WHAT I T WAS A L L A B O UT
AS PART OF OUR ‘THANKS FOR GIVING’ INITIATIVE FOR BLACK FRIDAY 2015, INSTEAD OF DISCOUNTING, WE DECIDED TO DONATE TO CHARITY... The idea came from a desire to support local charities and turn discounting into something more positive before Christmas, waiting until December 26th in order to give our customers a genuine Boxing Day sale. Under our ‘Thanks for Giving’ initiative, 10% of our net profits were donated to charities local to our 221 stores, each chosen by our store Crew and head office staff. The initiative took place between Thursday 26th and Monday 30th November 2015 across all FatFace stores and at fatface.com and after a great response from customers, as well as significant support on Facebook and Twitter we managed to raise just under £200,000! This amount was divided equally between all of the chosen charities. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Crew for their active enthusiasm for the initiative and all our customers who made a purchase during this time. Read on to find out how your donations made a difference around the UK and Eire.

Erskine
Erskine were founded in 1916 at the Princess Louise Scottish Hospital for Limbless Sailors and Soldiers with the aim of caring for the service men and women who had been injured in active service. Erskine now have four care homes; two in Bishopton, one in Edinburgh, one in Glasgow as well as 44 cottages on the Erskine estate. The support provided ranges from residential & palliative care to physiotherapy and speech & language therapy for veterans and their spouses. The charity is solely reliant on charitable donations as they don’t receive monies from the government. The charity was excited about the prospect of working with the local FatFace team to spread awareness and raise additional funds. The Glasgow Byres Road team chose this local charity as part of our ‘Thanks for Giving’ campaign; it was particularly close to Store Manager, Kirsten Thomson’s heart. Kirsten put this charity forward in memory of her grandfather; Flight Lieutenant J W Thomson who spent his final year at Erskine’s residential care home. Not content with FatFace donating 10% of their net profits over the Black Friday weekend, the team joined forces with local FatFace stores Silverburn and Glasgow Fort to “ZipSlide the river Clyde”. On the weekend of the ‘Thanks for Giving’ event in true FatFace style, the team joined forces with the charity to create a Christmas wrapping station in store. The team’s efforts didn’t go un-rewarded with local patisserie, Matilda’s, providing some delicacies raising money and bringing local businesses together for a great cause. In totality, the FatFace Foundation donated £198,419 over the Black Friday weekend of which £889.77 went to Erskine. In addition to this corporate donation the store Crew and the local community raised a further £850. Well done all and thanks for giving; it really does change people’s lives. erskine.org.uk

“Such a thrill and an adrenalin rush!! Only problem is, I think the team in Byres Road are a bit dubious of my “bright ideas” now! I was so proud of the money we raised to go to such a fantastic cause... and a great opportunity for the team to get out and really live life outside 9 to 5!” Kirsten Thomson, Glasgow Byres Road Store Manager

East Anglian Air Ambulance Southwold and the surrounding areas are the furthest point from any hospitals and the East Anglian Air Ambulance service allow a quick and rapid response to all major accidents saving thousands of lives every year. Air ambulances are funded fully by donations only and the Crew felt that the charity deserved their support to help them to continue delivering such an essential, life-saving service. eaaa.org.uk
“The money you and your colleagues have raised will help us to continue to fly the East Anglian Air Ambulance seven days a week, responding to an average 100 calls a month. For example, it costs £200 per hour in fuel to fly one of our helicopters and each high visibility, fire retardant flying suit costs £551.” Cindy Dickerson, Suffolk Fundraising Administrator, East Anglian Air Ambulance

Isabella Peatfield Memorial Fund Isabella (aged 5) died in the 2004 Sri Lanka tsunami. Her parents have been continuously fundraising ever since to help support those affected to go on with their lives, funding the building of several orphanages, playgrounds and a library. Isabella had just completed her first term at a small village school which numerous members of the Ashbourne store Crew also attended or worked at over the years so felt a genuine desire to support this cause. isabellapeatfield.com
