About me My name is Fatih Sarikaya. I am a 21year old student living in Zaandam. I am currently enrolled in my second year of Architecture and the Built Environment at Delft University of Technology. Being able to create something out of nothing is the reason behind the joy I experience in every second that I spent on my studies. Architecture allows me to enjoy this process in various ways and different scales. Aside my love for architecture, my interests are 3D-printing, reading, traveling and photography.

For this course I had to design a sculpture garden for the Escher museum in Den Haag using Grasshopper. The only requirement was that the garden had to be four meter below ground level. My design is based on a pattern that I created in Grasshopper. I placed parts of this pattern in a way that requires the visitor to walk a certain route. The sculptures play an important role in this route. The pavilion on the next page is also designed in Grasshopper.

Infrastructural approach of my design

This project was about improving the conditions of an existing neighbourhood in Rotterdam-Zuid. I did this by adding various types of houses to attract different kinds of people to the area. To regulate the watermanagement in the district I designed a water square which serves as a temporary storage of the rainwater. Introducing a community centre in the middle of the complex will also add value to the project, because people from different parts of the city will come together in this place.

This project was about the renovation of an existing residential building in Delft. Different aspects of the building like indoor climate, construction and facade should be improved. In this portfolio I will only show the building details of this project. I wanted to give the building a natural look by adding wood into the facade. In my search for the wood I came across MOSO bamboo. Next to the aesthetic value that the bamboo gives to the building, it is also a very sustainable material. With a special click-system the bamboo planks are easy to attach to the existing facade.

The plan was to visit the main project, in my case Turin (Italy), but because of the COVID-19 pandemic we were not able to do this. Thus our teachers had to improvise this course. That is why they came up with analyzing projects in different metropolises in Europe. I have analyzed the projects through various research techniques. After doing this for every project I made an abstract drawing and put it in the matrix. In this way it was much easier to compare the projects with each other.
