HID BULBS

HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE BULBS

• Automotive High Intensity Discharge bulbs or HID bulbs are becoming more popular in the aftermarket as vehicles that are factory equipped with them become older. • HID light sources provide the brightest illumination available and are considered the benchmark against which other forward lighting technologies are measured. • HID lights do not have a filament to break or degrade, meaning they last up to 10 times longer than standard halogen lights. • The bulb is filled with a noble gas (Halogen or Xenon). A high-voltage electric charge creates an arc between the two tungsten electrodes, igniting the gas and creating light. • The current is produced and maintained by a ballast unit that steps up the vehicle’s 12-volt power supply to the necessary voltage and then dropping it to a steady 85 volts or 42 volts once the light is illuminated. • Winzer’s HID bulbs are only for vehicles equipped with HID bulbs from the factory and not intended for use in aftermarket HID wiring kits and systems.
