STUDIO PROJECTS This category of my work demonstrates the range of abilities from basic means of drawing representations to the use of digital programs. In each project, there are certain design challenges posed that deal with issues of creating utilitarian spaces.
GLOBAL FOODS SUPERMARKET NAME: Global Foods Supermarket YEAR: 2016 TYPOLOGY: Supermarket SITE LOCATION: University City, Sharjah PROGRAM: Supermarket space for packaged and fresh produce, back of house storage space. AIM: This interior architecture project was designed to change the perception of supermarket design in the Middle East, particularly in Sharjah, UAE. The site given was a 1,240 sqm plot of rectangular floor, that had a grid of columns and a glazing system as a part of the shell. The idea behind Global Food’s brand is that it brings locally produced foods and products from different countries under one roof. I chose to work on sensual experiences in the supermarket such as smell and sight so that it becomes a tool for way finding. I have started by designing the cart and display units of the supermarket. WASHITSU NAME: WASHITSU YEAR: 2015 TYPOLOGY: Restaurant SITE LOCATION: Mirdiff City Centre, Dubai PROGRAM: Live cooking station, family dining spaces, VIP room AIM: As a first approach for the project, I have developed a case study that looks at similarities between Japanese and Emirati traditions. The results were quite interesting because I have discovered that both cultures have a similarity in their dining tradition, which is dining on the floor. Issues of privacy in the Arab tradition were tackled by segragating private dining rooms from the main dining space- which is the live cooking bar in the centre of the restaurant (as in the floor plan). The main bar is placed at the centre of the plan to highlight its primary importance and to show a manifestation of the craft required to prepare a single piece of sushi.

DESIGN BUILD NAME: Design Build YEAR: 2016 TYPOLOGY: Group project (15 students); interior design build SITE LOCATION: American University of Sharjah, College of Architecture, Art, and Design PROGRAM: Display, pin up surface for presentation, seating and working spaces for stu dents AIM: This project is a refurbishment of an existing interior space in the building of Architectue, Art, and Design in the university. The aim of this project was to provide work space for students, seating and gathering area, a flexible wall system that houses two display cases, a pinup surface of metal panels, and doors that open up to create additional small work surfaces. As for the materiality, the primary material used was metal which made up the wall. Movable furniture pieces were made of wood (red oak).

BIKE LANE NAME: Bike Lane YEAR: 2014 TYPOLOGY: Retail SITE LOCATION: Burjuman Metro Station, Dubai PROGRAM: Bike shop, bike repair station and parking, cafe AIM: For this project, we started exploring retail space. The project assigned was a bike shop inside Burjuman metro station, Dubai. My approach towards this project was an urban one in terms of materials. The project is situated in a very busy site and so I chose to compliment the site and carry its nature into the project. I have oriented the floor plans into stations where each space has its own function. The retail space designed, BIKE LANE, aims at promoting the cycling culture in Dubai. LIVE WORK NAME: Live Work YEAR: 2014 TYPOLOGY: Residential SITE LOCATION: Bastakiya, Dubai PROGRAM: Live, work, design, exhibit. AIM: The site given for this project was in Bastakiya, the historical district in Dubai.
My client was an artist; particularly a potter. The program of this project revolved around work space, display and museum area, meeting room, and the living space which includes the bedroom, kitchen, etc. It is a multipurpose space that serves as a living space for the artist, their work station and also a museum where they can display their artwork. During the design process, there was an attempt at modernizing the traditional mashrabiya as a light filter as seen in the study below.

CERAMICS As a passionate interior designer, I am always keen to get into the practice of exploring different materials. This part of my work deals with clay and the different techniques involved to create a final object. Pinch pots are done by hand. Wheel pots have the wheel involved in the process; and slab pots are more geometric ones done with the help of a slab roller.

LIGHT This project was done out of personal interest in exploring light, shadows, and typography. and typography.
CERAMICS LIGHT
LIGHT COLUMN This project is planned as an interactive light installation which defines the viewer’s circulation around it in space. Viewers are expected to go around the vertical element while reading the cutout text of backlit poetry verses by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The concept behind this installation is to encourage interaction between people and an artwork in space. It serves as a vertical object where people stop by and roam around to read motivational phrases. In addition, the light element is used as an object that lights the wise words of Sheikh Mohammed’s poetry. “Light” is used both literally and metaphorically in this piece. Literally in the sense that it contains a physical light source and metaphorically because of the light materiality and fluidity of the object. Physical Prototype

PRODUCT DESIGN Challenging materials and their uses has always been something I am interested in. Wood could be associated with being a hard and heavy material. However, I have used wood to develop a product- particularly clutches.

LOOP
CLUTCH CONCEPT
PROJECT STATEMENTLOOP clutch was an attempt to change the preconceptions people have about clutches. Its a new way to challenge the idea of curves since it takes on more like the basic square shape. The main concept of the design is in the loops of wood that go around and wrap the different planes or faces of the clutch. They stop at instances where they need to stop and have functional purposes. These include: they form the bas of the clutch, used as an opening point for the clutch and they also help create fluidity between the faces of the clutch. In addition, they have a different wood finish which provides contrast.
