INCA CONCEPT IN A SCRATCHED LIVING SPACE Projects II - March-July 2011 1st place in the 5th edition of Javier Cayo Campos Competition - Basic Level (Projects 1, 2 and 3)
T
Concept
Earth The next step was to scratch the earth and locate the volumes underneath it, in an undefined location. At this point, they were taken as conceptual spaces and not just inca stones.
This is a conceptual project that involves the understading and put in practice of the Inca architetconic language in order to seek a contemporary architectonic space with those natural and spatial qualities that they used to get in their constructions. The first step was to create a composition of Inca stones, parting from an existing one, to understand the way they used to work the stone to get the volumes they wanted and needed. It was also important to know how they used the dovetail joint to get the pieces together.
Lighting It was necessary to create access points to these spaces by digging into the earth. One of them was fluvial and the other, pedestrian. This also worked as a natural lighting source that, mixed with the use of earth and space, meant a great expression of natural Inca’s way of living. 6
Spatial Development In the final stage and also the biggest scale, I decided to keep only one of the starter volumes and develop its interior subspaces and the connections between them and with the exterior.
Functional For this stage I decided to keep 2 volumes as solid and 1 as the negative of it. This is the point where it starts to appear interior circulations and the definition of the private, semi-public and public areas of the project. This turns it into a functional space, without loosing the natural qualities obtained previously.
The wooden volume turned into a public opened amphitheater and the final interior space is divided in 3 visually linked floors by double heights.
Artistic At the same time, diverse geometric forms started to appear in the space boundaries and its circulations, caused by the negative of the stones that were taken away. These forms, along with the materials chosen, meant an artistic expression in a conceptual architectonic space. 7

MEDIA LIBRARY FOR LIMA’S MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART Projects IV - August-December 2012
E
Location
Concept
The project is located in the city of Lima, Perú, in the district of Barranco, where is located the actual city’s Museum of Contemporary Art. The coexistence between the existing museum and the proposed media library was necessary for the project to work. The project is placed there as a transitional zone between a natural enviroment like Armendariz Cliff on one of its fronts and an urban area on the other,
The project idea comes from the concept of technology functionality and more precisely, computers, with information as the most important part for the user. The idea is to represent this functionality in an architectonic project focused on the ease of access to information.
Interior Form The motherboard is the main part of a computer and the one that let its information flow and get to us. Most of its parts are located in longitudinal sockets that let the information move along the circuits that surounds them. The interior part of the project is thought to represent a computer’s motherboard, having a longitudinal organization of the media library’s architectural program, with functional packages linked with passages inbetween, also seeking for a vertical interaction 8
9
Facades The project is designed to have 3 of its facades opened to get as more natural light as possible because of its need of it. At the same time, the entire volume is formed as a continous plane that wraps the interior program. On the middle of this “plane it seems a continous trasluscent line that follows the same tour so the natural light gets in from above.

Projects VII - March-July 2014
H
Location
The project is located in the district of Villa el Salvador in the city of Lima, PerĂş. Villa el Salvador has one of the highest rates of disabled people, being the majority of them visually impaired.
Concept The project is intended as a way to show the society how the visually impaired live and make them change their way of thinking. These people are usually not considered and live isolated from the rest of the population because of the lack of facilities and preparation they are offered with.

To begin, it is proposed a public pedestrian bridge that goes across the terrain so people may use it as a passage and also access the project. At the same time, a recreational area for the visually impaired comes down to a lower level so people crossing the bridge can look at it. This helps the society learn about all the things they have to go through to get rehabilitated and how hard it is for them to live normal life.
Form and Distribution The angular form of the passage comes from the idea of having these angles as reference points for the visually impaired because of their need of always being aware about where they are. The project follows the passage tour, with one of the sides as the most important and formed completely by medical and administrative areas and with the major part of the program. The cultural zone and the social areas are placed on the other side, in front of the first one and it’s formed by 3 smaller volumes. The activities developed here also serve to the city. Finally, the recreational areas for the visually impaired ocupy the whole available area in a lower level with the exception of the parkings. These last are located in the less crowded fronts of the project as a manner of terraces, taking advantage of the slope and creating a barrier for the noise that comes from the streets.

The Library for the Visually Impaired is designed to get advantage of the other senses that patients develop at a higher level in order to move around, feel and enjoy the space. It was necessary the use of acoustic panels on walls, flooring, roof and in the double height bookshelves. Also, it was proposed a metalic louver on the roof’s skylight that opens and closes according to the amount of light needed on the inside.
14
The facade design comes from the need to control the natural light in some areas of the project. The idea is to get different kind of sensations in the patients while these walk through the spaces. It is known that some of them can feel the light changes and it this can be a good feeling or not, depending on each so controling the amount of light was essential. The material chosen to perform this function was perforated corten steel with a vertical architectural language to not only work as a light filter, but also give the city a friendly facade with an uncommon and intrepid design. The cultural buildings use the same architectural language for their lateral facades but in this case the chosen material is exposed concrete with the vertical design in low relief as a manner of avoiding the entry of natural light in the major part of it because of the need of darkness in the Auditorium and the Theater for Visually Impaired

“PANTANOS DE VILLA” R WITH CULTURAL & SCIENTIFIC COMPLEX Projects VIII - March-July 2015 Link to Urban Research and General Proposal (In Spanish) HERE
Y
Location and General Urban Proposal The project is located in the district of Chorrillos in the south of Lima. There are also located the ”Pantanos de Villa” marshlands, which make up a natural protected area that allows the nesting and transit of migratory and stationary birds with abundance of flora and fauna. The urban regeration consists maily in the recovery of these marhes by the disappearance or relocation of industries located in areas formerly marshy as seen on the plan. This will also help to recover and develop the identity of the people living in Las Delicias de Villa housing estate by creating diverse ecologic solutions for the common problems existing in their way of living.

Final Project Area Las Delicias de Villa housing estate Av. Huaylas Marshland Recovery Propose 16
Proposed Cultural & Scientific Complex
Photomontage of General Proposal. Marshland recovery with a referential cultural building.
Micro Urban Proposal It is proposed a residential area next to the recovered marshland, where the marshes wont grow. This residences will have a easy connection with the proposed public recreational areas. The cultural and scientific complex is placed next to the residences and in front of the reovered arshes in order to get an interaction between the users and the enviroment. Also, it is thought as a visual proposal, so people living in the higher areas get an amazing view of their natural surrounding.

Project The project form comes from the idea of getting as more angles of view as possible for every person. It is intended to be a metropolitan project without loosing the neighborhood scale. It also looks forward to get quality public spaces for the society in complement with the cultural and scientific activities proposed. There are 3 view ranges: - The residents from the highest zones get a view of the urban garden proposed in the project roofs, with season flowers. - The project users get a privileged view to the marshes. - People passing by the lower part, next to Huaylas Avenue, get a view of the project settled to the terrain slope, with the existing residences behind.

URBAN BLOCK INTERVENTION IN SURQUILLO Projects IX - August-December 2015 General Urban Proposal The urban project consist on the intervention and regeneration of a set of blocks located in the district of Surquillo, in the city of Lima. The main idea is to create a network of urban footpaths between the blocks with recreational, cultural and commercial activities placed into the them. Due to the lack of green spaces, a large park is proposed in front of Av. Republica de Panamá, where the blocks with less architectural value are located. Thereby, a friendly enviroment is created for the residents and people passing by.

RESER
Architectural Proposal For the next stage it was chosen one of the intervened blocks in order to develop an architectural proposal. The idea is to keep the identity of the neighborhood and create a friendly and enjoyable enviroment to live and visit. The project seeks to bring the natural enviroment from the proposed park in front of the block to the inside of it through a monumental access that allows the viewing and permeability.
Variety of viewing angles Public spaces inside the block
The hotel tower has an sculptoric form to create an urban landmark for the city and improve tourism on the zone. It is proposed a set of balconies in order to get a dynamic use of the space, as well as different viewing angles thanks to its panoramic shape in the side ends.
Pedestrian passages that connect the street and the block interior.
Use of terraces to place common and social areas for residents.
Relocate existing craft workshops facing to the street
Volumetrically, it is intended to have three clear areas: Upper Zone, Surrounding Ring and the Plinth. This concept of RING comes from the idea of creating a unifying element on all of the intervened blocks located in front of the park.
One side of the project is planned to be terraced to match with the height of existing buildings and keep the neighborhood scale. The number of stories increse as it gets closer to the park. Terraces with social areas like barbecue areas, swimming pool, gym, multiple use rooms, etc. for residents appear as a result of the design.

Residential buildings get a facade language that consists in a set of balconies that appear as breaks for the homogeniety caused by the lenght of the project. These create friendly spaces for a better quality of life within departments.
It is proposed sliding wooden jalousie on the apartment’s principal spaces to control air, light and privacy.

Opacity, Translucency and Reflectivity to Light Universidad PolitĂŠcnica de Madrid Printed Representation of Architecture
Different and fascinating forms and colors created when using and combining the white, red, green and yellow light. The options in light treatment are infinite and need to be always considered when designing. 28
This experiment consist in a composition of transluscent planes placed vertically together with some opaque and reflective ones. The idea is to know the different possibilities of illumination, shading and reflectivity that can be generated with different angles of light, receiving materials and colors of light.
