even tan on my shoulders AND the corset would draw enough attention that I wouldn’t get run off the road by motorists who apparently can’t see me in regular clothes.
terror on his face as he realized where he was, spun around, and bolted for the door. Frankenstein himself could not have been so fearful as the angry lynch mob chased after him. I opted not to buy a corset that day - $1,000 for bee protection? I don’t think so. As we left the store, my date complained that he hadn’t paid that much money for the engine on his custom bike. That kinda put things into perspective. However, the trip proved to be educational and terribly funny (at my date’s expense). I believe it’s important to step outside your comfort zone from time to time. Who knows, I might just sign up for that Wax Play Class, or the Flogging Workshop, or “How To Blow His Mind.” After all, isn’t life just one big lesson?
Our excursion took us to Sexploratorium in the South Street district, a veritable one-stop shopping adventure for fetish clothing, gear, toys, paraphernalia and instructional classes. As we walked through the door, the gal at the front counter asked “Are you two here for the Wax Play Class? It’s starting in five minutes!” One look at my date’s panic-stricken face answered THAT question. Hell no! I grabbed a class schedule and we headed over to Passional, their sister store, to check out leather gear. As the salesman fit me for a corset, I quickly learned that wearing one takes some getting used to. You feel like a boa constrictor is crushing your lungs, breathing is an effort and light-headedness sets in immediately. It is NOT something one can wear easily while riding a motorcycle! The “twins” were compressed and redirected north to the point where they almost touched my chin. Not a good look. As he cinched the laces tighter, he mentioned they also sell corsets embellished with rings that allow the wearer to be suspended. He added that similar corsets are available for men “if we were into that sort of thing.” Hearing this, my date began backing towards the door with that deer-in-the-headlights look. He retreated into the nearest alcove, only to discover that he was surrounded by dungeon gear, and quickly backed away. I had a flashback of my 12-year-old son absent mindedly following me into a Victoria’s Secret store. He had that same look of

RIDE TO EAT . EAT TO RIDE SANLIN EAST CHINESE RESTAURANT . ELKTON . MD By Jay Kuch, Mystery Food Critique
The time has arrived!! The weather is breaking and I see a lot more of you out on the highway. I’ve been jumping on every opportunity to get out on two wheels and that includes the occasional “extended lunch break.” You die-hards know exactly what I’m talking about - going to lunch and taking an hour ride to ease the burden of working while the road calls. Well, I may not work quite as hard as I usually do in the coming weeks (hopefully my boss doesn’t see this!). This month I had cravings for Chinese cuisine and headed to Elkton, Maryland. Why Elkton? That’s a good question. During my many rides down Rte. 40, I’d pass a huge Golden Buddha. Curiosity finally drew me there and it was time to sample the Sanlin East Chinese Restaurant. The building itself looks like a retired garage or storage facility and once inside I realized that is exactly what it is. It was decorated with an interesting array of Chinesethemed dragons, sculptures and such. After taking a table near the 6’ x 6’ dance floor, I was greeted by a lovely waitress who became very interesting as my meal progressed (keep reading!). It took half an hour for my guest and me to get our drinks, but, on the up side, they were just about all booze. My standard Crown and Coke had to be about 90% Crown and 10% Coke. Thus, I forgave them for the delay. We were provided the traditional fried noodles with dipping sauce and our waitress took our order. Now I’m a simple guy so I stuck with the General Tso’s chicken (it’s my favorite just in case you care!).I was taking in the ambiance and suddenly realized there was a thick black hair in our fried noodles! Worse was that we already finished half the bowl! About a half hour later, when our waitress finally returned to our table, her explanation for the hair was “oopsy.” So now I’m anxiously waiting to see what the main course would bring. I spent the rest of the long wait inspecting my silverware and even my drink to make sure I wasn’t ingesting anything foreign. When our main course finally arrived it looked great BUT our order was only half right. Two of the four dishes were completely not what we ordered. Our waitress’ response again was “Oopsy. I made a boo boo.” After a brief discussion we decided to eat what was served because, after waiting over an hour, we were hungry. The presentation was awesome and I did get my General Tso’s over a huge bed of broccoli and a sizable cup of rice. The dinner was very
FA S T L A N E B I K E R
tasty and hair free. The chicken was juicy and crisp and the sauce was just the right level of spicy. We finished, paid the tab and visited the on-premise gift shop where we found ancient bottles of booze and a variety of oriental trinkets for sale. This place was quite the experience! Bottom line: I’m not sure I’d recommend this restaurant to my readers simply because it took a total of two and a half hours even though only two other tables were occupied. If you’d like to try it, please do so at your own risk. Would I eat there again? I may because the food was very good. Just don’t blame me if you’re not thrilled – you’ve been warned! Sanlin East Chinese Restaurant is located at 953 Pulaski Hwy., Elkton, MD 21921. So until next time, it’s just another day in paradise! Have comments or suggestions? ASK THE ATTORNEY
MOTORCYCLE

ROUND-UP IV bike show bands babes byoBOOZE
1-888-CYCLE-LAW . LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com Given that riding season is finally in bloom, I want to touch on the topic of DWI/DUI as many riders will end up at destinations where alcohol is being served. I feel that it is my duty to inform all of you that the penalties for DUI/DWI are getting harsher and more expensive every year.
NOON
Though I have written on this topic in the past, it again merits discussion given the .08 limit in most every state. For many of us, this means that two beers or drinks in rapid succession will put us very close to the limit, especially if not ingested with food. While the penalties for a .08 to a .10 may not be terrible in some states, especially if it’s your first offense, two beers often leads to three or four and that’s when we start getting into trouble.
TO 5PM
The penalties for driving under the influence vary widely from state to state however, in NJ, in most cases, a first offense will trigger a minimum seven (7) month license suspension and fines upwards of $1,000.00 plus attorneys fees. Adding insult to injury, if you are a PA resident charged with DWI while riding in New Jersey, you will not have the opportunity, even if it is your first offense, to utilize the ARD program usually offered to first offenders in PA and in most cases will have your license suspended for one (1) full year in PA. Normally first offenders in PA, not involved in accident, will be eligible for the ARD program which requires drug and alcohol evaluation and fines but rarely a license suspension. However, this program is only available one (1) time, after that, in PA if you are convicted of DUI within the next ten (10) years, you will do a minimum of five (5) days in prison and receive an automatic twelve (12) month license suspension along with extensive fines and penalties.
SAT JUNE 4th

KUNDRATICKUSTOMS.COM
If your blood alcohol is higher than .10 and you are charged with a second offense within a ten (10) year period in PA, the mandatory jail term grows to thirty (30) days, and another one year license suspension. Similarly in New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, for each subsequent offense, the fines, potential jail time and the license suspensions grow harsher with each offense. Now I know that every one of you reading this column understands that if you are convicted of DWI/DUI, there are penalties. However, experience has taught me that most of the public doesn’t understand how severe the penalties and license suspensions can be. Furthermore, unlike most other criminal offenses, there is very little room to plea bargain on a DUI/DWI, as most states have mandatory fines, jail terms and license suspensions. As a result, many clients are very upset when they learn that they may lose their license for up to a year, even for a first offense. Given that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, please be careful and if you know you may be drinking, a designated driver is always a great idea!!! I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352).

CTM CUSTOMS Just off Rte. 50 down along the eastern shore in Easton, Maryland, tucked away in the back of an industrial park, is CTM Customs.
CTM Customs bills itself as your “One Stop Shop”. They can keep your “scoot” serviced and riding all year. If you’re looking for a new scoot and don’t want to buy a mass-produced bike, yet your wallet isn’t the size of Texas, then talk to owner Matt Elzey and he’ll hook you up. CTM Customs specializes in building the custom motorcycle of your dreams, not a cookie-cutter catalog bike. Matt likes to blend modern edge with a lot of “old skool,” hot rod flavor. You really have to expect this from a man that wears a pork pie hat and groves on rock-a– billy music. You almost expect to see Elvis and Johnny Cash come walking out of the back room while you are there. CTM can also take your existing motorcycle and give it the face lift it needs, just like a plastic surgeon. Matt’s philosophy is simple - no two people are alike in this world, so why should your motorcycle look like any other bike? Your bike should be a reflection of your own individual personality, shouldn’t it? Matt views motorcycles as rolling art and he loves to let his artistic talents and craftsmanship loose. The results are nothing less than cool. When was the last time you saw a suicide shifter on a mass-produced bike? CTM is responsible for many award-winning creations such as “Lucky Bastard” and “Johnny Taco.” Yes, he names each bike he builds. After all, they each have a distinct personality so why shouldn’t they have a distinct name? CTM also deals with every major parts distributor across the country including: Drag Specialties, Custom Chrome, S & S, Baker Drivetrain, DNA, Performance Machine and Jay Brake to name a few. If there is something you need, simply let Matt know and it’s as good as done. So the next time you are down along the eastern shore of Maryland, stop in and see Matt at CTM Customs located at 7913 Industrial Park Rd., Easton, MD or visit Matt on the web at www.ctmcustoms.com.
EDITOR’S NOTE: If you are the first person to visit Matt and correctly identify what CTM actually stands for, have Matt call us and give us your information and we’ll mail you a free Fast Lane Biker Magazine Delmarva t-shirt.

Submitted by: Sammy Banks, NJ Ingredients: 5 medium baking potatoes 1 small onion, sliced salt and pepper to taste 1 (8 ounce) bottle zesty Italian dressing Directions: Cut each potato into five slices. Place onion between slices and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Reassemble each potato; place on a double layer of heavy-duty foil (about 12 in. square) Pour 2-4 tablespoons of salad dressing over each potato. Wrap foil around potatoes and seal tightly. Grill, covered, over medium heat for 50-60 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Grilled Fast Lane Steaks Ingredients: 1/2 cup olive oil 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce 6 tablespoons soy sauce 1/4 cup minced garlic 1/2 medium onion, chopped 2 tablespoons salt 1 tablespoon pepper 1 tablespoon crushed dried rosemary 3 tablespoons steak seasoning 3 tablespoons steak sauce (e.g. A-1) 4 (10 ounce) Delmonico (rib-eye) steaks Directions: Combine the olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, garlic, onion, salt, pepper, rosemary, steak seasoning, and steak sauce in the container of a food processor or blender. Process until well blended. Prick steaks on both sides with a fork, and place in a shallow container with a lid. Pour marinade over steaks, cover, and refrigerate at least 3 hours, or overnight. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, or light charcoal, and wait until coals are completely white. Soaked wood chips may be added to the coals when ready for a smoky flavor, if you like. Remove steaks from marinade, and discard the marinade. Lightly oil the grilling surface, and place steaks on the grill. Cover, and grill steaks for about 10 minutes on each side, or to your desired degree of doneness. 39

BSA BUILD... FINALLY DONE! I know that it seems a long time since I started this bike, but sometimes things don’t work out the way you want them to mechanically and timewise. So anywho, we finally get all the stuff back from the painter, the chromer, and all other culprits involved. Everything I sent out, took forever to get back, eating up a lot of time I did not have to put it all together. See, this bike was going down to the smokeout in Carolina somewhere and it had to be assembled, riden, gone over and be ready to go by the 16th of May. Here it is the middle of April, and things are finally here. A lot to do for one person, let alone doing everything else around here. So we dive into the thing feet first and get busy. Hey, we have gone over a bike assembly before, so don`t get upset if i don`t go thru the whole thing again. Things fell right into place on this build, because there is not a lot to this bike and everything was fitted and re-fitted upon pre- assembly. Every now and then things do go as planed and this was one of them. Damn good thing too, I did not have a lot of time. Engine and trans fell in the hole no problem, got back to a rolling frame so fast I couldn`t believe it. I guess my old buddy Eddie was giving me a hand from beyond. Thought I felt someone watching me. Wiring and all the rest of the bike just fell into place. When all the brass started to go on, you could really see what the owner was looking for. Not going to bore you with all the rest of the stuff. Take a look at the pic`s and see what you think. When I got to the point to ride it, it all came back to me like I just got off a jockeyshift. Down the road and all is well. That is the best feeling in the world. (well almost, but I can`t go there) So after a ride or two, back up on the table to go over everything. Then back for another ride. Well, so far so good, time to call Tank, and tell him to come get it. So take a look. You will probably see him riding it around up in North West Jersey. So thats that!! now I gotta get some time to get my bike serviced and cleaned up. Figures, I will have to do that on my time, when ever that is. Gonna have to check the fridge and plan a course of action, you know how that goes. see ya j.p.fager

IBEW LOCAL 313
ANNUAL HOT ROD & BIKE SHOW
After two days of rainy, cold weather the sky opened just in time on Sunday, April 17th, to welcome members and supporters of IBEW Local 313 to the Annual Hot Rod and Bike Show in New Castle, DE. This event is traditionally one of the first shows of the season and it’s a great time! The electrical workers of Delaware have their own motorcycle club and these folks like to get together for rides and to coordinate events and fundraisers. More than 100 cars and bikes were on display with a variety of vendors and live music provided by the School of Rock. For those who aren’t in the loop, School of Rock is not the name of a band. It’s an actual school where students learn music and the nuances of playing within a band – specifically a rock band. It was very cool to watch a group of teens performing old head rock ‘n roll tunes. It reminded me of the days of garage bands except these kids had some real talent. Kudos goes out to the musicians and performers as well as musical director, Eric Svalgard, on a job well done. These teens performed for five hours and it was awesome. To schedule School of Rock for your next event, call Eric at 302-225-ROCK. We also had a preview of some of the militarythemed bikes you see in this issue of Fast Lane Biker Magazine Delmarva. In fact, we did a photo shoot at the show featuring our May Babe of the Month, Alexis Nicole, on our May featured bike. The Diamond State Roller Girls were out in force and provided a skating exhibition and giveaways to show participants. Food was provided by Dick’s Pit Beef and Gator’s Tators. United Way of Delaware was also represented and was a beneficiary of the show. Special thanks go out to Mike’s Famous Harley Davidson and Abby Normal Tattoos for sponsoring this event. In case you are wondering, 1st place winners of the show are: 1st Place Custom Car went to Chuck Broomay and his Chevy Nova; 1st Place Stock Car went to Mike Watkins and his 1970 GTO; 1st Place Stock Motorcycle went to Jim Snyder and his Iron Head Sportster; and 1st Place Custom Bike went to an awesome custom chopper built by Chucks Classic Cycles and owned by Mike Strackbein. Congratulations, folks! Doug Drummond and the crew at IBEW 313 already have plans for a bigger and better show next year - same place, same time, so plan to be there!
