FABRIC PROJECT CATALOG
Gathered was inspired by finding joy in the simplest things. Gathering food from the garden on a warm spring day, gathering wild flowers along the roadside and best of all,
gathering with the ones we love most. I hope it will inspire you to savor the small things,
live a simpler life
and cherish the moments with your loved ones.
“The patterns of our lives have the capacity to connect deeply within us. They are simple expressions of our joy.” I grew up snuggled back in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, where my love for patterns started a very long time ago. I spent countless afternoons at my mom’s creative quilt shop, sewing, crafting and falling in love with fabric. A childhood spent with hands in my mother’s fabric stashes quickly turned into dreams of designing my own fabrics. My husband and I spent a few years tucked away in a little vine covered cottage on the central coast of California, but have recently returned to our roots. I am mostly inspired by the great outdoors, from the largest of trees to the tiniest of leaves. Creating patterns with summery sweet hues is my happy place. I thrive on botanical gardens, sunshiney days, and nature walks- camera in one hand, sketchbook in the other. My goal has always been to create patterns that are organic and natural, joyful and lovely. I believe patterns are one of the ways that we can express ourselves and make our spaces beautiful. I love to weave parts of my life into each one of them, making the design process and end results very personal and meaningful.

“...THE WILDFLOWERS ARE BREATHTAKING! I LIKE TO THINK THAT IT’S THE HARSH WINTER’S WAY OF REWARDING YOU IN SPRING.”
1. Hi there, Bonnie! Congratulations on releasing your latest fabric collection, Gathered! We understand you drew a lot of inspiration from gardening. Can you elaborate on how this green thumb inspiration translated into fabric prints? Thank you! You’re right, I love to garden and couldn’t help but let it shine through in this collection. The garden is the heart of our home, and a place where I love to spend time. It’s a quiet place where I can go to renew my mind, but also a place where my children can be fully entwined. They help me plan the garden, start and transplant seedlings, pick flowers and harvest the veggies. I always let them choose their favorites, and I love seeing the wonder in their eyes as they
watch everything grow! Plus, there’s something extra special about grabbing a snack straight from the garden. It’s for all these reasons that I love digging in the dirt, and wanted to incorporate that into this collection. 2. Since we’re on the subject of gardening, what’s some of your favorite things to grow? Well, I usually hoard my garden space for vegetables, but this year I made ample space to grow a cut flower garden. I find that while the vegetables nourish our bodies, the flowers nourish my soul. I find them endlessly inspiring and they fuel my creativity. Some of my favorites are cosmos, dahlias, poppies and ranunculus. 3. In your print titled “Simple Living,” how did you narrow down all the elements used in it? To me, “Simple Living” means that life goes by more slowly because we’re living it with intention. The icons that made their way into this print all represent things that inspire us to live more simply - growing our own food, flowers and herbs, reading and sewing. A few of my favorite things, like honey and tea, made their way into this print as well!
When I design, I keep three words in mind: Ethereal. Sweet. Delicate.
me by request when I was a little girl, and I can remember being the only one in school that kept flowers at my desk. Today, I grow them so that I can keep vases of fresh flowers by my work desk. I think it’s the best way to breathe life into a room!
5. Can you tell us about a recent trip you last took that left you feeling inspired?
7. What would you love to see makers sew with Gathered?
Yes! Funny you should ask! We’re actually in the middle of a “month long” road trip to explore the country as I type this! We’re traveling in a vintage airstream that I recently renovated and my mission has been to collect, document, photograph and arrange a bouquet of wildflowers at every place we stop. So far my favorites have been from “Wyoming,” the wildflowers are breathtaking! I like to think that it’s the harsh winter’s way of rewarding you in spring.
I will never tired of seeing what beautiful things talented makers create with my designs. I suppose my favorites are alway the ones that mark milestones or might be kept as heirlooms. Quilts for loved ones, swaddles for young ones and the special things that we make and cherish for ourselves.
6. There’s a quote from Impressionist Claude Monet found on two, different prints! How did his words make their way into this collection?
Without hesitation: Foraged Garland Peony, Unruly Terrace Earth and Ariel Blush.
4. Sum up your design style in three words.
This quote, “I must have flowers, always and always” has always sat well with me. It’s not only lovely, but it’s been true for me nearly my entire life. My mother grew flowers for
8. If you had to only pick three prints from this collection to wear forever, what would they be and why?
