Editor’s Lane...
his month’s editor’s page is short and sweet. Why? Because this issue is so packed with articles and information that there’s really not much more to say: 1) Outlaw Jam was awesome, 2) Ocean City, MD is THE place to be for bike week September 15th - 18th; 3) If you plan to attend bike week in OC MD, be sure to stop by Dead Freddies for the 3rd Annual Fast Lane Biker Delmarva Biker Bash which will be bigger and better than ever, 4) If you want to participate in the Bikini Contest you should contact us (although walk-ins will be welcomed until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16th, and 5) We are also holding open casting calls for Babe of the Month so stop by and ask for Walt or Caroline!

SENIOR MOMENT Name: Dennis ‘Wooden Nickel’ Glass Age: 65 Location: Harrington, DE
Dennis Glass, better known to most folks as “Wooden Nickel,” was born in Altoona, PA but raised in New Castle, DE. He began riding motorcycles in 1966. His first bike was a 250cc Bultaco. Throughout the years, he has owned many motorcycles including a Norton, Harley-Davidson, Moto Guzzi, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda and Kawasaki to name a few. In his younger days, he enjoyed drag racing, enduro and dirt track racing just for the fun of it. He is currently the proud owner of a 2005 Triumph Rocket III, 2300cc, 140hp. He took the basic bike and added his own graphics, lights and chrome which took close to 90 hours. Wooden Nickel proudly served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1964 through 1970 and also served in the Army National Guard from 1978 through 1980. He was employed as an industrial maintenance mechanic at Diamond Shamrock in Delaware City for over 13 years and then became an over-the-road truck driver, logging over 1,800,000 miles through 45 states. He is now “retired” and driving a school bus for the Lake Forest School District. He is an active 15-year member of Kent County ABATE. You may see Wooden Nickel and his wife of 7 years, Phyllis (aka “Pocket Change”), cruising up and down the Delmarva shoreline. They are members of the Southside Baptist Church and proudly wear the Christian and Patriotic colors. Lucky for us, Wooden Nickel and Phyllis also look forward to reading Fast Lane Biker Magazine each month. If you see them out there cruising the shoreline, be sure to give them a big biker-style hello!

ASK THE ATTORNEY By: Lee D. Gaber, Esquire
1-888-CYCLE-LAW . LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com This months’ column is different from my previous columns in that I am choosing to be a little more self-indulgent. I simply want to share with you the trip I just experienced wherein my wife and I spent a week traveling through Italy. For those of you who have had an opportunity to visit Italy you know what a beautiful country it is and for those who may have an opportunity to go, I would encourage you to do so. To tour the Vatican, see the Sistine Chapel and walk through the coliseum is an experience that I will never forget. What amazed me most about the Vatican was the sheer amount of artwork and of course the paintings by Michelangelo. These paintings need to be seen to be fully appreciated. The other aspect that I found amazing was the unbelievable number of motor-scooters. In both Florence and Rome, there were at least as many scooters as there were cars, however, surprisingly few motorcycles of any make or model. Virtually every street has scooters parked side-by-side in every possible spot. Unfortunately, I am not sure there are any rules of the road in Rome or Florence with the exception of, if it appears as though you can squeeze your car or scooter into a space to beat out the vehicle next to you, you do it! I don’t think I would ever attempt to drive a car or motorcycle in these cities. On a more relevant topic, I am a member of a chat-room called “Biker or Not” which is a social networking website for Bikers. I have found some very relevant information on this site that would be of benefit to many of you. Most recently there was a discussion about insurance and the appropriate price to pay. Some were complaining they were paying too much, and some were bragging about how little they were paying. However, I failed to read any discussion about the type of coverage one should have and the importance of the coverage. It seemed that most were concerned simply with the cost. For those of you who read my columns on a regular basis, you know that I am a huge advocate of purchasing as much insurance for your motorcycle that you can reasonably afford. Although nobody likes to pay insurance premiums, if you are going to spend a couple of hundred dollars for insurance you might as well spend a few bucks more and make sure that you have the coverage you need if and when you ever need it. So as part of this discussion, I put in my two cents stating that while price is always important, the types and limits of coverage you purchase should be the primary concern when purchasing motorcycle, or any other, insurance. I am not going to go into the specifics of coverages in this column as I have stated my preferences many times before, however, I want to reiterate that when purchasing new motorcycle insurance, or switching companies, the price of the coverage should NEVER be your primary factor. Given the tough economic times, every one is looking to save money but the cost difference between a minimal policy and a policy that provides decent coverage, can often be as little as $4-$8.00 a month. For many bikers that ride motorcycles costing $10-$25,000, an extra $4-$8 dollars a month shouldn’t put too much of a dent in anyone’s wallet. In closing I would like to add that we will be making an appearance at the Diversified Riders Block Party and BBQ on August 27th in Ambler, PA and then at Lansdale Bike Night on Saturday, September 10, 2011. Should you attend either of these events, please look for our booth and stop by to say hello! I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352).

tight ship and people seem to appreciate the great food, service and value! 10. How has the Town of Ocean City been treating you, given that you are a pirate? We are in good company with all the other pirates here in OC! The town has welcomed us with open arms and we’ve been happy to join the OC crew.
2. What made you become a pirate? Choices – pirate school or law school! Me high morals had me choose piracy. 3. What brought you to the Eastern Shore of Maryland? Blackbeard and Captain William Kidd use to bring me here as a young lad along with their crew in search of treasure left behind on the ship wrecks around the Delmarva coast.
11. Speaking of Ocean City, how did you like participating in your first Bike Week last year? It was absolutely off the hook. OC has a LOT of events throughout the season but Bike Week is by far our favorite event. All of the awesome bikes, great people and good times put a shiver in me timbers.
4. What prompted you to become a restaurateur? Every pirate needs a port where he can enjoy a good meal and some pirate grog. About 15 years ago, I saw the need to open me bit of pirate paradise on land.
12. We understand you were one of the judges for the Ms. Fast Lane Biker Bikini Contest last year. Seems like you definitely had an eye for the ladies! Will you be one of the judges again this year? Wow … umm ... WOW! I must say I enjoyed doing me duties. The ladies’ antics were most enjoyable and I’m willing to perform me duties wherever and whenever required.
5. How many restaurants do you own and where are they located? I procured three restaurants for the Dead Freddies family – Ocean City, BelAir, and Parkville and a fourth sister restaurant located in Hickory, MD. 6. In addition to being a “happening spot” in the evenings, we’ve noticed your restaurants are also family oriented. Why? Good times and good meals are meant to be spent with your mates and family.
13. We thank you for bringing Fast Lane Biker Magazine Delmarva to your location and allowing us to participate in the festivities during Bike Week. Do you have plans brewing for this year? We appreciate Fast Lane Biker spreading the word and making Bike Week 7. Is there a Mrs. Freddie? I’m a pirate and married a party any pirate would be proud of. DATING IN THE FAST LANE By Land & Air By Terri Faust
Love can be found in the most unexpected places, at the most unlikely times. I’ve been single for over a year, and though I’ve dated quite a bit during that time, and have been very fortunate to have met some very nice guys in the process, that “perfect guy” (for me) has been elusive. In January, I told myself that I was NOT on a quest to find someone - that I was simply going to date when I wanted and enjoy my freedom as well – I put myself on relationship “hiatus” for one year. This past spring I stopped at a grassroots aviation field in Massey, MD that I’d passed many times on bike rides but never realized this place is actually a museum. I’m a huge aviation fan, and while I was visiting that day, touring the hangers and watching the guys work on several restoration projects, I ended up volunteering to work in the office on a regular basis. My first day as a volunteer was coming to a close when a cute guy stuck his head in the door of the office, and asked me if I’d like to go flying. Of course I jumped at the chance and we ended up flying over the Sassafras River in a beautifully restored Stearman – it was a feeling I’ll never forget. I know my fellow bikers think nothing can compare to the wind in your face and the open road, but one flight in an open cockpit and you might just change your mind! I was on a “high” and it wasn’t just the plane ride that was giving me butterflies. I learned from other folks at the airfield that he was a retired Air Force Colonel, that he’d restored the Stearman himself and got a real thrill from taking people up in the plane. The following week he asked me to go flying with him again, this time in a Cessna 140 (similar to what I took flying lessons in several years ago). The 140 is a small plane with very tight quarters which makes it impossible NOT to have physical contact in the cockpit and I was acutely aware that whenever his leg touched mine I got goose bumps. I kept trying to remember when was the last time I felt that way just by someone accidentally brushing against me. But I wasn’t sure if he was interested in me, or if he was available – and I was too afraid to ask outright for fear he’d say “Sorry gal” and reinforce that belief that “all the good ones are taken.” As it turns out, he WAS interested AND available AND charming, AND funny, AND smart, AND decent, AND drama and BS-free. Who would ever guess that when I was least looking, I’d find such a great guy? While he loves sharing his favorite past time with me, I also get to share with him my love for the open road. He recently bought a Harley from a friend, and after a 20 year “hiatus” from riding, he’s back on two wheels and discovering what the road looks like from this dimension versus his bird’s eye view from the Stearman. Recently we rode the bikes during the day, and took a sunset flight in the Stearman that same evening. I can’t think of a better ending to a perfect day. I feel truly blessed to have wandered into that museum a few months ago because I’ve learned that the best gifts are the ones that take you totally by surprise – and continue to make you smile long after the plane is returned to the hanger and the bikes in the garage.

Well folks it’s September already and I’m back. I wasn’t so sure I’d be able to get out and about after my editor added a little “In Search Of” info to my last article. I received many responses to my editor’s request for single ladies to contact me and, perhaps, tame me. I have to say I had some interesting conversations and encounters and I want to thank my editor for indirectly introducing me to Kim, Lisa, Sarah, and a few others. Don’t get me wrong. I had a nice time. But I’m just a man looking for some occasional fun - no settling down yet. Now back to the reason for this column. I was picking up tools for work from Harbor Freight in Newark, Delaware when I found Shellhammers, tucked away in the center of the University Plaza. You would probably miss it (just as I have on many occasions) if you weren’t looking for it or stumble upon it as I did. I wandered in and found a long bar with plenty of taps and a comfortable dining room towards the rear. The bar had three huge televisions so you could watch whatever you want. I mean that literally. The bartender (a lovely blonde whose name we all know I have forgotten) passed me the remote and allowed me to watch whatever I wanted. After a few minutes of channel surfing I settled on Any Given Sunday and turned my eyes to the huge chalkboard which boasted enough microbrews to drown a horse! I spent a few minutes gazing over the brew selections and decided on a Porter - rich in flavor, dark in color and served in a generous snifter glass. The name? Who knows? I had a few and forgot the name. Hell, I’m lucky I remember what I had to eat. But I did use my phone camera to help me remember this time. I salivated over the menu and decided on the Navajo Nachos. They were served on a huge plate with layers of multi-colored chips, lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, jalapeños (see I’m eating my veggies), diced chicken, cheese, and a mystery sauce. If I’d bothered to check the menu I would be able to tell you what was in that sauce but I didn’t and now you’ll have to find out for yourself. To be honest, after a few beers, a shot, and a crown and coke, I was barely able to finish the plate of nachos. The shot was a “fireball.” According to the bottle it’s a cinnamon whiskey that reminded me of the Red Hots candy I use to get as a kid. But back to the nachos - I ate what I could and can proudly say I only left behind about five chips. Unfortunately, there was no room for anything else. I decided to head out but not after checking the daily special board which has something for every night of the week. I personally will be back on Monday for the half-price cheesesteaks. I really can’t pass up that deal. Besides, it will take me away from another night of dirty dishes. Maybe I’ll see you there! Shellhammers is located at 6 University Plaza in Newark, DE. Stop in for some good food and some nice scenery, if you know what I mean. Until next time, remember - it’s just another day in paradise! AOV: DEDICATED TO HELPING THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED OUR COUNTRY AND NOW HAVE FALLEN ON HARD TIMES
Aid Our Veterans (AOV) is a grassroots non-profit organization, based in Baltimore County. Its mission is to help homeless veterans by providing food, shelter, clothing, job counseling/training/placement, and other services. The organization’s operations are exclusively funded through individual and corporate donations, as well as various fund-raising events throughout the East Coast.
Additionally, AOV is a local partner in the VA’s “Stand Down” events, where the organizations set up “tent cities” for homeless vets in Baltimore, Washington, DC and other East Coast cities and provide free food, showers, clean clothing, and haircuts, as well as free medical and dental check-ups, and various types of counseling, including job training. The next Stand Down event to be held in Baltimore will be Sept. 24, 2011. Tickets for AOV’s BikeFest Jamboree cost $35 and are on sale via the website. There are special tailgate packages available: four tickets with tailgate spot cost only $100 (a $40 savings). Tickets for children under 12 are $5. Also, Blobs Park is privately owned and free overnight camping is available to all Jamboree attendees.
AOV has been well-received in the Tri-State biker community through its participation in numerous motorcycle events, including the International Motorcycle Shows; Outlaw Jam in Frederick, MD; Apple Mountain’s East Coast Motorcycle Rally (formerly East Coast Sturgis) in Little Orleans, MD; Stars, Stripes and Spokes Memorial Day Rally in Washington, DC; and local bike shows from Hagerstown, MD to Roanoke, VA.
For more information on Aid Our Veterans, or to make a donation, visit the website at http://aidourveterans. net or call 410-3918721.
AOV is now partnering with Fast Lane Biker Magazine Delmarva and will be setting up a booth (and sponsoring a Bike Wash) at FLBD’s Biker Bash event at Dead Freddies On The Bay during this year’s Bike Week in Ocean City, MD. AOV is also sponsoring its own rally, a “Tribute to Our Troops” BikeFest Jamboree, on September 4 at Blobs Park in Jessup, MD from noon until midnight .The benefit concert features Molly Hatchett and several other Southern Rock bands. Food, drink and various vendors will offer everything from tattoos to motorcycle accessories, arts and crafts, and more. There will be games and activities for kids, as well as a silent auction, mini bike show, Jell-O wrestling matches, and special guest speakers to honor vets in attendance. Two thousand free tickets will be given to active duty military stationed in the area, and to wounded service members from Baltimore/DC area VA hospitals, including Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval hospitals. AOV’s director and Navy Veteran, Tom Conlan, founded the organization three years ago and has helped numerous homeless vets, even renovating his large waterfront residence in Essex, MD into a transitional housing shelter, where once-homeless vets are living, working and getting back on their feet.

HELL YES! THIS IS ROLLER DERBY!!
Photos courtesy of Randy ‘Papa Razzi’ Litwin Bikers ride. We ride TO a destination and back again. While we’re out, we eat, shop, stop to take in sites, etc. Looking for something new and exciting? Fast Lane Biker Delmarva found it! It was a Saturday evening and FLBD was invited to share the excitement as the Diamond State Roller Girls (“DSRG”) competed against Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s Dutchland Blitz. Whips, jammers and everything you would expect from roller derby, less the theatrics of the 1960s, were executed live, up close and personal. These girls are real athletes and take the game seriously.
The DSRGs, formerly the Wilmington City Ruff Rollers, is a “for skaters, by skaters” do-it-yourself organization providing a competitive environment in which non-traditional female athletes can participate in a sport that embodies an edgy lifestyle. No wimps allowed! This is hard hits and hard work action. DSRG is part of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (“WFTDA”) apprenticeship program and follow all WFTDA rules and guidelines. The DSRG league was started in March, 2006 by locals, Naughty Nikki Napalm, WitchBlade, Will O’ the Whip, and Lolli Dagger. They are the first all-female do-it-yourself skater owned and operated, Flat Track Roller Derby League in Delaware. By the way, they are always looking for fresh, new talent in case you have the urge to try out! These girls are hard working, determined athletes who are ready to get down and derby! You can find them at the Christiana Skating Center, 801 Christiana Road, Newark, DE. Tickets are $12 at the door and $10 if ordered in advance. The next time you want to organize a friendly ride and find the group debating the destination, think Roller Derby!! BYKER BIZZARE HOSTS 1ST ANNUAL RAT-KICKA
It Was HOT! On July 23rd, Byker Bizzare hosted their 1st annual Rat-Kicka in Dover, DE. The day lived up to the weather channel’s prediction of 100+ degrees by noon but that didn’t stop a great bunch of volunteers from turning out to make this event a success (a blessing as anyone who does these things without a huge budget will tell you). Don and Bonnie extend their heartfelt thanks to all of them.
The show featured Rat Rods and Classic motorcycles (1970’s and under). There were hand-crafted trophies provide by Byker Bizzare’s good friend, J. Davis, for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place people’s choice in both Rat Rod and Classic Bike. Gift certificates courtesy of Zoom Cycle, Chucks Classic Cycles and Diamond Motorsports were awarded for the best bikes from the 70’s, 60’s, 50’s and 40’s and under. Byker Bizzare presented an “owner’s choice” gift certificate to the best Rat and Bike. Games and prizes were donated by local businesses - a Hula Hoop Contest sponsored by Restaurant 55 of Dover, the Tricycle Drag Race sponsored by My Life, My Pain tattoo shop of Dover with the actual tricycles provided by L&D Suzuki. Special thanks go out to the owners of the 15 Rat Rods and 12 bikes who entered the show as well as the 120 people who enjoyed the event. Look for the 2nd annual event being planned for May, 2012.

TATTOO TONY INKS MISS CAROLINE AT OUTLAW JAM
I’ve never had a tattoo in my life. I’ve had my ears pierced multiple times, fake nails and some other stuff I won’t get into here - but I’ve never been inked. That all changed at Outlaw Jam. When my daughter, Leigh, passed away last year, the thought crossed my mind to get a tattoo. But it was exactly that – a thought. Leigh loved Garfield and I thought maybe a small Garfield on my shoulder, with a halo (and some devil horns), sleeping in the heavens with my daughter’s name in the clouds. Simple, right? I just couldn’t bring myself to call and make an appointment. Even if I picked up the phone, who would I call? During Outlaw Jam (if you missed it you missed a GREAT time), I ran into Tattoo Tony’s manager, Bill. We talked about the magazine business and about Tony’s new ventures and, of course, I mentioned the tattoo. We both had to get back to work and I told Bill I’d stop by Tony’s set up to say hello. I finished laying out our booth and took off towards Building 9 which had become Tony’s temporary shop. For those of you who are not familiar with celebrity tattoo artist Tattoo Tony here’s a little information for you to digest. He is widely-recognized as Bret Michaels’ official tattoo artist but after touring the country and appearing on Bret Michaels VH1 reality show ‘Life As I Know It’, Tony’s tribally tattooed face became recognizable everywhere. In an episode where Tattoo Tony “tattoos” Bret’s kids with a marker, America was drawn into the magnetism that is Tattoo Tony and recognized him as a fun and caring man and not just an artist. As a result, Tattoo Tony’s own reality show ‘Under My Skin’ was born and he has become somewhat of a celebrity who now is making public appearances throughout the USA.
Tony, Bill and I talked a bit and Tony mentioned the tattoo I wanted (Bill had already explained it). Tony was ready. I took a deep breath and grabbed my photographer to have the moment memorialized. It happened that fast. Within 20 minutes I was in the chair. It hurt. Not horrible but enough. I believe the outlining hurt more than the color. Tony was very skilled and moved swiftly. About half way through, second thoughts crept in. I asked Tony if anyone ever asked to stop about halfway through. My question was met with dead silence. I assured everyone I wanted to move forward and the sound of skin being inked resumed. I clenched my teeth, dug my nails into my palms and waited for Tony to show me the final product. When that moment arrived, I could not have been more pleased. A fitting memorial to my daughter, forever etched. I thanked him for making me feel so comfortable. I walked back to the booth, blinking back tears. Not because it hurt. Because I’ve been trying to find a way to show the world how much I love my daughter and now it was done. I was happy. Of course I’ll be showing off the new tattoo at Dead Freddies On The Bay, 64th and Coastal Highway in Ocean City, MD for bike week, September 15th – 18th. So come on down! Who knows? You may even get to meet Tattoo Tony in person!

OUTLAW JAM2: THE NEW ‘MUST ATTEND’ EVENT OF THE SUMMER RIDING SEASON
Frederick, MD - Amid a sea of lawn chairs, blankets and coolers spread out over the Frederick Fairgrounds, thousands waited patiently in 102˚ blistering heat for their favorite bands to take the stage. The lineup was nothing short of incredible and diverse.
On Saturday, gates opened to performances by Frederick Rock School and ended with one hell of a concert by headliners NY Dolls, Poison and Motley Crew. The party continued on Sunday with the Edgar Winter Band, Elvin Bishop and Brian Seltzer. Black Stone Cherry, The Nighthawks, Kix, Korupt, the Freddie Long Band, Shooter Jennings and No Shame rounded out the playlist. For Sons of Anarchy fans, cast members Charlie Hunnam (Jax), Kim Coates (Tig), Theo Rossi (Juice), Tommy Flanagan (Chibs) and Emilio Rivera (Marcus) were on-hand for autograph sessions. Female pool champion Jeanette (“Black Widow”) Lee took down challengers in one-on-one competitions. Celebrity tattoo artist, Tattoo Tony, left his “mark” on many over the weekend, including Fast Lane Biker Delmarva publisher, Miss Caroline. Vendors, drinks, bike displays and souvenirs memorializing the event were abundant. Special shout out to Poison’s C.C. DeVille who was gracious enough to stop by the Fast Lane Biker booth to check out the totally restored classic Harley-Davidson bikes on display courtesy of Chuck’s Cycles. Congratulations to promoter Cal Brock on a very successful event. See you next year!!

STURGIS 2011 QUITE THE ADVENTURE
When the Strip Club Choppers posse rolls into a town for an event we are often the center of attention and building a bike with a fully functional dance pole that shoots 4 foot flames only serves to magnify the attention. The new Stripperglide was a long time in planning and could not have been completed without my good friend Tim Kirsch and his guys Robert and Chris who did all the hands on building and design. When you want a stripper pole on your bike that shoots flames there is no catalog to order from... Just sayin’. Special thanks go out to Kevin from American Drag Seats for the custom bag lids and seat, John Shope from Sinister for the bags and rear fender, Ken from Tricky Light for the LED’s, Fullsac Performance Pipe, Tailgunner Exhaust, Bill from Legends Supreme and Biktronics. Without all the contributions from these companies the project could not have been completed. We debuted the bike between concerts at our vending area and the crowd literally formed a traveling circle around us as I drove carefully though the crowd with SCC girl Lara on the pole while it shot flame 4 ft into the clear Stugis sky. To say the reaction was favorable is an understatement. You know my montra... “HAVE POLE - WILL TRAVEL”. I guess now its “HAVE FLAME THROWING POLE - WILL TRAVEL”. My good friend and fellow englishmen Steve Kelly did a great photo shoot of the new Stripperglide at the new and improved Glencoe Campground. Look for these in a magazine feature very soon. Big thanks to Sean and Jason from Glencoe for their hospitality. When I started SCC 8 years ago, my goals were to party, travel and meet females. This year in Sturgis, my priorities came full circle as I got engaged and spent way too much time babysitting one of my franchises. Its scary that I am now the voice of reason and setting the example of how to behave. Careful, Hell may freeze over at any moment. We now have 18 states that have franchise representation and I would like to officially welcome onboard SCC of Indiana and Florida. Next year will see a reduced tour schedule for the SCC Roadhouse as we turn over the events to our family of franchises. Wow, the times they are a changing but for the better. HANDLEBAR SWAP... THE END RESULT So where were we were... waiting for a wiring diagram from the factory, but that was not happening. No one called back. No suprise there. So I called a local dealer, he had what I needed and faxed it to me. The diagram was fine except for one thing... it was really hard to read with all those small letters, everything was really fuzzy. So, off to Staples I go to get this thing enlarged as big as I can, so us older folks can read it (I refuse to use one of those magnifyer things). Now we have a diagram that Ray Charles could read, so we start to run all the wires needed and write down the correct wire color on a list, and next to it the related color on the new bars by their color code. Sounds easy, and it is, just takes a little time. So once that is figured out, you have to cut the wires to length, leaving enough wire to let the bars go back and fourth without pulling on the wires. To make the new stuff match the old stuff, I have to put them in stainless braid and clear coat them so they match the existing harness. again, sounds easy, but takes time. This is why doing something like this costs so much. Also, the material you need is not cheap either. I always try to get the braid as close to the plug as possible, for looks, but leave enough room to assemble the plug at the end. So at that point, the connections are simple enough to do, except when you get to the headlight circuit. Due to the mini switches in the new bars, they can not take a high amperage draw, as stock style switches, something is gonna fry. So to protect that from happening, you have to add a relay to handle the load, which they give you in the kit. This allows the switch to work with a lower amperage at 12 volts, and lets the relay take the amps that the lights draw. So you wire in the relay, just like you would wire a starter relay. Does the same thing. The cool thing about these bars, to switch the lights from low to high beam, you just twist the left hand grip forward for high beam, then back for low beam. The switch is internal in the grip. So, after doing all that, power it up and do all the proper checks to make 41
sure nothing goes up in smoke. That really sucks. Everybody is working as it should. Lets move onto the brakes and the clutch. We ran the lines already and installed the new hydraulic clutch side cover, no big deal. There is a little pin at the end caps on both grips. Push it in and the cap comes off. Under the cap is a small plastic funnel that you push into the plug hole in the bars and an o-ring seals it. They give you a long bolt, washer and nut, that you need to bleed both master cylinders. So you fill the funnel with dot5 fluid and gently push the tool in and out and pump the air out of the cylinder. You can feel the unit working at this point and it is time to open the bleeder at the brake, or clutch, and keep working the master until all the air is out, keeping the funnel full as you go. When all is good, you pull the tool out all the way, take the funnel out and put the plug in and that's that. Again, not as easy as it sounds. With all that done, you have to make up the throttle cables. First, put the cables in the proper place, letting the bars move from side to side, without bonding the cables, then cut the casing to length. Install the casings into the holder on the carb. Here comes the fun part... You install the cable end in the inner cable, install it on the carb. Now you have to snake the inner cable up through the casing to come out at the grip end. Really not an easy task. You need to be carefull not to un-wind that cable in the casing. I could not get good pics of the bar end, the stuff is to small, but you slide the cable end on the inner, get it to the throttle, install it in the grip, making sure you do not have to much slack. To cut off the excess inner, you have to heat up the cable, being very carefull, with a lighter unti it just starts to get red, and cut it off. The heat fuses the strands of the cable together so they do not unravel. Now check to make sure the throttle works well, and thats a rap. I called the factory and they said that the first one you do will take about 16 to 18 hours to install. They ain`t kidding! It is a lot of work, but the end result is killer. So that's the whole story and I'm sticking to it. Enough for today. Will get back to the BSA next month. Gonna go take this bike for a ride, maybe I'll come back or maybe not. It's a nice day and you know how that goes. see ya later... j.p.fager
