Female body shapes

• The key to dressing a pear body shape is to

add volume and emphasize your upper body. As you carry your most weight on the lower body you need to balance it out setting the illusion of an hourglass figure. By de emphasizing your lower body you can get this result.

• Things to wear: • Tops with fitted waists. • Off the shoulder, boat-neck tops, wide V or U necks.

• Structured shoulders, princess or flutter sleeves.

• Embellishments around the bust and shoulders.

• Bright colours and bold patterns

• Apple shaped ladies usually have

a large bust, therefore to emphasize it you can wear v neck tops. Also usually you are quite sort if apple shaped, dressing in a different coloured top to bottoms ‘cuts’ your body in half and emphasizes your shortness, to avoid this, wear one colour maybe in different shades to make you look longer. You can also wear jeans or trousers with back pockets to make your bottom look larger.

• Considered the ‘perfect’ body type. Only 8.4%

actually have this body type. You can wear literally any type of skirt with this figure but the pencil skirt is best for you, this will cling to your body shape and emphasize your curves. Dresses are a good choice aswell as one piece outfits like jumpsuits and playsuits, fitted ones are ideal.

• Straight legged jeans that skim past your thighs and cropped ankle

• Darker shades of bootcut jeans will balance your curves

• Tailored and fitted jackets will cling to your waist and really emphasize your body beautifully

• If you are a shorter hourglass you can opt to

wear ¾ length skirts with a slit down to make yourself look taller.

• Rectangle body shapes have a small bust

and bottom, and usually wear the same size top as bottom. Also little waist definition. You should wear clothes that create definition and volume like padding, frills and ruffles. For your smaller bust you can wear big statement necklaces for the impression of bigger boobs. • Create a defined waist with cinched clothes and think belts in desired area. • Skinny jeans and tight clothing such as leggings will show off your slim legs to balance out your figure. • Draping clothes will help skim over the more petite areas to create definition and balancing it out.

• Your body shape is really suited to classic

clothing like fitted tailored jackets and slim trousers and sweeping dresses. As you have a broader upper body, you can balance it out by drawing attention to the lower parts of your body with bold and colourful prints.

• Tulip skirts and harem pants will create volume on your lower half as long as you draw your waist in with a belt for shape.

• Your accessories should be big and bulky • Long necklaces that finish mid body will draw attention to that area than your larger upper body.

• Tops should have some sort of ruffles or detail to soften your shape, also tops that draw attention elsewhere like your cleavage rather than your broad shoulders.

What to wear???

Fitted waist tops to emphasize your upper half. Printed bold top should be paired with plain coloured pants to draw attention away from larger bottom half.

Off the shoulder tops flow really nicely and skim your body which helps balance out your body. Also they are really feminine and can show one of your petite assets off.

Jackets with shoulder pads to broaden out your top half to balance with your broader bottom half

What to wear???

This is an example of the print of the dress you should wear. The style maybe not to for an apple body but definitely the colour, it is all one colour and so doesn’t cut the body in half and sets the impression of a longer body. Jeans with back pockets set the impression of a bigger bottom as a classic apple shaped body will have a smaller/flatter bottom.

Apple body shape women usually have a larger chest area, therefore v neck tops can emphasize this and show your assets.

What to wear???

As an hourglass is considered the perfect body type, you can almost wear anything. Most things you wear should show off your body and your perfect curves. Crop tops and tight dresses and jumpsuits do this.

Tight dresses to show off your ‘perfect’ curves

Leggins are tight and cling to the body to show off the shape. If you don’t like the shape of your legs you should avoid this and opt for straight legged tailored trousers.

Crop tops are great stylish garments to show off your figure.

Maisie Mcloughlin. I have identified her body shape as a strawberry; wide shoulder with a slim waist and narrow hips. I have identified her face shape as a rectangle, her face is quite round and elongated but she also had a quite defined jawline. Her skin tone is quite pale with a slight colour to it. I will follow to style Maisie in the clothes I would choose to suit her overall shape.

Clothing suited to my client

l a u s Ca The leggings chosen really cling to my clients leg as she is really tall and has lovely shaped legs. They are half fabric and a slight mesh material, this also ties in with her education in dance college as it is a bit sporty. I have incorporated a black bralet over a baggy Calvin Klein t-shirt to bring her waist in and add a little unique, girly touch to her outfit. Her shoes are very sporty and are a bold bright colour to match her really bubbly, different and ‘out there’ so to speak personality. I have accessorised with a bright bold orange choker to tie in with her shoes and the large embellishments on her jacket. The denim jacket adds a very edgy look to her outfit and I absolutely love the design of the tigers face. Make up with this look would be very minimal, no eye make up and if any lipstick only nude (none preferable)

Clothing suited to my client

I have chosen this dress as I think it would really suit and exaggerate my clients body shape. The delicate finish on the chest/neck area really helps the larger shoulder that I identified my client to have. This is a really elegant outfit and the shoes and bag are really lady like. I have used minimal make up for the elegant look and used some false fluffy lashes also.

Fashion styling

What is fashion styling?

• A Fashion Stylist is one of the most popular emerging professions in the fashion world globally and is the job title of someone who selects the clothing and accessories for published editorial features, print or television advertising campaigns, music videos, concert performances etc.

Roles in styling • Fashion stylers can work in fashion editorial styling like magazines ans newspapers, commercial fashion styling (adverts) or personal fashion styling for a specific person. Editorial stylists get given information already a part of a magazine and use their skills to showcase this information the best and as creative and statement as possible. Job roles include photoshoots.

Commercial styling is more to a particular brand. They will style a shoot for one particular item (e.g. a handbag) and work on TV commercial advertisement. Personal stylists work one to one with clients, taking into consideration age, skin colour, body shape, age and specific requirements for clients.

Fashion knowledge As well as knowing current fashions and trends, stylists need to be aware of things like garments to flatter certain body shapes and skin colour etc.

Business sense As most fashion stylists are self employed, they would need to know how to run their own business. Even if they have staff working for them, they still need basic knowledge on how to manage their company.

Adventurous style

If a person/customer wants ba clothing, they will go down the local high street and buy garme there for a cheaper price. By us a fashion stylist, they clearly wa something unique, adventurous different and for a slightly luxurious price.

communication The fashion stylist needs to be able to communicate with their clients. They need to compromise/find a common ground with their customers from their ideas to a customers preference.

In 1999 she moved to New York, continuing to freelance for British ELLE, Conde Nast Traveller, The Sunday Telegraph, and Harvey Nichols. Born and raised in London, Penny Lovell was fascinated with everything fashion from an early age. A self-described vintage junkie, Penny had an innate creative ability to find and transform inexpensive vintage pieces to the high couture outfits she admired in magazines. Kate Young • Kate lives in Brooklyn with her husband and her 4 and 6 year old sons.

She started her career at vogue magazine as an assistant editor. She was quickly promoted into the fashion department

She originally wanted to be a fashion writer but soon realised she enjoyed working more closely with clothes than words.

She has worked with Herb Ritts and styled the first ever cover of teen vogue.

Kates work

I really like Kates casual styling, I think its unique and she really tailores each outfit to the person wearing it. This is really good as clients love personal. I am not too fussed on her night time attire and wouldn’t wear it myself but would describe it as very elegant and quite plain.

Street style 2016 I have noticed a fashion of mesh and dark colours. Also small bralets under and as a part of outfits. To the right is a cut up t-shirt which is a current trend. I have noticed girls using bleach on dark coloured clothing and cutting panels out, also using safety pins to keep some material together.

I have noticed a lot of dungarees with tshirts, shirts and jumpers underneath.

This is becoming more and more popular as it looks really stylish and also is a really simple easy outfit to put together

Primary cool hunt images

I gathered these images in college. I chose my 3 favourite and most current in trend outfits and took images for my cool hunt. I love the accessories for the first image (bag) I love how opposite to the jacket it is and the contrast it makes. The jacket is tailored and very smart whereas the bag is really casual. The second image although you cant notice, metallic coloured socks were worn. I really love the metallic look lately and think it emphasizes any outfit. Although covered with a coat the third outfit (me) is a plain white top layered with a mesh top over it. This fits in with the languid layers style on WGSN and is a current trend I like myself.
